This is a thread about the SaS-news related to Massachusetts, the host state of the previous edition! TV broadcaster/Radio station: WXPL (TV/Radio broadcaster located in Fitchburg)
Musical format: College radioArtist: They Might Be GiantsThe TV-Radio Broadcaster, WXPL, has now officially confirmed their announcement of their second artist. Making it the sixteenth official SaS #2-representant!
The submission has been brought out by the internal tastes from the TV-Radio Broadcaster's HoD and the SaS-creator! By the time, when they were hosting the contest from last edition, Kelly Sweet scored a decent placing of a 12th place with 51 points with her electropop-track "Ashes of My Paradise"! The state will keep showing different types of genres, which now will be given out for experimental music! It seems promising to head out for a range of memorable entries, which all of them puts out a spot for a different genre! There's been all sorts of artists who were all born ready to participate, since the College Radio-format goes through lots of genres and for our primary tastes. Determining the fact of being quite the unique performer, we were rooting for They Might Be Giants! The two brothers (Both named John, but then Linnell & Flansburgh) have grown up in Lincoln, Massachusetts together, while they're originating from Brooklyn, New York! Together as the band, They Might Be Giants, have sold 4 million records and won 2 Grammy Awards for their musical career of being an experimental, indie and alternative rock group. Other than that, their music also points over Children's Music, when some of their studio albums have been recorded for this unusual genre. But this keeps that ambition willingly throughout our tastes and to accept that artist as the next Massachusettsian representer for this edition!
The more unique it gets, the better feeling it can allow the perimeter of that atmosphere this contest can withstand! Read more down below and click on the specific link if you want. ★ Biography ★ Discography ★ Photos ★Song: "Birdhouse In Your Soul"Written by themselves, while produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley.
The song is featured as the lead single from their third studio album, Flood. It reached #3 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart and #6 on the UK Singles Chart, and remains their highest-charting single in both countries. The song returned to the UK Singles Chart in 2010, after its use in a television advert for Clarks Shoes, peaking at #70.
The song tells the story, in very abstract terms, of a nightlight with the appearance of a blue canary, from the point of view of the nightlight itself. The summation of its opening statements I'm your only friend; I'm not your only friend, but I'm a little glowing friend, but really I'm not actually your friend; but I am reveals that while it is not really a friend in the traditional sense of the word, its job as a nocturnal protector of its owner (the listener) makes it their only friend while they sleep. It tells the listener to make a birdhouse (being a safe place for something small and vulnerable) for the light it creates in their mind and soul.
The nightlight then goes on to proclaim its identity: My name is 'blue canary;' one note, spelled 'L-I-T-E' , and that it will always serve its intended purpose to the listener and their room. It references a picture in the room, probably a lighthouse "There's a picture opposite me of my primitive ancestry, which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck-free and states that while it respects the job a lighthouse does, but would cause shipwrecks if it tried to serve as a lighthouse itself Though I respect that a lot, I'd be fired if that were my job, after killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts . It is simply a "guardian angel" for its friend and owner.
As the song fades, the line While you're at it, keep the night-lite on inside the birdhouse in your soul echoes the chorus, essentially telling the listener to keep all the good things that provide light in their soul protected.
The lyric My story's infinite / Like the Longines Symphonette / It doesn't rest is a reference to the Longines Symphonette Society, which back in the 1960s and 1970s, released numerous albums consisting of recordings of various classical and classic pieces of music, as well as to the Longines Symphonette, a watch showcased at the 1964 New York World's Fair. In fact, Linnell attended the fair as a child, which is featured in some of their other songs. It may also be a reference to the Longines Symphonette clock/ radio/ lamp of the 1960s and 1970s, which would be near the canary nightlight and, being mains powered, would not rest.★ Lyrics ★I'm your only friend I'm not your only friend But I'm a little glowing friend But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you? Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul I have a secret to tell from my electrical well It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells So the room must listen to me filibuster vigilantly My name is Blue Canary one note spelled L-I-T-E My story's infinite like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you? Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul I'm your only friend I'm not your only friend But I'm a little glowing friend But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am There's a picture opposite me of my primitive ancestry Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free Though I respect that a lot I'd be fired if that were my job After killing Jason off and countless screaming 'Argonauts' Bluebird of friendliness like guardian angels its always near Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you? Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul While you're at it Keep the nightlight on inside The birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (And while you're at it) Who watches over you? (Keep the nightlight on inside the) (Birdhouse in your soul) Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (And while you're at it) Who watches over you? ◘◘◘◘◘ ◘◘◘◘◘ Today we have the very last Song Selection to be hosted for this edition. And that will be managed by Massachusetts's alternative act, They Might Be Giants.
They Might Be Giants will then be the seventeenth SaS-entrant to be progressing a Song Selection.
Currently they will be waiting for your votes to come, when they have revealed their songs just now!
One of the selected participating songs was suggested by one of our SaS-supporters!
You can help them finding out which of their participating songs deserves the best and to be the final representing entry for them and for the US state of Massachusetts
ENTRY NO. 1
"BIRDHOUSE IN YOUR SOUL"
Written by themselves, while produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley.

ENTRY NO. 2
"ISTANBUL (NOT CONSTANTINOPLE)"
The song was highly suggested.
It's a production by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley as a cover version from the 1953 swing-style song originally recorded by the Canadian group, The Four Lads.
They Might Be Giants's version is at a faster tempo than the original and contains a distinct klezmer influence, including a violin introduction and some accordion and electric guitar parts not present in the original version.
The song was released as the second single from Flood, managed to hit the charts at best in the UK by peaking #61 back in 1990.
If you want to see Entry no. 2 win, please rate it among the higher points than the other 2 songs
ENTRY NO. 3
"YOU'RE ON FIRE"
"You're On Fire" is produced by themselves and Pat Dillett and written by John Linnell himself
It's their latest released single and was released on February 21, 2013 as an advance track from their album, Nanobots.
The song has been fairly well received in critical reviews of Nanobots. Heather Phares, in her review of the album for Allmusic, favorably described the song as "literal-minded" and "pure comedy". A Paste review of the album written by Alex Skidmore praises the song for "easily grabbing the attention of the listener", as the album's lead track. Eric Limer of Gizmodo speculates that the track makes an effective single-song representation of the band's music. In his justification, Limer made note of the "call-and-response" guitar parts in stereo and "predictably absurd" lyrics. The music video for the song was also lauded as innovative and playful by Hellhound Music and MTV's Buzzworthy Blog.
If you want to see Entry no. 3 win, please rate it among the higher points than the other 2 songs
