In this thread, we can discuss the qualifying process for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in  Russia!

Here is some information regarding each continental confederation's plans for the qualifying process.

AFC (Asia):
The World Cup qualifying for Asia will be merged with the qualifying for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Round 2 is currently being played.

CAF (Africa):
A new system has been created for Africa's qualification processes. The first matches were played during October 2015. The next round will follow in November.

CONCACAF (North America, Central America & the Caribbean):
The set-up has been changed here too. The first 3 rounds were played in March, June and September 2015. Matches resume in November for the 4th round.

CONMEBOL (South America):
The South American qualification system will not change. The matches began in October and will continue for 2 years.

OFC (Oceania):
The first round has been completed. The next round (also the OFC Nations Cup) begins next May

UEFA (Europe):
The format will not change. There will be 7 groups of 6 and 2 groups of 5. The qualifying round for Europe will not begin until after UEFA Euro 2016 finishes. Therefore, the first matches will not happen until September 2016.

The AFC (Asia) Round 1 matches have been drawn!

Legs will be played on 12 and 17 March 2015

Only the 12 lowest-ranked teams in Asia are in this round.
The six winners will advance the second round where the other 34 Asian teams are waiting
