DAY 15
Llort won through to the last eight of the 2018 World Cup in stunning style, eliminating the revelation of this tournament - Namimori. Group E winners started evening's proceedings as the better side. But Llort grew into the game as time progressed, getting a feel for possession and zipping it around the turf. The Llortish midfielder burst down the wing and was inches away from breaking the deadlock. He rifled an effort across goal that clipped the outside of Namimori’s post. Llort continued in their pursuit of the opening goal but lacked the final pass. The first-half looked to be sauntering towards a stalemate before the Llortish team raised the roof with a rocket. Namimori’s defenders momentarily stood still, allowing their opponents' winger to sneak in from the far side and bury the ball past keeper with aplomb. Things turned from bad to worse for the Namimorish team just past the hour mark when one of their players was shown a second yellow card. For the first time in a while, they came forward and looked a threat to Llort’s goal. Their shot-stopper was on hand to divert any immediate danger away with a strong punch. Heading into the final 15 minutes, Llort had their slender lead to hold onto as Namimori pressed forward. Unfortunately, they started to look bewildered as they were unable to put the game to bed. After holding out a largely flat Namimorish attack, the Llortish had their slice of history and celebrated wildly on the final whistle.
Aquia beat Drevona in a penalty shootout after their thrilling 2018 World Cup round of 16 match ended 1-1 after extra-time. Aquia dominated early proceedings and should have been in front in the first minute of the game. Rafael Abad Anselmo burst down the right flank and delivered a pinpoint cross for José Augusto Cougil who dragged his effort wide with the goal at his mercy. He had another glorious opportunity to give Aquia the lead before the break, but his shot was blocked. Drevona began the second half a lot brighter and Jefferson Cristian dos Santos had to be alert to deny the Drevonan strikers, who drilled a low effort at goal which the Aquian keeper just about managed to get down to. After the hour mark Aquia got the breakthrough they deserved. Luan Rafael Domingos’s long ball was headed half-clear by the defender and Cougil's shot from the edge of the area deflected away from the Drevonan keeper and into the corner of the net. Drevona were awarded a rather fortunate penalty three minutes from time when Luan Rafael Domingos saw a handball given against him as he tried to pull his hand away from Drevonan player's shot. Drevona made no mistake from the spot to score their first goal of the evening. The tie went to penalties and both sides scored each of their first three penalties. After Pereira stepped up to make it 4-3, the opposite team hit the post, leaving Cougil with the chance to make his team qualify to the next phase. As usual, he made no mistake.
Niolskiaj comfortably reached the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup after thrashing Pohunskia 4-1 in the last 16. Niolskiaj got their first of the evening in the second minute after winning an early free-kick outside the area, the ball was poked through to their striker who was able to convert after his initial shot was saved to make it 1-0. He got his second of the game in the 26th minute after a neat ball was played through to him once again. He showed his technical prowess to control the ball and get a shot away inside the box. Pohunskia’s best chance of the half came when a cross from their right wing found veteran forward Readdie. His header went just over the bar. The Niol striker then got his hat trick in the 39th minute, after a cross from the right was convincingly put home by the forward. In the second half, Niolskiaj pushed on for a fourth and in the 72nd minute they were lucky to score. Pohunskia were able to get a late consolation in the 85th minute when Blaha found some space in the box and was able to drive a shot under the keeper. Niolskiaj will travel to Lytte to face Llort in the quarter-final.
Scandavia booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Evergreen at Brodrik Park. With the quality of the two teams it could easily have been the tournament final and the Everish will head home feeling they have missed out on a real chance to win their first World Cup. They certainly looked like champions during a first half in which they dominated large sections of play, with some flowing attacking football that produced several good openings. The best chance of the opening 45 minutes came almost straight from kick-off when Alexander Stelzer put wide from a glorious position at the back post. Scandavia improved considerably after the break, but Evergreen still had the better chances, with Hughes parrying away a fierce volley from Arthur after 70 minutes and Trent almost grabbing the winner with ten minutes left only to see his deflected free kick curl wide. The decisive goal was a superbly executed move from a corner which was swung in by Roman Ingenberg to Páll Olfur who brought the ball down nicely and then set up Hagersted who side-footed a volley home. Evergreen piled on the pressure in the final minutes but Scandavia kept their shape well and made sure of their place in the quarter-finals.

DAY 17
Demacia’s 2018 World Cup dream ended in heartbreaking fashion with Lidonia scoring five minutes from the end to win a gruelling quarter-final game 1-0 in intense heat in Madevis. Demacia got off to a bright start and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area with less than a minute played. Vasilis Iordanou stepped up and his fierce strike was well saved by Mačala who did well to push the ball away to safety. Lidonians had their first sight of goal with five minutes played, Jonas Turek picked the ball up around 25 yards out and struck a low effort that was held by Theodoros Giannopoulos in the Demacia's goal. Lidonia had a golden chance to open the scoring with just over 28 minutes played. A quick break down the right saw the ball pulled back to Jan-Henrik Gurke, but he blazed his effort over Giannopoulos’s bar from 16 yards. As half time approached the Lidonians had yet another golden opportunity in front of goal, again coming from a low cross in the penalty area. As the second half wore on, Lidonia had their opponents camped into their own half and won a succession of five corners in a five minute spell, but couldn’t fashion a chance on goal. They had several more good chances. First, a clever short corner routine saw the ball fall to Mario Lašek in the area, he fired his effort into the side netting. Then great play down the right freed Roman Aredenko whose low cross looked destined to be poked home, before a defender intervened and put it behind for another corner. With five minutes to go, Lidonia finally broke the streak of missed opportunities. A throw in down the line was mis-judged by Sotiris Raptis allowing Hugo Madsen in behind to slot the ball past Giannopoulos into the far corner of the net to open the scoring. It was a cruel end to the Demacia’s memorable 2018 World Cup campaign and to a battling display against the current World Cup runner-ups. At the final whistle the Demacian men fell to the ground, holding their hands to their faces in despair. Lidonia is still in the game for winning their first World Cup trophy.
Fordia’s footballers qualified to the semi-finals with a dogged and disciplined display in Lytte that broke the resistance and hearts of their Levallese hosts. It was the hosts who conjured up the first chance of the match. Runne Torbar’s powerful driving run through the midfield in the 9th minute earned a free kick for his side 26 yards from goal. Jonas Soland playing in an unaccustomed left back role curled his effort through the Fordian wall, but was agonisingly denied by the woodwork. Fordia grabbed the first goal of the game two minutes later. Meklen managed to steer clear a ball into the area, but the rebound was recycled and feed into the path of Genrod. Taking a touch to set himself, he curled side-footed shot inside the far post that flew out the reach of the fully stretched Kjetil Sogge. The crowd stunned into silence. Levalle responded to conceding the early goal with a decent series of half chances. A piercing pass from Runne Torbar saw the midfielder perfectly spread the ball wide to Olav Bryne - as the defender produced a driven cross into the area that didn't quite fall for their striker. As the half-hour mark approached, a snapshot from Sandvik caused concern for Pator in the Fordian goal, as the keeper made a last-ditch save to tip the ball over the crossbar. With half-time looming, the hosts headed into the interval a goal behind, but with perhaps the more favourable share of the first half chances. Into the second half, Xyon knocked the ball down to Asøn but he was unable to direct his effort towards goal. On the 73rd minute, the Fordian striker blasted the clearest opportunity of the match when he chipped the ball over goalkeeper Sogge and above the post. Fordia kept on knocking at the door and with eight minutes to go, Genrod shot at goal but he dragged his shot too wide. They remained resolute and roared wildly as the hosts were eliminated in front of over 45,000 fans.

DAY 18
Aquia have cruised into the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Scandavia in Hulluksio’s Nytårio Park. The Latinican team were in irresistable form in this one-sided encounter and secured their biggest win of the tournament thus far. A good opening spell saw Scandavia seemingly in control but it was Aquia who took the lead after just 3 minutes against the run of play. Failure to deal with a speculative ball down the right hand channel led to a cross in the box, further indecision in the Scandavian back line allowed José Tiago Sabino Pereira a clear cut chance and the player claimed his first goal. Scandavia remained busy, moved the ball quickly and the forward line stretched the play well and a clever run and cross from Timo Hallsdorf almost gave them a leveller but Sven Tiermann's powerful header was well saved by the imposing Jefferson Cristian dos Santos. In the 42nd minute the Aquian winger Bertoldo was allowed to run 30 yards directly into the box, draw a foul from keeper Mart Hartsen and win a penalty for his side. No doubt as to the taker and no doubt on the finish as Pereira blasted home to double his tally and Aquia’s lead just before the break. They started the second half with the same vim and verve of the first. It was 3-0 seven minutes after the break. Bruno Alessandro da Silva brilliantly dummied a pass in the middle of the park for Bijos Gomes to then slip him clean through on goal. Da Silva calmly rounded the keeper and slotted it into an empty net to stretch the lead inside ten minutes. Cougil added a fourth for Aquia after some neat play down the left flank from Bertoldo and Pereira the ball fell to the striker who beat a defender before drilling home a left-footed shot. Despite some late pressure again from set pieces and a couple of long distance efforts Scandavia struggled to apply any real stress on the Aquian goal as the game finished by a four-goal margin. Aquia has qualified to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time ever. They are now looking forward to face Fordia in Frigg.
The Niol football national team have qualified to the semi-finals in their World Cup debut. A dominant 6-1 victory over Llort will give them some confidence heading into a difficult match against Lidonia in Brodrik. Nothing can ever happen twice. After thrashing Alkyria with the same goal margin the Llortish team did not replicate their success against Niolskiaj. They opened the scoring after only six minutes after swinging in a free-kick from the left and escaping the Llortish defence to beat their keeper with a downward header that he got a leg to but could not keep out. Their lead didn’t last long, though, as Llort’s side hit back just two minutes later. Niolskiaj were playing some good football in their opponents' half, helped by them frequently giving away possession which led to the third goal of the game as the Niol striker rose above everyone to head home a corner after 17 minutes. It wasn’t long until they increased their lead which had been coming following frequent pressure, as the same player thumped his effort into the top right corner from inside the box with twenty-two minutes of the half left. Following their brief attack, the Niol team scored goal number four as one of their forwards drove down the right and delivered a low ball into the box which was turned in by his teammate on the penalty spot. Coming out of the halftime break, Llort would dig out the best chance of the first 10 minutes, but a shot from near the penalty spot was squirm wide of Niolskiaj’s goal. A couple of desperate clearances from Llort could only relieve the Niol onslaught for a matter of minutes as they scored once again with their winger cutting inside from the left and unleashing a powerful strike into the top right corner, making it 5-1. Niolskiaj gave their opponents absolutely no chances after hitting another rocket into the roof. Niolskiaj advances further to play Lidonia in the semi-finals in Brodrik.
