DYSLEXYA
"Goodbye L.A." Blah Blah Blah Audio only When I listened to this song for the first time I immediately fell in love with it, the music and the voice of the singer is just amazing in my opinion! and I hope the judges can hear that as well Lyrics
Goodbye L.A Did you ever notice I was gone? Will you ever notice I am?
Goodbye L.A I’ll see you soon Goodbye L.A I’m going home For now Lots of stars Plenty of cars A smile beams A poor heart's dream Where they say You might find your way Yes I Love I Found mine
Goodbye L.A Did you ever notice I was gone? Goodbye L.A Chicago is home For now
Lots of stars Too many cars A smile gleams And poor heart's dream Where they say You might find your way Yes I Love I Found mine
No you won’t stop No you won’t stop me now No more [/font]

"GIANT PEACH" Wolf Alice
3:43+
"Giant Peach" is a song by Wolf Alice off their debut album, My Love Is Cool. The song talks about lead singer Ellie Rowsell's experiences growing up in London, specifically Holloway in North London. The song's title, 'giant peach', is a play off the term 'big apple', which has come to represent New York City, so thus, Wolf Alice have decided to refer to London as a 'giant peach'.
The entire song describes a back-and-forth, love-hate relationship that Ellie has with Holloway, but also with London in general.
I have a tricky love affair, ya know With the place where I grew up But it knows I'll never leave, ya know
When Ellie has talked about Holloway in interviews, she normally mentions it in a positive light. In this song however, she delves on the negatives moreso, and thus ends up being confliced about it, claiming she has a 'tricky love affair' with it. The last line is more metaphorical than real, she'll never leave the place she grew up, because it'll always be with her, no matter what.
I hate to see it despair, oh, don't you do it I hate to see it screw up
Wolf Alice is well-known for not being afraid to take public political stances, and it's likely that not just these lyrics, but all of the lyrics to this song, have some political undertones to them. Maybe a stretch, but it's possible these lyrics were written when Boris Johnson was the mayor of London, and Wolf Alice, as staunch Labour supporters, would clearly see this as London 'screwing up'.
But it knows I can hardly grieve When it's hard to give a, hard to give a... (*scream*)
But then she ends up conflicting herself again, because despite her feelings towards her town, both emotional and political, she wants to make it clear that she doesn't really care (even though it's obvious from other lyrics that she does).
What the hell keeps me here? In this dark old town that I've adored The rules don't seem so clear And change, it feels like fear, it's all you know
Here she talks about having lived in the town her entire life and knowing that it really doesn't have anything else to offer to her. She wants to leave, but she also believes change is too scary, mainly because of her emotional connection to the town.
Our dark and pretty town Our dark and pretty town Our dark and handsome town Our dark and pretty town
'Dark' could have two meanings here: as an English band, Wolf Alice could be referring to England's stereotypically gloomy weather; it could also be a metaphor for isolation from the rest of the world, as she's lived in the town her entire life. In a metaphorical sense, 'dark' could also refer to the idea of 'being left in the dark' as in, being unknowledgeable of certain things, events and so on.
My dark and pretty town
In the final line of the song, Ellie takes full possession over the town, claiming it as her own. As in the previous lines, she continues ascribing it adjectives like 'pretty' and 'handsome'. She feels an emotional connection to it, and although she may not like what's happening to the town and want to leave, she just knows it's hard because of the sentimental value it has for her.
| LYRICS
I got change in a pocket somewhere Got my letter in the box Tired of waiting for the bus to nowhere And tired of chasing the stone fox I don't tell lies no more, ya know I just don't tell the truth I don't know what I'm looking for, ya know But I'm not looking for proof
I have a tricky love affair, ya know With the place where I grew up But it knows I'll never leave, ya know I never left it much I hate to see it despair, oh, don't you do it I hate to see it screw up But it knows I can hardly grieve When it's hard to give a, hard to give a... (*scream*)
Don't know what keeps me here It's not the boy giving the funny feels Don't know what keeps me here It's not the P to pay for the wheel What the hell keeps me here? In this dark old town that I've adored The rules don't seem so clear And change, it feels like fear, it's all you know
Our dark and pretty town Our dark and pretty town Our dark and handsome town Our dark and pretty town My dark and pretty town

CAND ICE TUSKS • "TORONTO" (2:06+) (S06E04, QUEENS IN THE CITY)
Oh, what do you mean? I don't feel your passion for anything I don't feel your love reach me I'll stay where I can breathe at least Oh, darling, throw damage from afar Hollow me out And turn me down to someone we both can't love now Edging your scars around Toronto Oh, darling what have you done You threw away without a second thought And the words, they burn in my life Your eyes are closed, you're just killing off Every piece of our memory I'm just wasting on a line until you leave It's too late now to give me life You're in my heart, right through your eyes You're just fluttering Toronto
|
Toronto is a song Tusks wrote while she was there and she tells how she connects the city as a relationship. It's intense about how dark and damaging [relationships] can be when they take a turn for the worst, which started off as a really reverberant guitar and vocal track that slowly evolved into the dark brooding production it is now. She refers to the city as she also admits that it is one of her favorite cities that she gets inspired to write songs, as she loves the melancholy that it inspires.

"Queens in the City"
Here is my official entry for week 4. After being in the bottom last week, I wanted to try a new genre and go for a more atmospheric song &
Song:
Anna of the North "Oslo"
(2:11-2:26)
About the artist: Anna of the North is a musician from Oslo, Norway. Her music is described as "soft, soul barring, electro-pop". I've chosen her because her voice is calm and it's a sweet song.
How does it match the theme?
Anna of the North's song is about her home city of Oslo. She talks how she does not want to leave the city and in the harshest of winter's nights, she feels warm in Oslo. Anna had to leave Oslo for study abroad and for her music career. But, she never forgets her home in Oslo. Her lyric "I hope you will be here next year" has a deep meaning to me. As you leave your home, you don't know how it will change. Friends and family will change and when you aren't home, you miss those changes. I just hope my friends and family do not forget about me. This song is sweet and shows her love for Oslo.
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Winter's night, Oslo
Just a burning light in the snow
Keep me warm, shelter me from the storm
On this night, Oslo
[Verse 2]
From the start, Oslo
Light in my heart, red glow
Drinking much, dance on the roofs of cars
In the burning streets of Oslo
[Chorus]
I never wanna leave you
I never wanna go
You're the warmth that's in my heart
And it makes me feel at home
I never wanna leave you
I never wanna go
I hope you'll still be here
Next year
[Verse 3]
We'll go home and become close
Hang up fur coats and lose our clothes
I'll keep you warm, shelter you from the storm
Winter's night, Oslo
[Chorus]
I never wanna leave you
I never wanna go
You're the warmth that's in my heart
And it makes me feel at home
I never wanna leave you
I never wanna go
I hope you'll still be here
Next year
[Outro]
I never wanna leave
I never wanna go
You're the warmth that's in my heart
And it makes me feel at home
I never wanna leave

"BEIRUT"
by Yasmine Hamdan
2:42+
This song, whose lyrics are a poem by Omar El Zenni, and written in the 1940s, is a poem (& song) addressed to the people of Beirut. The lyrics are bemoaning the city of Beirut and describing how the city's economy and community are deteriorating.
Along with this, within this music video (there is two versions of it), some shots of Beirut, filmed from the 40s and the 70s, and on various areas of the city, and then collected by Yasmine's friends.
A description of the song, found on Yasmine Hamdan's website: "People are drinking along the road People are playing brave and bold. They bet on horses they scout ghosts, They wear temptation, They cruise around, They fool around and that's Beirut. Beirut, a flower out of its season, her beauty, her good old days, what an end what a waste it withers. There is no hope left, that's how it went, the camel kneeled, his leg was sealed. Redeemed and dammed, all unemployed, they cast the spell, and that's Beirut. Beirut, a flower out of its season, her beauty, her good old days, what an end and what a waste it withers." | LYRICS (ENGLISH TRANSLATION)
Beirut Arak drinkin'
Card playin' Racehorse cheerin'
Pigeon huntin'
The essence of Beirut
Seduction crowd
Cruisin' around Foolin' about
Tis' all there is on the minds Of the citizens of Beirut
Beirut
A flower off its terrain
Beirut Oh her beauty, her good old days
Beirut
That dire end, all a waste
Withering
All unemployed Hopeless Ruined and rusted Jinxed and accursed Those dealers of Beirut
Oh the strutting That fancy livin' Excess of splurging Exploded vanity Smothering Beirut |

Fourth Challenge
Week 4 ♦ Queens In The City ♦
New York By St.Vincent Timeslot: 2:31 This song is so beautiful and full with passion, one of the best songs in Masseduction (since last entry was not a city, my fault Thanks @garameaning ❤️, I decided to go with another song I love)
I have lost a hero I have lost a friend
Lyrics:
[Verse 1] New York isn't New York without you, love So far in a few blocks to be solo
[Refrain 1] And if I called you from First Avenue Well, you're the only motherfucker in the city who can handle me
[Verse 2] New love wasn't true love, back to you love So much for a home run with some blue bloods
[Refrain 2] If I last-strawed you on 8th Avenue Well, you're the only motherfucker in the city who can stand me
[Chorus] I have lost a hero I have lost a friend But for you, darling I'd do it all again
[Chorus] I have lost a hero I have lost a friend But for you, darling I'd do it all again
[Verse 3] New York isn't New York without you, love Too few of our old crew left on Astor
[Refrain 3] So, if I trade our hood for some Hollywood Well, you're the only motherfucker in the city who would Only motherfucker in the city who would Only motherfucker in the city who'll forgive me
[Chorus] I have lost a hero I have lost a friend But for you, darling I'd do it all again
[Chorus] I have lost a hero I have lost a friend But for you, darling I'd do it all again
In this beautiful song St. Vincent talks about how she lost someone she loves Now New York isn't New York It's now an empty city She still loves that person And it's willing to give it all, even if it's means suffer '' But for you, darling I'd do it all again''

WEEK 4 Queens in the City
AMY SPEACE - MANILA STREETRecap time: 1:14+I discovered the song recently, and the song sounded so soothing and calm. This song is kind of my type of songs, which can be questionable, I guess. I've been in the bottom for 3 weeks, so I hope that the judges can see this is a good and decent song and put me at least safe for this week.
If I get eliminated though, I won't be surprised.
Lyrics:
The roses of the Philippines stretch across Manila Street, bursting with the vanity of summer rain: cardinal and cinnamon, damask, wine, vermillion — the patchwork mask of Harlequin in a parade*
He woo’s the lady with his dance, like your thorny eloquence — I wish for things I cannot ask of you to say
I count the days from then to this: when you woke me with a kiss — to the day when I won’t miss you like I do today
How will I know when to let it go, let it fall as soft as snow, maybe then
How will I know when I’m over you, when tears give way to something new, maybe then I’ll love again
I dig the earth upon my knees, geraniums and peonies, lavender and rosemary to fill the hours
Planting roots to catch and start and distract my hurting heart, surrendering to the art of blooming flowers
How will I know when to let it go, let it fall as soft as snow, maybe then, maybe then. Maybe I’ll know when I’m over you, when tears give way to something new, and maybe then I’ll love again
And so the petals bloom and fade, curling up in morning shade, I still wish for words I’ll never hear you say
I count the days from then to this — when you woke me with a kiss – to the day when I won’t miss you like I do today.

"The Suburbs" Arcade Fire
4.05+
Arcade Fire is a Canadian indie rock band, consisting of husband and wife Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, along with Win's younger brother William Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara.
The Suburbs is a song about band's lead singer Win Butler growing up in the Suburbs in Houston. He remembers urban sprawl of Houston, specifically the master-planned super-suburb that is The Woodlands, Texas. Butler isn’t exactly nostalgic either. Mostly he fantasizes about suburban warfare so milquetoast, he’s bored by it.
With this challenge, I wanna show the lifestyle of living in the urban area of the city. even though Suburbs isn't exactly key to the city life, it is still part of city and Suburb in American culture reflect more on misery than on happiness of city life. Arcade Fire suggest aimlessness, apathy and endless rushing are ingrained into the suburban culture and mentality. | LYRICS
In the suburbs, I, I learned to drive And you told me we'd never survive Grab your mother's keys, we're leaving You always seemed so sure That one day we'd be fighting in a suburban war Your part of town against mine I saw you standing on the opposite shore But by the time the first bombs fell We were already bored We were already, already bored
Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling again
The kids want to be so hard But in my dreams, we're still screaming And running through the yard And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall And all of the houses they built in the seventies finally fall Meant nothing at all Meant nothing at all, it meant nothing
Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling and into the night
So can you understand Why I want a daughter while I'm still young? I want to hold her hand And show her some beauty before this damage is done But if it's too much to ask, if it's too much to ask Then send me a son Under the overpass In the parking lot we're still waiting, it's already passed So move your feet from hot pavement and into the grass 'Cause it's already passed It's already, already passed
Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling again I'm moving past the feeling I'm moving past the feeling
In my dreams we're still screaming We're still screaming We're still screaming
