Alaska to serve the native languageNuvupigaqmnek malruat atauciatAnchorage ☆ 24th November 2020Following the confirmation for the contest hosting of the northernmost state, the local informative website Alaska Daily News published an article citing that broadcaster Alaska Rural Communications Service (ARCS) opened the song submission in Alaskan native languages and Russian. But in case there is no suitable application, the entry will be sadly in flagukflagus English once again. The delegation team revealed to the reporter that they received around 212 submissions from artists throughout the US. This time, the Slovak OESC star Celeste Buckingham was reportedly among the applicants too. Now that the second Alaskan representative is selected, we would like to announce that the aforementioned entrant is going to be...

★ Pamyua (Yup'ik: its tail) is a Yupik musical group from Anchorage in the U.S. state of Alaska. Pamyua showcases Inuit culture though music and dance performance. The show is a platform to share indigenous knowledge and history. Their style derives from traditional melodies reinterpreted with contemporary vocalization and instrumentation. Often described as “Inuit Soul Music”, Pamyua has discovered their own genre. ★Pamyua formed in April 1995 by brothers Phillip Blanchett and Stephen 'Qacung' Blanchett. The brothers who were raised together in Wasilla stumbled upon a musical concept to blend Inuit drumdance melodies with R&B vocal styling and arrangements. The duo immediately began sharing their performance around Alaska and collaborating with like-minded artists. Later that year Ossie Kairaiuak or Aassanaaq who was raised in Chefornak and now lives in Anchorage permanently joined the brothers. He is a master Yup'ik drum maker, illustrator, dancer and prolific composer of the group’s most popular songs. While the passionate powerhouse vocalist Karina Moellerin decided to join the group in the Spring of 1996. She was born and raised in Qaqortoq, the small town located in the south of Greenland and currently lives in Copenhagen. Karina composes and arranges music for Pamyua and performs together with the group for special occasions. Today, the quartet works with world-class musicians from Alaska and Denmark and travels the world sharing their blend of cultural harmony - but their next destination for their culturally musical journey is going to be in Own USAvision Song Contest stage which will be held in Alaska. During the grand final night, the host entrant is going to perform their newest revamped version of the song . . .
Drum I Carry Alaska in Own USAvision Song Contest 2
Song released by Pamyuacomposed by Daniel Billtimeslot: 1:50+ ★ The selected song was inspired by the traditional Alaskan music instrument like a local drum. This song is related to the group so much as everywhere the group goes to perform, they keep a drum close at hand and grace the audience with their magical and beautiful traditional dance. The verses of the song revel the close-knit relationships with Yup'ik / Cup'ik people which have the biggest population among all the Alaskan natives. Daniel Bill who composed this song is a renowned culture bearer and Cup'ik composer. Pamyua released the first two versions of the song before in their album Side A / Side B in 2012 and revamped the song by integrating with modern and catchy elements around seven years later which is going to be marked as Alaskan entry in Own America Song Contest 2. And these are all about our next entry 'Drum I Carry' which is entirely written in one of Alaska’s native languages - Yupi'k language.
Best of luck to every participant and welcome to Alaska! ☆
