What is it anyway? A meter for the songs you usually play or a playlist or both?

You scrobble songs, and say if you love a particular artist you can stream a radio of similar artists and it genuinely helps you to expand your music taste.
It's fantastic for helping you uncover a new band or artist, or just sharing music with friends. Last.fm is such a great utility!

You need to find a way to Scrobble.
If you use Google Chrome, there's an extension for it. There may be others for different browsers but I'm unsure.
Basically that scrobbles most songs you listen online, say like on YouTube. But it doesn't scrobble every song, but you can always do it manually as long as it's in the Last.fm library. And they have millions of songs, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
Or...
Download the scrobbler for iTunes, if you like to listen to that library.
Also there's the scrobbler for Mac/Windows, just download it and get it running. And it should scrobble whatever you play.
There's multiple apps for Android and Apple users, just search for Last.fm or scrobblers in the App Store or Android Market.
When you begin scrobbling, you extend your music library with every song and artist you listen to. You can stream radios related to your music taste, and try and find some new songs or artists. Or choose an individual artist of a certain genre, and they'll try and match other singers or artists which are similar.
