 From my Tumblr:We’ve known about Eugent’s song for almost four months! Since then, the song has undergone a couple revamps - as has become common for Albania. After all, the original “Mall” (English for “Yearning”) was more than four minutes long, so it had to be edited down. I’ve been lukewarm, at best, with the last two year’s performances. I really thought Lindita had a better chance than “and that’s why I love youuuuuu, oh oh!”, but something about the staging and her dress was off-putting, and that long note that should’ve broken contest records didn’t do her a damned thing because the contest organizers put a bunch of slow ballads together at the first half of the semifinal. But this year, for the first time in a while, I really like Albania’s song. It could be classified as a ballad, but with a power rock vocalist in Eugent Bushpepa, whose vocal range is monumental. I mean it, guys: a recent performance on The Voice Kids Albania left me questioning how anyone could be looking past Eugent in this contest. At the end, his voice soars - dare I say he’s the most vocally talented male singer in 2018. But I’ve heard and seen many people put down Mall - and even more so after its revamp. Is it because this song doesn’t sound like 2018? That’s a dumb excuse; a good song is a good song. And I don’t think it’s lost much after the revamp; the verses were shortened… and that’s it, really. Is it because people don't understand the lyrics? Possibly the greatest thing that Albania has decided to do in 2018 is to NOT translate the performance into English. Not only does that keep attention on Eugent’s vocals, but it avoids having to put time and effort into something that hasn’t been beneficial for them. Their best result in ESC history was a native language song, so why not? (The lyrics, by the way, speak to the yearning of love - consider a newly-formed couple who are at that “first time they lay eyes on each other” moment, and the feelings that surround that moment.) No, I have a hard time seeing what people dislike about it. Despite my , which is mostly due to the fact that it’s not my style of music, I’d rather be enjoying this in the Final than the musically safe Azerbaijan or the low-tempered Lithuania entries. Albania has not made the Final since 2015. They have to fight a pretty steep uphill battle by being placed into Semifinal 1 - every time I look at the list of songs and realize that at least nine of them can’t proceed, my heart is slaughtered. But apart from the rest of the streamline pop songs in this year’s contest, this one steps a bit away from the rest, and I can see a lot of people falling in love with it for that reason alone. Just don’t bring the part of that Voice performance with the neon arms groping you, Eugent. |

Omg, what is this masterpiece!?  I put off listening to this because I thought Albania would translate to English again. This is so good. Everything about it screams power and passion  |

 when it won the NF I was so upset. BUT the revamp turned the song so amazing!! I love the fact it's in albanian |
