UNITED STATES OF SONG 2020 Semifinals Running Order
Hello everyone. Yesterday evening, the running order for the semifinals was determined. States were written onto notes and mixed around in a jar; I picked them out one at a time and that's what determines the order below. I recorded these on video but will only upload them if I need to (reason being the videos are dreadfully boring.)
Last year, Semifinal 1 opened with Washington state, and closed with Hawaii. Kentucky led the way in Semifinal 2, and closed with Oregon.
This is the last "announcement" of sorts before the results of the CA/NY/TX semifinals come out, aside from other state song announcements. You can keep up with those in the other thread.
Without further ado, here's this year's semifinals running order:
Semifinal 1:
1. Colorado 2. Connecticut 3. Tennessee 4. Washington 5. Nevada 6. Oklahoma 7. New York 8. Oregon 9. Iowa 10. New Hampshire 11. Wyoming 12. Maryland 13. Montana 14. Kentucky 15. Louisiana 16. South Dakota 17. Idaho 18. Ohio 19. New Jersey 20. Indiana 21. Utah 22. Arizona 23. Vermont 24. Florida 25. North Carolina
Semifinal 2:
1. South Carolina 2. Maine 3. Hawaii 4. Alabama 5. California 6. Illinois 7. Rhode Island 8. Alaska 9. New Mexico 10. Minnesota 11. Virginia 12. Mississippi 13. Texas 14. Kansas 15. Georgia 16. Delaware 17. Pennsylvania 18. Wisconsin 19. Michigan 20. Massachusetts 21. Nebraska 22. Arkansas 23. North Dakota 24. U.S. Territory (TBD) 25. West Virginia
----
In addition, I've never done this before but I thought it would be a good idea to follow ESC's format and determine the running order placement for Missouri in the Final Round now instead of later. I did use random.org for this one, and Missouri's home entry will be in slot 24.
What do you think? Which states are slated for a good result? Which ones are ultimately doomed? Let us know in the comments below.
Voting in the State Selections (California, New York, and Texas) remains open, but not much longer. You have until March 7th! To vote, please go to unitedstatesofsong.com, click Vote, and listen to the playlists/recap videos. Then send me a PM with your Top 6 of any of the three selections, or email your vote to fiftystatesofsong AT gmail DOT com.

UNITED STATES OF SONG 2020 General Status Update
Yo, everyone! I want to apologize for the complete silence over these last 40 days. The voting form for the three state song selections had remained open until about April 10 - a good month after it was supposed to close.
There is no real excuse. "Current world events" are the primary reason. For a good, long time, it was difficult to deal with. It's still a day-to-day thing with me. I'm very sorry.
Because of this, the timeline for this year's contest has to be extended - which I hate doing because this contest is so lengthy already. But it's the best decision from a management point of view, as it gives me more time to plan out how to gather interest/voters, and to get things up to date again.
The edition will NOT be canceled; I'm very proud to bring you this contest for a 5th year running. IF an edition were ever to be canceled, it would be because the whole contest is being discontinued.
I will use the remainder of this month to catch up. This weekend I want to announce (finally) the winners of the three state semifinals; if for whatever reason you didn't have a chance to vote in that, you can still send me your votes to me in a PM (or fiftystatesofsong AT gmail DOT com). As long as I get them by Sunday, April 19, I'll still count them.
Then I will update the Calendar and slowly get back to announcing the chosen entries, in bigger groups than just 4 at a time, so that we can begin Semifinal 1 sometime in May.
This is the current outlook, but everything is subject to change.
Again, I want to sincerely apologize and hope that we can come together (online) to celebrate the best of American music. I hope you all will continue to take interest and participate in this contest going forward!
-Greg

It's fine. A lot of things have happened, so this was expected. Take all the time you need to make sure this year's contest is going to be bangin'.
Maybe you can shock me by posting my one and only suggestion as one of the official entries.

UNITED STATES OF SONG 2020 Final Round Running Order Hello again! First off: I've published the full results of the state song selections, so now you can see the details of the votes. It's been five months but I had to wait until at least the semifinals had passed; hopefully it was worth waiting for? songcontests.fandom.com/wiki/United_States_of_Song_2020#State_Song_Selections
A little over a day ago, the results of the semifinals were published. Did you know that only 8 of the 24 songs that qualified come from states that weren't in the 2019 Final? Additionally, Washington and Arizona ended their perfect qualification streaks. More on this later.
Now that it is known which 25 songs will compete in the Final Round, we can determine the official running order!
It has been known for months that Missouri is song 24. The allotment of the other 24 songs was determined randomly (via random.org - classy). If we get three rock songs in a row, blame the Internet's ruler of randomness.
Here's this year's final round running order:
Final Round:
1. Minnesota 2. Alabama 3. Montana 4. Kentucky 5. Virginia 6. Illinois 7. North Carolina 8. South Dakota 9. Colorado 10. Texas 11. Nevada 12. South Carolina 13. Pennsylvania 14. New York 15. Tennessee 16. Florida 17. New Hampshire 18. Alaska 19. Massachusetts 20. Oregon 21. Wisconsin 22. Georgia 23. California 24. Missouri 25. Indiana
We start with Minnesota's rap-pop song, and finish off with the electro-synth instrumental from Indiana. What do you think? Which states are slated for a good result? Which ones are doomed? Let us know in the comments below.
A YouTube and Spotify playlist with all 25 songs in order will be made available this weekend. Normally I include a playlist of live performances of as many of the Final Round songs that I can find - sometimes a song really "comes alive" when it's performed live, just like Eurovision - but it might be really hard to find for some of them.
Voting will begin when the recap of the Final Round goes live. I hope to have this done soon; additional prep is needed for the public votes. You'll get a notification here, like always, when voting opens; from then on, you'll have about four weeks to vote. Easy-peasy.
See you soon!

UNITED STATES OF SONG 2020 Final Results Update
Hi! Just wanted to give you an update on the Final Results.
My goal was to have the video and the results out by the 13th, but obviously this didn't happen. There was some badly out-of-focus video footage that I had to reshoot, and a couple errors on the scoreboard - one I can't be bothered to fix (an expert eye may spot it on the TV screen before the Jury vote starts).
Yes, a TV screen scoreboard. #hype
But everything has been filmed, scores are added up, 99% of things are designed, and I'm in the final processes of building the video. Things are looking great.
So I'm happy to announce the results video will be 100% guaranteed posted on September 19th! Get some snacks ready, and prepare for the wonderful show!
Thanks, -Greg
