Why can't you hold me in the street? Why can't I kiss you on the dance floor?

/ Crone is a handsome man with an acoustic guitar and a lovely little message. It’s certainly a soft-hearted pop anthem that alludes to any man (or woman) getting through and emerging on the other side of relationship problems, perhaps a bit bruised up, but alive. Don’t we all relate. The problem with the song is not the message, nor is it the lyrics (Stig Rasta (Estonia 2015) is credited as the songwriter, and he is loved by many.) The song is too reminiscent and similar to … everything, from past Eurovision entries to songs from the charts. Think Mans' "Heroes" (a pop-banger chorus with acoustic guitar verses), or Chris Martin from Coldplay. Seriously, close your eyes while listening to the studio version and you may think it’s Martin’s vocals. Then that whole ‘safe and sound’ line … it bothers me because Of Monsters And Men, Capital Cities, they used that line already. It comes off as too fabricated and too mainstream and too referential. It’s a struggle to see Crone as an authentic singer with an independent artistic mission when everything he does is a reference to something else. On the positive side, it’s an above-average production, Crone’s voice is very good, and dare I say he has some of the best national selection staging of any song from this year? There were a few stage tricks in Tallinn that I hope are brought over to the big stage. After the antics of Iceland, this is a warm song that leaves you feeling good... until you watch the antics of Portugal. And that’s a big problem for Estonia, too: they got stuffed between two very oddball entries in the running order. I wish Victor the best, because he’s doing everything right. He can really get a crowd to engage and move. But the track record for straightforward pop doesn’t hold much favor, and I fear he will fall victim to the storm after all. Prove me wrong, Europe.

It's trying hard to be a big thing with a grand chorus. But if you're looking a little closer, it's falling very flat! I still like it, but down to ...
