Romania, famous for not taking risks, is taking a risk!
Bucharest • 2nd May 2020 • 21:00 Following an impressive ninth place finish achieved by Olivia Addams in Varberg, Romania has revealed its act for the upcoming edition in Australia. Although it was expected the country would follow its "safe" format of uptempo female pop songs, which has seen them place in the top 10 for five of the last six editions, TVR decided that this would be an edition for breaking the mould, and so the chosen act is unlike anything Romania has sent to the NowNewMusic Contest before.
Romania to ride N-Tone's wave in Canberra! In spite of rumours that Romania would send an established act, such as former representatives Ioana Ignat and Ester Peony, the country's act for the contest is, in fact, relative unknown N-Tone. The producer, real name Daniel Antonescu, competed to represent the nation in the 39th edition alongside Andreea Vilcan with the song "Rău mă dor ochii, mă dor", however placed last in the national final with just 5.71% of the vote.
In spite of this, and in spite of the entry having less than 700 views on YouTube, TVR has entrusted him with the job of representing Romania with his self-written piano composition,WAVE Music by Daniel Antonescu • Released April 9th 2020
(Timeslot • 1:31+)
All of TVR wishes the best of luck to N-Tone in Canberra and hopes for the small chance that taking a risk may pay off with another qualification to the final. We wish good luck to every country! I have no expectations of this song, and fully expect to fail miserably with it, but I thought that I should a) at least once send more original than female pop and b) send something I love. We'll just see what happens, and if it's bottom three in the semi, then so be it. Televiziunea Română 2020 • Post design borrowed from someone (either Alper or Dimitris I think, but I'm not certain who used it first)
