France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016
For 2016, France is selecting its entry internally.
Besides the EBU rules, France 2 has also added two other rules :
- The entry has to be 80% French
- The singer has to be under 50 years old/li]
France's key people :
Nathalie André, director of entertainment in France 2, the French broadcaster
Edoardo Grassi, head of delegation of France in the Eurovision Song Contest
So is France going to end in the bottom 5 another year? I don't think so!
First, we have a brand new head of delegation! Look at him! He is young, he is happy, and if you look at his Twitter page he's a real fan of Eurovision!
Second, Anthalie André, who had the great idea to send that world war 1 song, said in an interview that :
(quotes in French)
Nathalie André - "Coming to Vienna, I discovered the event. I landed in an enormous show. As big as le Festival de Cannes. And we absolutely don't realise it in France. It's a fest in the whole host city. Now I know, I saw. And I come back with a huge pleasure."
You notice that we are far away from her threat to withdraw from the competition last June!
Nathalie André - "We received 280 songs. It's funny because many schools mobilised. We started to work on next edition last august, with the new head of delegation Edoardo Grasso. We hope we're finding the song which fits to our times. Edoardo works 24/7 on this project and visits in different countries to represent us. It's a new breath. They don't realise how much time it takes. Despite the tragic events, we decided to keep on in this positive step we took at this time. It has already been all about kleenex last year, now we try something different."
Until now we know that :
- France should send a happy song
- Out of the 280 songs, Nathalie André and Edoardo Grassi have a crush on 4 songs
- We should know the French entrant this month
- For the first time France will broadcast both semi-finals. Last year, there was only the one in which we voted.
Stay tuned!
