Does Löw really hates using real wingers? I mean, why would you put 3 games in a row a central midfielder or center forward on wing, although they belong in center? Goretzka isn't the slowest player, but he's NOT a winger! I don't get it - he puts Muller, Ozil and Goretzka on wing, while plays Draxler (winger) in CAM position, which isn't the position he belongs and that position doesn't require speed. Those players who usually make great impact in game this tournament haven't really shown anything because Löw puts them in wrong positions... that's why Germany struggles in this tournament. In last game Reus was very dangerous, because he was playing in the position where he belongs and where he's dangerous for opposition. C'mon Löw - start using the players in their priority positions! Without fast wingers you will not win the cup again! Löw usually plays without wingers since his tactics sees the wing defenders so high that they essentially replace wingers. The combination Kimmich-Müller worked for Bayern too for example. Müller is the strongest when he plays on the wing since it's easier for him to "sneak away" there instead to find his space from a central position (it's why he didn't work as central attacker in 2016), while I see Draxler more in the center actually, he's a good dribbler but lacks the pace without ball and his crossing is not on the level needed. Then again also Draxler is better on the wings where has more space. In general there was a lack of real wingers in the squad, only Reus and Brandt were among them, which was well Illustrated by the fact that Werner needed to play as winger on the second half against Sweden and South Korea, but normally this wouldn't be a problem. Also 0 points here btw, would be interesting to know if someone was so brave to actually predict a win for SK.

Also 0 points here btw, would be interesting to know if someone was so brave to actually predict a win for SK. It's not like he doesn't ever play wingers - a proof is Confed cup 2017, when Germany had 4 real wingers (Younes, Draxler, Sane (although he got injured), Brandt) in squad and he used them enough. When playing for Germany Draxler has proved his worth as a winger, but here he was used only as CAM. I know that he's not the fastest, but on wing he feels and looks a lot better. Fullbacks are obviously very needed on attack, but without wingers it doesn't work very well. For example, look at Real Madrid - they have everything - good wingers (Ronaldo, Bale, Vazquez, also Assensio) who are supported by good fullbacks (Marcelo, Carvajal, Hernandez, Hakimi). They've proved how to use them right - the reason why they are the best team. Obviously midfield and defense is also important for them, but the main game-changers are players who play on wings... As for Muller - I don't see him as winger, because he's neither fast or a good dribbler. For Bayern in Bundsliga it maybe works, but on higher level it doesn't. I still can't understand, why he didn't take Sane for this tournament, knowing that he was in very good form all season. P.S. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Salah, Sadio Mane, Hazard, Sane, H. Lozano, Alexis Sanchez, Bale, Coutinho, Robben, Reus, Ribery, Mahrez, Draxler, H.M. Son, Di Maria etc. You can see where I'm going with this list. All these players have proved their worth as wingers, but when played in different positions they don't seem to impress. Except for Ronaldo, who's a different story...

Sane wasn't nominated because although he's been good for ManCity, he never managed to show his class in the national jersey. He showed poor decisions, barely won dribblings. Might've been a problem tactics-wise, but his non-nomination was reasonable there. Müller is a special case - he's not a winger, but usually plays the best when he's on the right wing. That also worked before already, in 2013 when Bayern won the CL he played the same role usually (just in the final not), so he can do technically on a really high level too, sadly he didn't show this level for 2 years now. And of course wingers are important, and I agree with you on a similar topic, that one of Germany's biggest disadvantages was the lack of pace, not only for their players, but also in their game in general. Also Ronaldo is a really special case, nowadays he basically plays as striker only, most likely because he realized himself that with his decreasing physical abilities he couldn't be world class as winger anymore.
