Why can't you hold me in the street? Why can't I kiss you on the dance floor?

/ Singer-songwriter music, as you know, has been extremely successful in recent years. Regardless of the genre or overall story or message, they came out on top. They had a sense of authenticity where some other songs didn’t, but they also had that special something for the televoting public. “Limits,” departed from expectation - an electropop club banger - and thus I understand the dislikes. Yeah, there are electronic influences, but it is an extremely low-key dream pop ballad. If “Amar pelos dois” was a swimming pool of emotions, “Limits” is an entire lake that’s as blue as her hair. Coming into the song for the first time - the very first time - was a letdown. It felt like it ended before it ever began. It’s so soft to the ear that you sometimes forget you’re listening to music, and in my first listen I felt the chorus was entirely built around the ‘millenial whoop’ (which I despise, by the way.) The idea was to pay attention to the lyrics, which talk of setting limits; you don’t have to take on the burden of the world, and the struggles within finding inner happiness. But it’s problematic because her vocal register is so high in the sky, so reliant on the falsetto, that for a native English speaker it’s already hard to understand. I can’t imagine it sounds entirely pleasant to someone who knows very little English. But this is a ‘grower’ song, not one that I particularly believe will impact Europe, because it’s just not instantly approachable. But I originally had this at 33rd before moving it up to 25th and locking my scores, and I think it could rise even higher. It’s just something else musically for the contest and her in particular that she delivers, which is cool.

*_* Originally I had Hatari as my favorite but this song, while not really a fan of, grew on me so much that it was from the middle of my ranking to my overall winner.... Hopefully it does well but i don't think so and qualifies as a shock as Anja did in 2017 (my favorite then was Anja anyway).....
