What an edition! Recording my own voice for the results was a chore since I basically had to plan out what I wanted to say so that I could speak more coherently. Definitely won't be doing that in a long time, but it was so fun to do! I knew I wanted to do something extra to make this edition more special. Hope you all enjoyed that.
First off, I have to giggle at the fact that
Sweden is the only Nordic country to NQ. Like even little Faroe Islands qualified.
Also note that
Turkey is 10th while
Finland is 11th. ScoreWiz's ties are funky sometimes when you have to incorporate the "televote" feature.
The fact that we failed to catch this mistake at all is still funny to me. Still a great song, but obviously it's not fair for a song to get another chance to compete again, so you had to be disqualified. We're gonna try to be more thorough in verifying each entry in the future. Hopefully, we'll see an actually new song compete in #51.
This is okay as an AQ entry, but in this final, it's lackluster.
These didn't deserve to qualify to begin with. Not a fan at all.
An international crime has been committed. You were UNDERRATED. A brilliant twerk anthem meant
from me.
Placement-wise, too low. Deserves to be middle of the board at best. Both are bops.
Out of all the Nordics, this was the clear weakest one. Overall indifferent to this.
Definitely deserved to qualify. Its final placement is also satisfactory (even if I wanted it higher). Great song overall.
UNDERRATED. My
. Russian bangers like give me LIFE.
Mikolas' music has just gone downhill, has it? I don't like this at all. Even "Me Gusta" was better. (I mean that came 3rd back in #30, so...)
Eh... this is just basic pop that happens to be in Farsi(?). Nothing outstanding.
Not into BABYMETAL in general, but I would be wrong to say this didn't deserve to qualify. Definitely stood out, but not a contender.
ALSO UNDERRATED. My
. The drop, though not explosive, was impactful. Really good entry.
UNDERRATED. My
. And absolutely catchy track. One of the best Chinese entries this year
(even if isn't mainland).
Surprised it did this well. I would personally place this lower, but as a debut act for Madagascar, incredible job!
Not the strongest Korean entry this year, but as a K-pop liker, it was good enough to be my 11th overall. I'm happy it placed in the top half at least.
This is just amazing. I wouldn't have minded seeing this in the top 10, but it was a strong final.
You were also very close to my top 10, but you lost out. Really nice and fresh track.
Well done as a host entry. This didn't leave much of an impression on me though, but not mad its placement either. It's just right for it.
A pleasant surprise for me. Thought it wouldn't qualify, but look at you in 12th place. A good song with a deserving placement.
So good! From 11th upwards, it's really cutting it close since the songs from here on out were mostly just musical excellence. Would've been an amazing top 10 finisher. Slightly gutted it lost the tie-break.
Turkey starting to slay since last September. This entry is no exception. It almost got points from me. You're becoming a country I want to see win NNMC someday if you keep this up.
Yasss slay! This is the kind of song I didn't expect from a country like Malta, so this really surprised me. I gave you
for a good reason. Well done!
IMO the weakest song in this top 10. It's just lower-mid-table for me. I think having Dua Lipa slightly overhyped this, but I knew it was going to do well regardless. 8th is actually the perfect placement IMO.
Another surprise. Not one of my favorites, but I see why it placed this well. Congrats!
MY
! Wah. Would've been iconic to see Poland win, but the non-finalists were just jealous. I can say with absolute confidence that this is the best Polish entry in
years (like since 2016). Very proud to see such an exception result for a long-time participant like Poland. <33333
My
. Definitely a strong French entry, but I gravitated to other entries in this strong final. This was always going to be a contender, so a placement outside the Top 5 would be unjust.
BANGER. BANGER. BANGER. SLAY QUEEN. Nathy Peluso snapped like that. Any other edition, this could've been my 12 points, but I had to settle with
since it was almost a toss-up for my top points. I wish this placed in the top 3, so I'm bummed it fell short. Nevertheless, iconic. <33333
Miles better than "Pame pame" imo, but 3rd place? I don't see it. You're welcome in the top 10, but top 3 is just too much imo. Like 6th is probably the highest I'd personally wouldn't mind it in.
But still, a step up from her other song. Congratulations on AQ-ing though!
flagirel- I mean
I had this pegged as the winner right off the bat, so to see it not win was a bit shocking. I was low-key hoping NNMC would return to the ASEAN region again.
This got
from me. It's just so good and such a high-caliber dance entry, especially coming from Malaysia, or should I say Ma
slaysia?
IIRC, this is William's 3rd time placing in the top 3 this year (with
3 different countries at that), so huge congratulations on such a great achievement, William.
Where do I begin? Well, I'm slightly upset that I didn't give this 12 points, but
instead. It was either this or Poland for my top marks, and it was just so hard to choose. Naturally, I would want my eventual 12 points to win, but my 10 points winning is also good enough I suppose. Upon hearing the song for the first time, it stuck with me. I obsessed with it. It was a clear favorite of mine from the start.
Norway has been one of those countries in NNMC that had winner-worthy songs on several past occasions. So whenever it fell short of winning in those occasions, I get a little gutted. But everything happens for a reason. This win couldn't have come at a better time. It's also really cool to see a song
finally pass the 300-point mark when there were so many opportunities for it to happen, especially when we regularly have around 60 users. The fact that it took 70+ users for this achievement also shows the quality of entries that everybody sends. What also helped was having one less country in the final to vote for when Netherlands got DQ'd. But hey, it's a valid achievement.
Congratulations,
Gregory (inactive) ! Both times you've won, you tended to score big.
Some brief thoughts into the semifinals results:
SF1:
You were so close to qualifying!
An undeserved flop for a debut. It should've been at least close to qualifying imo.
SF2:
INJUSTICE. This did not deserve last at all.
3 points off! You were so close! You deserved to qualify so much!
Still frustrated this didn't even qualify. Even more frustrated how out of reach it was from being able to.
SF3:
One point short. This should've qualified over Israel imo.
You were close, too, but I'm relieved it didn't qualify in the end. Overhyped.
I've taken a liking to Yseult's music, so I'm disappointed she scored so low.
Underrated.
SF4:
The UK NQ'd because the RotW preferred Denmark over the UK. (We usually add the RotW votes last.)
As we were adding the RotW points, this was our jaw-dropping reaction to the UK's last-minute NQ. It was such a shock to Greg and I! Ultimately, the UK fell short by one heart-breaking point.
I mean, even though I NQ'd, I didn't too bad compared to other NQ's I guess.
Way too low in placement IMO.
So excited to see how this year's Song of the Year competition will turn out. See you then!
