A new era is coming for Japan... Tokyo, 26 January 2024 After missing out the last edition in Hanoi, today it was officially announced that Japan will return to the Own Asiavision Song Contest under a new delegation!
Japan is back to the contest!
After failing to participate last edition in Hanoi, the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) began their search for a new head of delegation that would bring the two-times winner back to the contest after this slight absence.
Yesterday, NHK publicly announced that Kunihiko Iwasaki would become the brand new Japanese head of delegation at the contest, while today, Iwasaki announced at a press conference that Japan will participate at the thirty-third edition of the Own Asiavision Song Contest, which is set to be held in Philippines.
According to Iwasaki himself, the delegation is very excited to begin a new era in Japan's participation at the contest, as they aim to share the best talents from around the country. The method of selection is still unclear as of now though, but it is expected to be revealed in the next days. In the meantime, NHK has opened a submission period for interested artists and songwriters to submit their entries to the broadcaster.

I really enjoyed my two editions with amazing Laos, and getting a top six finish with mother Thérèse last edition, but it’s time for me to start a new chapter with Japan. I wish the next person who takes Laos the best of luck! ^^
