Denmark to bring the Faroese flavour in Bilbao
Denmark Radio (DR) can announce their representative for the upcoming 44th edition of the Northvision Song Contest held in Bilbao, hosted by Radio and Television of Andorra (RTVA). Denmark will again send a singer already familiar with the Northvision stage. After winning the 31st edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, Denmark will be sending …
Eivør
Caption: Eivør posing in a recent promotional photoshoot. The 41 year old Syðrugøta-born critically acclaimed singer will be representing Denmark in the upcoming contest, making her the first Faroe Islands born singer to represent Denmark in the contest. However, she is not the first act to represent Denmark with Faroese descent, the first being Aura Dione. Again, she is no stranger to the Northvision Song Contest, representing her native Faroe Islands in editions, #21 (“Í Tokuni"), #29 (“Nothing Less Nothing More” (with Tom Hodge) and #34 (“Let It Come”), placing top 6 twice. Since her last participation in the contest, she has released music for the movie and series The Last Kingdom: The Destiny is All and has recently released 10th solo studio album, Enn, this year. Her younger sister Elinborg also won the most recent edition of the NVSC spin off contest, Nordisk Melodi Grand Prix, with her song “Í Verju Tíni”.
In Bilbao, she’ll be performing her DMGP 31 winning song "Hugsi Bert Um Teg” (English Translation: Still Just You). The track is the second single from her most recent studio album Enn and is an art-pop and synth-pop ballad spoken in her native Faroese tongue. The song discusses about Eivør’s experience of heartbreak. The entry is also the first time that Denmark is sending a Faroese language entry in the contest.
Denmark in the Northvision Song Contest #44 Eivør - “Hugsi Bert Um Teg”Lyrics: Eivør & Tróndur Bogason 1:55 - 2:25
Lyrics:
Svøvnleysa náttin Er nú aftur her Komin at vitja meg Enn einaferð
Heimleysur longsul Floymir inn um hurðagátt Fyllir tøgnina Nú í nátt
Tímarnir hanga Og eg hugsi bert um teg Heimurin endar Men eg hugsi bert um teg
Larmandi býður Og eg gangi inn í Mannamúgvur Vinir eg ei havi sæð í langa tíð
Dansi í náttini Tíðin hongur Men enn er tað bara tú Í mínum tonkum
Tímarnir hanga Og eg hugsi bert um teg Heimurin endar Men eg hugsi bert um teg Eg eri fangað Tú hevur kastað gand á meg Dagarnir ganga Og eg hugsi bert um teg Hugsi bert um teg Hugsi bert um teg Hugsi bert um teg
English Translation (provided by Eivør herself): The sleepless nightfall is back once more Come to visit me Been here before
A homeless yearning seeps under my bolted door Fills the silence Back for more
The hours are dragging and all I think about is you The world is ending still all I think about is you
Ear-splitting city and I stumble upon packs of people Friends I haven’t seen far too long
Dance in the starless night Time is dragging And there is only you on my fevered mind
The hours are dragging and all I think about is you The world is ending but all I think about is you
Trapped and spiralling You have cast a spell on me Days are ticking by And all I think about is you all I think about is you all I think about is you all I think about is you
