UPDATE from Latvia: 2 days later and government has decided to lower the number from 200 to 50. So now there can't be organized/unorganized events or any kind of meetings (indoors and/or outdoors), that involve more than 50 people, otherwise you are very likely to get penalty, if someone sees such things happen and decides to hand you over. For that reason every major event is either postponed for later or cancelled entirely. From midnight tonight no one will be able to leave the country/get in the country as well. The only exceptions are latvians, who want to get back home here in Latvia, or those, who are not latvians and live abroad and want to return home. Only coming or going home.

Must say when I flew out here to the UK I didn't expect to get stuck in another country with a government literally trying to advocate getting 60% of the people infected...
Im a little concerned if I get anything as I am staying with my 70 year old grandmother and her 74 year old husband who Im not sure if they could handle it. But for now Im just wearing a respirator mask in public and following normal hygiene.

I am a Teaching Assistant so if the schools do close would not be needed and we are all on temporary contracts for term time only. So if the Schools close then it is not term time and would not be paid. No one really knows for sure but that is what everyone is saying at the moment. My area had its first confirmed case today so the chances of school closing is increasing as well I understand why they would have to but I love my job so would really miss going into School if it does close. I thought you were a permanent contract teacher, that's why I asked... temporary contracts obviously don't have that security benefit (unless the employer decides otherwise)... well, I guess it's inevitable now, that it will close, so all you can hope for is that it's not for long. Let's hope all these actions do help getting back to normal ASAP Yeah sadly I am not a permanent teacher yet. Start teacher training in September. Some people are saying we will still be covered as it is not a normal school holiday but other people are saying we wont get paid so I don't think anyone really knows. If Northern Ireland is anything to go by if the schools do close it could be weeks before they reopen possible even putting back the start of my teacher training as well. The UK's response to this is all rather strange to me. Why would a government want to get people infected? Seems to go against any logic I can think of surly they should be doing everything they can to stop people getting infected by it.

I know I've only been here for a few months so I don't wanna judge it too much but it seems almost like the country is one massive circus when it comes to this kind of thing. Perhaps to prove their independent after Brexit they decided to do the opposite of what the EU was doing, who even knows....

I also think, that Johnson just want's to show (in everything), that he's the "real hero". This article pretty much proves it - shorturl.at/mGIZ8

I know this is not really the place to talk about it so will keep it brief but even the whole Brexit thing is stupid in my opinion. Back to the point of this conversation though i still cant get my head around why they want to infect 60% of the UK! There is loads of other Countries the UK could have learnt that acting fast could save a lot of lives but nope they do the complete opposite. Don't get me wrong I really don't want time off from work but at the same time I know acting fast would mean it would be a lot less time off and that a lot less people would get ill. I know for most people it is not that major but even if it does not make you that ill you have no idea who you will pass it on to and how it will affect them.

Now we know that the activity of the virus won't decrease because of the temperature. The number of cases is skyrocketing in Touba, second biggest city of Senegal. One case coming from Italy was enough to ignite the epidemic.

I think we need to back off the UK here, we may all have an opinion but none of us are scientist or politicians and as such have no real idea on how to best deal with this kind of situation.
A decision has been made based on knowledge that people have and the seriousness of the situation. This is not the bubonic plague or Ebola, its a different stand of the flu virus.
My best guess for the UK's response is because the more people that get it, their immune system will be able to fight against it and therefore if they get it again the body can fight it better. I'm not saying jump into bed with someone from the coronavirus and personally I hope I do not get it but I hope if i do my body can fight it and protect me for if were to happen again.
Also, the Health service here isn't ready for a shut down of the country whereas trying to delay it until the summer where the NHS is better prepared is what the aim is, we have more staff in the summer and as such will have the doctors and nurses needed to help the people that get ill.
No one is speaking about the real issue here which is how the virus came in the first place. There needs to be better laws in China about how they look after their food produce and there markets for 'exotic' animals needs to stop. The cross contamination is absolutely vile and disgusting and if China continues to not address this and if governments don't deal with this then it's not going to get better.
Don't come shooting at me for my opinion but I just think we should look at the wider picture. Just wash your hands !!
