Michigan Applies With the announcement of the Own Song Of The Year 2020 Contest on the horizon, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters announced that they will be putting our hands into the fire of the competition.
Founded in 1701, Detroit (nicknamed the Motor City & Motown) is the largest and most-populous city in the U.S. state of Michigan, the largest U.S. city on the United States–Canada border, and the seat of Wayne County. The municipality of Detroit had a 2019 estimated population of 670,031, making it the 24th-most populous city in the United States. The metropolitan area, known as Metro Detroit, is home to 4.3 million people, making it the second-largest in the Midwest after the Chicago metropolitan area, and 14th-largest in the United States. Regarded as a major cultural center, Detroit is known for its contributions to music and as a repository for art, architecture and design. Detroit's diverse culture has had both local and international influence, particularly in music, with the city giving rise to the genres of Motown and techno, and playing an important role in the development of jazz, hip-hop, rock, and punk music. The rapid growth of Detroit in its boom years resulted in a globally unique stock of architectural monuments and historic places. Since the 2000s conservation efforts have managed to save many architectural pieces and achieved several large-scale revitalizations, including the restoration of several historic theatres and entertainment venues, high-rise renovations, new sports stadiums, and a riverfront revitalization project. More recently, the population of Downtown Detroit, Midtown Detroit, and various other neighborhoods has increased. An increasingly popular tourist destination, Detroit receives 19 million visitors per year. In 2015, Detroit was named a "City of Design" by UNESCO, the first U.S. city to receive that designation.
The Fox Theatre is a performing arts center located at 2211 Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, near the Grand Circus Park Historic District. Opened in 1928 as a flagship movie palace in the Fox Theatres chain, it was, at over 5,000 seats, the largest theater in the city. Designed by theater architect C. Howard Crane, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989 for its architecture. The area surrounding the Fox is nicknamed Foxtown. The city's major performance centers and theatres emanate from the Fox Theatre and Grand Circus Park Historic District and continue along Woodward Avenue toward the Fisher Theatre in the city's New Center. The area of Foxtown is a part of the larger area known as the District Detroit, created as a way to help revitalise the entertainment industry in the city, housing numerous theatres, sports venues, bars, hotels, recording studios, and more. The Fox has 5,048 seats (5,174 seats if removable seats placed in the raised orchestra pit are included). It is the largest surviving movie palace of the 1920s and the largest of the original Fox Theatres.
Two iconic hosts would be here to welcome you all to the Motor City. Sufjan Stevens is an American Singer/Songwriter who was born in Detroit, but raised primarily in Petoskey, in the northwestern part of the lower peninsula. Sufjan has released a number of legendary works, such as the albums Michigan, Illinois, & Carrie and Lowell. He represented the Wolverine state in the first edition of the Own USAVision Song Contest alongside his step-father, Lowell Brahms, in Los Angeles, ultimately finishing 17th in the semi-final, only netting a paltry 31 points. Aubry is a dog born in Toronto, but adopted by a forumer and living in Metropolitan Detroit. She has gained a cult following on the forum's discord with her adorable looks and regal demeanor i mean can you blame her lol The pair hope that you will decide to join them in Detroit.
Here is a video to showcase what all we will deliver to you all in Detroit. If you don't care about the flyover, please feel free to skip to 3:09 to check out the video itself but i hope you watch it anyways kate. The peninsula's will be coloured specially depending on the nation who's songs are being played. I just couldn't be assed to make them tonight lmao
Once again, on behalf of Aubry, Sufjan, and myself, we hope that you choose to fly to Detroit for the Own Song of the Year Contest 2020
