With regards to the banned song list, I've always liked it. I had to put it in place because when I used to join many other contests I got fed up with people sending the same old songs again and again on top of other people constantly voting for them due to familiarity. Saying that, it's not easy to keep on top of it and I also learned it's not always the songs themselves it's the people who kept sending the same songs. I think for the users who consistently send them then they should be banned or be warned imho (harsh I know). If the list is to be set in place maybe other players, who join more contests, can suggest to the manager some recent songs that are being overused and he'll decide whether they're to be banned or not. If it's not worth it then I can't reject to banning it altogether whatever is easiest. I also think some editions would be nice to have certain rules like 'In this edition you can't send any National Final songs but you can in the next' sort of thing just to avoid a repeating pattern maybe. Was it "the same old story, every day?" ( FSC #44 reference oooh) Anyway, you're probably right in that it's more a thing that players do, but I'm not sure banning is the right solution to the problem. It seems like a jury is the most popular solution, since a list is definitely hard, and I have a bit of an issue keeping things updated... As for the certain rules idea, I like it! The only thing is that you can run out of rules fast. I tried doing that in the contest I run off the forums and we ran out of ideas pretty fast. But maybe it'd work here? Do something special like every fifth edition or something? That's something to discuss.

I'm agains the thing of banning """overused""" songs... what sense would it make to make a group of people who only mind the "overusedness" thing while 9/10 times the songs in this contest are pretty unique? I mean if a song is really used often in other contests then mostly it doesn't really get appreciated in here (for example "Hafdal Ahlam" did pretty bad in this contest). I think people will think more of sending songs which have been in other contests as well so they can give work to the jury (or maybe other reasons?). Introducing a rule like this again would be asking for new songs to check out more often, to deny them and therefore people have to send another song and this makes the running time of an edition taking a longer time then needed. I think it would be discriminating songs for being sent to other contests as well. I want to vote for the songs I like, not the songs which I have seen the less in other contests.

nickThe concept of banning certain people does sound harsh but I wouldn't completely rule out. Guess this was an issue I had earlier when certain people would send the same songs (even some making fake accounts to send the same songs and sad enough to vote for themselves). But I guess it's not so blatant now because some of those users aren't there anymore and I like the sound of a jury taking place!! That could work. As for coming with new ideas, would be difficult to make rules in every edition. Once in every 5 or 10 editions would be great!! I like that.

With regards to the songs listed in the 'banned' songs list, it's like 50 odd songs and there are tens of thousands more songs out there, even more undiscovered!!. It's not often that songs are added on there either and the odd 'overused' song does occasionally get accepted. I think people can come up with other stuff than the same odd 50 on the list. On top of the fact the songs don't even have to be unique at all just as long as some people aren't taking the mickey and sending the same stuff for a cheap win. .

When I was hosting the contest, I stopped adding songs to the banned list on purpose. As Tom said, some overused songs like Nicole Saba's, not only failed to win, they even did badly. The players here are very sensitive about overused songs. So there is no point of banning songs imo. If cheap victories start again, banning songs rule can be active again. One mre thing I can say is hearing overused songs is not that bad unless they get cheap victories every time. If I like that song alot, I can vote for it without thinking about its overuseness.

This has been on my mind for a while: how do I pick a country as host? Right now, I make my own list of two countries and pick second, and the first person that sends in their reservations is, well, first. Would you guys prefer that I just pick before everyone and make a public announcement about what country I want or do you want me to wait longer, like, after 10 players, f.e.? Sometimes I totally forget to reserve a country and end up down at 10th anyway, tbh . Or is the way it is now fine?

IDK if any of you saw, but a few people on YT commented that they wanted to take part. I referred them here, but what would you think about having a Rest of the World jury? If I recall correctly, we've had one before, but I thought I'd ask first.
