(First of all, thank God that we got rid of the horrible system from 2013-2015. The Netherlands would have gotten 7p, although neither the jury nor the public placed the Netherlands very high, lol)
Second of all, the "new" system is essentially the same thing as the system from 2009-2012. Our top 10 is exactly the same. Congrats SVT for introducing two new systems (in 2013 and the next one in 2016) that brought us exactly where we already were in 2009!
The only advantage is that now more countries get points (which doesn't change anything about the top places, it only affects the lower places, but okay... For instance, the only country that got noticeably more points in this contest is the
Czech Republic, but I don't think they were a fan of the new system either, getting publically embarrassed for those 0 points in the televote).
But the disadvantages are:
1) You messed up so much and confused people, so that the regular viewers don't understand it anymore
2) We can't see which song each country actually liked the most (e.g.
Germany actually gave most of its points to
Frans, but in the show we randomly see the
going to
Israel out of nowhere)
3) We don't see happy faces during the televote results. All we see are disappointed people who are sad for being 7th in the televote, lmao.
4) It only got exciting in the last 4 minutes, at the expense of making the first 40 minutes random, confusing and unexciting (considering that the 8p and 10p are not announced anymore, which played a huge role in creating suspense!)
5) It was unnecessary to make the last 4 minutes exciting, as the voting precedure was always known as the most exciting part
already (in fact, the voting procedure always had the highest viewing figures anyway!).
6) All those records (like Rybak's 387p or Loreen's 372p) are now completely redundant and will be beaten every time
7) We could have heard maaany 8p and 10p going to e.g.
Bulgaria, we could have seen many joyful faces and could have heard the audience going crazy many times, but in the current system we didn't hear Poli's country a single time and then suddenly she's 4th place overall. Totally invisible for the viewer. A good entry deserves to be called out a lot. They took away so much fun
8) The jury voting lasted way longer than the televote, which makes it seem more important and distorts the result experience for the viewer
9) In the end, the excitement depends on the quality of the entries. Loreen was an obvious winner, so obviously there was no excitement. But this year we didn't have an obvious winner. In fact,
Ukraine and
Australia were only 23 points apart - and keep in mind that there were twice as many points this year! So with the system from 2009-2012, there would maybe be only 10 points difference, which means it would have been super-exciting with the old system as well!
I really hope they won't continue with the 2016 system forever =/ Result-wise it's the same as 2009-2012, so the distribution of the points is perfectly okay with me, I'm only criticizing the announcement system.
