I reside in the United States, and I have ties to Japan and South Korea. And this idea would be horrible, because whenever non-EBU countries broadcast Eurovision (I'm just going to use 2000 when NHK broadcasted the finals). With this, it was terrible. NHK had no actual commentators, and this was even with a time delay. Also, not many people actually cared. The same can be said for the majority of other non-EBU nations. I think this would be a mess, and with the confirmed ABU Song Contest in 2020 and with the existence of the ABU Song Festivals for both Radio and TV (where Tunisia debuted in 2016 and Zambia in 2017 and Benin in 2018), AfriMusic Song Contest in Africa and the Caribbean Song Festival in the Caribbean. As such, it would be a hopeless mess if the EBU went with something like that. It would be a mess, and would be totally unnecessary. If people wanted other nations to be represented at Eurovision, delegate that to the microstates. well, just invite countries that are associate EBU members, and it will be fine.

Most associate broadcasters don’t give a damn if the contest

Other than geography, non-European countries should earn their entitlement towards being allowed to participate in Eurovision, and that depends on the overall enthusiasm of the country and if a substantial fanbase develops. Case in point: Australia. They're broadcasted ESC regularly since the 1980's (so around 30 years!) and it's only four years since they got invited to participate. Three decades was plenty enough time for Australia to have its own substantial fanbase, a fanbase big enough for a viable televote from the country. What of USA with its dismal 60,000+ views in the 2018 live broadcast? Heck, most of Iceland's 300,000+ people watches the show. And with each world region having their own unique song contests already, it's an even bigger detraction to join.
TL;DR - You need big enough viewership from each country for a substantial televote. We don't want to be treated like San Marino in which we arbitrarily consolidate votes from several countries.

I've made a separate thread in the "Lounge" section about my ideal concept for the contest.
