Why would I stay when Andorra is calling? The third edition of mahrajan al'aghnia has drawn to a close, and following two extremely close rounds of voting, LBC has found a representative for its return to the thirty-ninth North Vision Song Contest. After winning the first round of voting with 159 points and maintaining his lead with 53% of the vote in the run-off, Lebanon's hopes for the contest in Andorra will be resting on...
Zef
Seeing off an entire field of female vocalists in mahrajan al'aghnia, indie artist Joseph Abboud (he/him), known by the moniker Zef, will fly the Lebanese flag at the upcoming contest. Born in the coastal city of Byblos in 1994, Zef's musical career has grown from busking on the city's streets to writing and producing music both for himself and other artists, as well as more recently making a foray into the world of acting.
Zef's lifelong close connection to the Mediterranean Sea provides one source for his musical inspiration, the other being his unwavering joie de vivre against the hardships faced on a daily basis by his home country. Capturing the attention of the Lebanese music scene from his first release "Chi Nhar" (2019), Zef is currently working on his debut album, expected to be released in September.
« Leish Baddi Eb'a »
Composers Anthony Khoury & Joseph Abboud Timeslot 2:48+ Zef's entry for the contest in Andorra la Vella is "Leish Baddi Eb'a" (ليش بدي إبقى), Arabic for 'why would I stay?'. The song, co-written by Zef and Anthony Khoury – also the writer of Dana Hourani's entry for NVSC 35, "Enti Ana" – is described by the artist himself as "a commentary on the mass immigration of the Lebanese youth, told through the story of two young lovers facing a painful separation". With Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia choosing to rest their hopes on English and French-language entries, "Leish Baddi Eb'a" will be the only song in Arabic at North Vision this edition.
« It has been fantastic to finally see the return of mahrajan al'aghnia. How Zef will fare in North Vision with "Leish Baddi Eb'a" remains to be seen, but what has already been made clear is the diversity that our Lebanese music scene has to offer. Zef's entry, not unlike those brought to the contest by Dana Hourani and Venus Bleeds, has been shaped by the complexities of his relationship with his homeland, and we hope the voters will enjoy it. »
Will Zef make it three out of three for mahrajan al’aghnia winners qualifying to the final with "Leish Baddi Eb'a"? We'll find out soon.
The full results of mahrajan al'aghnia are in the spoiler. Thank you to the 25 people who voted in at least one round
Final Run-off"Show Up": 7 votes (47%) "Leish Baddi Eb'a": 8 votes (53%)
Lebanon's NVSC journey made the best possible start as Nicole Saba won for the country on their debut in the fifth edition with 'Hafdal Ahlam', bringing the contest to Beirut for the sixth edition and starting a (to this day unmatched) three-edition qualification streak. The country's results from then on were rather turbulent, including two four-edition streaks of non-qualifications, although Myriam Fares achieved Lebanon's second best result with 'Nifsi Aoulhalak' in the fourteenth edition - second place.
A new delegation stepped in for the twenty-fourth edition, bringing Lebanon back to the final with Nelly Makdessy's 'Kunt Atmanna' in Vienna, and achieving three top ten results for the country (with 'Call Me a Stranger', '22' and 'Dear Jealousy') before passing the baton on to the current delegation team for the thirty-fourth edition onwards, returning to the final - and to the top ten - with Azure Ryder's 'Stronger'.
Brought to you by the Lebanese delegation on 17th July 2022

ENCORE UNE FOIS... Last edition, the Belgian representative for Leeds, Grace, was chosen internally by the VRT professional commission. She unfortunately failed to qualify, barely missing out on the final by just 8 points. Second consecutive non-qualification for the country didn't mean the selection process had to be changed. This time, RTBF decided to follow VRT's footsteps and opted for an internal selectio. Today, during an evening show, the Walloon broadcaster announced the name of the Belgian entrant who will wave the country's flag in Andorra.
Maria-Laetitia Mattern is a Belgian singer and the next essential pop figure of the Franco-Brussels scene. She previously represented Belgium in the twenty-sixth edition as a part of Sonnfjord. Mattern had a desire for a solo project for a long time. She started to write songs entirely in French, with a completely different production and other aesthetic ideas. This means that Belgium will be represented by a song performed in French for the third time in a row.
ML will represent her homeland with "Un peu plus haut (A Bit Higher)", where she shares her feeling of living in a world where everything would be false, routine and out of control.
This song means a lot to me. It's very pure, no major arrangements, only a piano+voice combination. I wrote it in one evening in a really instinctive way. It's like a personal journey, a desire to portray my own vision of life, far from what society gives us - stereotypes, manipulations. It sounds very melancholic and yet I was very happy when I wrote it.
As a Belgian, taking part in the North Vision Song contest really means a lot to me. It's an honor to represent my country with such a great team. I try not to have too many expectations of this particular event, though. I'm already putting enough pressure on myself as it is and I think it might be counterproductive. I can't wait to meet all the other talented artists in person, in general I find it cool to be able to share music experiences with other performers. Votez pour la Belgique, tout le monde! UN PEU PLUS HAUTML M/L: Ambroise Willaume, Aurelio Mattern, François de Moffarts, Maria-Laetitia Mattern

The way so many users today actually put a lot of effort in their posts... and then there's William. Controversy After these events, the Sicilian TW:(alexeh ) nationalist movement has wrecked havoc on the state of affairs within the Italian nation. Cara causing instability to the fabric of the Italian Northvision Song Contest experience is no surprise though, for this is the second time this NVSC decade her hands got tied in an RAI scandal... I believe it, do you? Regardless, calls from Palermo to rescind ties with Rome have been growing, with a movement entitled #UnaCervezaPorFavor gaining traction both regionally and globally.[3]
With these turn of events.... the Italian delegation (that being me, classifiedcat 95% warning level) is heavily considering REMOVING the region of Sicily from its demoscopic panel, instead inviting sourcandy 's Emilia-Romagna.[15][16][17] Lombardy can stay for now, however those treacherous heathens provided us with DADA's 'Cavala',[EXHIBIT A][EXHIBIT B][15] so as you can imagine, tensions are still EXTREMELY HIGH!
There in fact was a tie for first place in the televote in fact! Between this and Reve's 'Tongue'. However... after the (horrible) Maltese delegation kindly courier pigeoned that Reve SAMPLED word for word the lyric 'That's so Raven' from the 'That's so Raven' theme track,[2] it was over for Reve. Furthered by the fact of the newly found Trst demoscopic jury private messaging the Italian delegation frantically casting their ballots for Preferisco te.[11][12]
So, who's ACTUALLY going for Italy? We've already gone through this in #nvsc, but for those of you who are simply... unaware... CARA and Chadia Rodriguez have NOT EVEN MADE A FKN MUSIC VIDEO like what the fuck do they want me 2 do.... USE A LYRIC VIDEO??? Hell no!
Cara herself was heavily rumoured to be a contestant on the NBU's new hit show... the NVSC Masked Singer. She was rumoured to be the gremlin. That's right, Cara is rumoured to be a gremlin.
Is there a message to this song? No!! Is there an Emilie Adams 'Monogamy' type beat on this track? No!! Just kidding, yes The Scandinordic beats were not found in dearly departed Sweden,[20] no no, nor will they be found in yet-to-be-posted Denmark. We have all seen the Balkan and Baltic nations band together, [17] but the Scandinordics have been mysteriously silent. That's because they are ALL backing Preferisco Te. The question is, will you do the same? Will you stand with the nation of Italy in its fight against regional seperatism. Or... will you support the independence movement of Sicily? It's your call, but I know what I'm choosing. Don't end up like Amaia
