THE HOST SONG
Welcome to the participants to the 4th edition of The Sound of Africa!
Welcome to the participants to the 4th edition of The Sound of Africa!
As you can see, two different cities are involved in the contest.
Firstly, we have Oujda, the town where Amel Bent's family come from, and where we are just about to organise the International Rai Festival between the 13th and the 20th of July. The day before the contest, a big outdoor concert will be organised in Oujda.
But we also wanted to offer you the best experience in a modern concert hall in Nador. That is where the Grand Final will take place. Nador is only 120 km away from Oujda, and many busses will be provided so the fans of the contest will be able to travel easily between them. The entire event will also be broadcasted live in Oujda, in the same stadium than the concert the day before.
Next week's meteorogical forecasts for Oujda are pretty good: we'll have a sunny and reasonably warm weather (with maximal temperatures around 30°C between the 1st and the 5th of July and up to 35°C on the 7th - but we have cool nights in Oujda). In Nador, we're expecting a sunny and cool weather with maximal temperatures between 24 and 28°C.
Now, let's introduce the Moroccan contestant. Hanan Hamdi is better known as Namika. She has Moroccan roots from her mother and her father.
Her mother is born in Germany from emigrated parents who have roots in Nador. Her father Ahmed was Moroccan. His story is quite sad. He and Namika's mother met in Morocco then started living together in Germany. But soon Ahmed left and went back to Morocco. Financial issues, drugs, prison and then cancer. He finally died in 2002 before being able to see her grown up daughter. Namika's familian and ethnic background are very palpable in Namika's latest album Que Walou and she even made a song about her father. The lyrics of the song are basically everything she revealed about him - which is already quite a lot.
But for the competition, we chose a song that is a bit more entertaining: Phantom. The theme of the song is her life on tour, singing in a different city each day then vanishing like a phantom to the next one. The music video was made in Bangkok.
