season 9 episode 3olympian symposium so i was assigned , the goddess of marriage, family, childbirth & women.
was a jealous diva, since her husband zeus was an adulterous son of a bitch, and she would kidnap, torture or kill his mistresses' children. she does not give girl's girl energy, so it's quite odd that she is the goddess of women if you really think about it.
but a song i feel embodies is "kill her freak out" by samia (industry plant?) who in her song describes how she's going to kill her ex's current lover who is getting married and having a baby, and then she's going to freak out. quite coded if you ask me. yet she still (i think?) yearns for this former lover, and describes his relationship with gigi (maternal or grandmaternal figure?).
she feels unworthy of love, because is not the goddess of love, just marriage, fertility, family & women. i feel an important distinction, because 's love life is quite disastrous considering her tumultuous marriage to her garbage husband zeus.
"Kill Her Freak Out" - Samia
lyrics
They’re gonna have a baby I’m thinking about Texas I dreamt I was pregnant I woke up with my guard down
You were next door with Gigi Cocktails for breakfast Walking her groceries back to the main house You kissed her fragile hands in the sunlight Cried in my arms and woke up in the backyard And when you get passive I like to imagine you listening to worship songs on your iPod
I’ve never been this bad Can I tell you something? I’ve never felt so unworthy of loving I hope you marry the girl from your hometown and I’ll fucking kill her And I’ll fucking freak out
I’ve got a letter still in my backpack its from the St Paul Police Department they wanna give me my state ID back they gave me a number but I haven’t called it remember we searched all night when I lost it? I thought about lying when I found my passport cuz I would’ve stayed kinda drunk and afraid in your room till I died in your room if you asked for it
I’ve never been this bad Can I tell you something? I’ve never felt so unworthy of loving I hope you marry the girl from your hometown and I’ll fucking kill her And I’ll fucking freak out

MIZ BULGE AREA SEASON 9 • EPISODE 3 Olympian Symposium
M83 'The Highest Journey'
Hades, in the ancient Greek religion, is the God of the underworld. In Greek mythology, the underworld is the realm where an individual goes after death. So neither heaven nor hell, but the afterlife sort of. The underworld is often depicted as a place of transition, where souls travel between life and death.
The track I'm sending this week is AGAIN a risky move because it is an 8-minute ambient piece. The atmosphetic composition and the almost ghostly vocals contribute to a sense of a vast and uncharted territory. The music gradually builds itself and the instrumental gets louder as the track progresses, resembling the journey (hence the title) towards an unknown dimension. The song's progression mirrors the stages of an otherworldly voyage: beginning with a sense of descent, moving through moments of introspection and revelation, and culminating in an ascent that symbolises transcendence and transformation. And then towards the end of the track when it is at its loudest, you have entered the afterlife.

TESS TPUSI Season 9, Episode 3: Olympian Symposium
First things first, thank you Matt for assigning me Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, lust, pleasure, passion, beauty and sexuality. She was born near Paphos by the mixing of the blood of Uranus with the sea foam, coming out on a seashell, creating an icon of beauty that the world could nary hope to imitate.
I've always had a weird relationship with love. I mean, I'm aroace. So, in the vast number of myths that depict her as this pinnacle of beauty, I've always seen nothing more than the embodiment of frail vanity. And maybe it's the aroace in me that's coming out after pride month (yes this is legal I swear), but I wanted to showcase the side of Aphrodite that we see but don't really discuss.
For this week, I decided to use the perspective of another person with a weird relationship with the goddess of love; Helen of Troy. In myths, she was often described as the most beautiful woman in the world, with beauty that even rivaled that of Aphrodite. In the Cypria, all the immortals were invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. All except for Eris, the goddess of strife. Pissed at this, she threw a golden apple with the word "καλλίστῃ" (kallistēi, "for the fairest") into the crowd at the wedding. Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite all claimed to be the rightful owner of this apple, and so they went to Zeus. Zeus, however, didn't want to show favouritism towards one, and left the decision up to Paris, a prince of Troy.
Paris was indecisive, so the trio ironically resorted to bribery over an apple destined for the fairest of them all. Hera promised power over all of Eurasia, Athena promised wisdom in battle, but Aphrodite's was too good to resist; marriage of whomever he wanted. He chose Aphrodite, and went to "claim" his prize; Helen. Helen, however, was the Queen of Sparta, married to Melelaus. As Aphrodite promised Paris, she convinced Helen to flee to Troy with him. This kicked off the Trojan War, one of the deadliest and most documented event in ancient Greece.
My song, "Skeleton Key" by Flower Face captures the images of Helen that I always imagined in a handful of lines. For starters, "I want you the way I want to be eaten alive" makes me think about how Helen didn't have a say in the events leading up to the start of the Trojan War. She didn't get a chance to object to this fate that was bestowed upon a man whom she didn't know. She was kidnapped, and thousands of innocents were slaughtered in the name of either protecting their catch, or bringing a stolen person back home. In addition, these two lines from the final chorus: "At the end of it all / Did you get what you wanted?" feel directly pointed at Aphrodite. Was the massacre of thousands over a period of ten years all stemming from bribes for a singular apple with a single word etched into its flesh worth it? This golden apple is what Aphrodite wanted, but now that its flavour has been tainted by the blood flowing from Troy, was it really worth giving Paris a skeleton key to every woman in the world? Finally, the last line of the song "I wake up with your hands on my lungs for the rest of my life" envoke the guilt that was thrust upon Helen for this war. She didn't consent to being a pawn in the schemes of this goddess made of frail vanity and sea foam. And yet, the blood stemming from this war was placed on her. She can't escape the cruel hands of fate which Aphrodite flung upon her. So every morning that Helen wakes up, the guilt stemming from this war suffocates her.
Love is many things, but what it is mainly, is cruel.

LyricsAfter you leave me do you find it easy to get seduced? Who are you waiting for when you're not waiting for me? You could've broken me out of this life that I'm chained to I gave you my skeleton key and you gave it away
But where have you been? A ghost of a lover Counting my heartbeats till I see your hologram eyes You can take it away I won't live in my hunger I'll keep you in still frames, a celluloid dream in the back of my mind
I know we're doomed, yeah, baby, please don't remind me I want you the way that I want to be eaten alive For all of the nights that I made you applaud my soliloquies What would it take to make me a thorn in your side
At the end of it all Did you get what you wanted? Afraid of the things that you do for a life that's not yours I don't mean to be cruel But I'm so fucking haunted I don't think you know what I mean when I say that I've been here before
Did it break your heart Or did you see it coming? Lead to the edge of the world with the sun in my eyes When I'm back in that dream And I'm running forever I wake up with your hands on my lungs for the rest of my life

S09E03: KEEPING UP WITH VERY PRETTY WOMEN WHO ARE GODDESSES
Eva Máziková was safe last episode, but is still determined to aim for the gold!
Eva Máziková has been assigned goddess Demeter
The song choice for this episode is... Harvest by ionnalee & TR/ST!!!
Demeter is a goddess of harvest, known for her heartbreaking story about her and her daughter Persephone. After Hades kidnapped Persephone, Demeter lost all hope for a happy life. The drowning in misery only stopped when Zeus decided to help her convince Hades to bring Persephone back.
Due to Persephone already eating six seeds of an underworld fruit, there was an agreement done that Persephone must stay 6 months in Underworld and 6 months on Earth every year. Demeter was therefore able to provide bountiful harvest - but only for the six months that her daughter was home.
The song Harvest by ionnalee presents an atmosphere of depression, misery and fear of being forgotten and abandoned, mirroring Demeter's feelings when she lost her daughter. However, during the bridge of the song, the artist reminds us that hope remains as long as there is something to move forward for. In Demeter's case, that was Persephone, her only light or "flame" who she managed to rescue together with Zeus, but only under a special condition. The personal Harvest comes to her in form of her daughter coming back from Underworld, who she needs to let go every year in order to see her again. The long waiting and following reunion is an eternal reminder of what's worth living for, as it is for us humans as well.
We have the tendency to only appreciate the things we have once we end up losing them, whether temporary or forever.

POSEIDON An Ocean - Lucinda Chua
For this week I was assigned Poseidon, who is associated with the sea, earthquakes, floods, drought and horses. He is mainly associated with water and it's movements, so for this week after researching I really connected with this song, not only cause it is called An Ocean and tt's video fits really beautiful, but because the song uses this body of water as a metaphore for loneliness and emptiness feeling, as the ocean feels so immense and unknown, it's waves are used as a metaphore for the fear and restlessness of it all, the song also creates a really special atmosphere that I think will translate well what I was going for.
Lyrics:
You think we're one and the same
I thought it over again (you know)
And felt the distance like an ocean, an ocean, an ocean
I try to look for the words (you don't)
Wanna heal where it hurts
To feel the freedom (you know) of an ocean, an ocean again
When I look for your love
Like I'm never enough
I feel the calling from the ocean, the ocean, my friend
Waves swallow me whole
Tides carry me home
Then it hit me like an ocean, an ocean
When I look for your love
Like I'm never enough
I feel the calling from the ocean, the ocean again
When I look for your love
Like I'm never enough
I feel the calling from the ocean, the ocean again
When I look for your love
Like I'm never enough
I feel the calling from the ocean, the ocean, the ocean

Phaedra Phoenix Season 9: Episode 3 - Olympian Symposium
My Olympian chosen by Mel A Tonin, was Artemis, the Greek Goddess of nature, childbirth, wildlife, healing, the hunt, sudden death, animals, virginity, young women, and archery. Due to her being a deity of many things, it was difficult to find a song which incorporated all of those things, especially the juxtaposition of her being a virgin while be associated with childbirth. I looked more into the nature side of things when selecting songs to fit Artemis, as she was primarily associated with nature. For this theme, I decided to choose the song "Isobel" by Icelandic singer Björk, taken from her 1995 album, Post, in which song opens by setting the scene in a forest, somewhere Artemis often roamed around.
Artemis was also associated with her virginity and found be alone powerful, something that Björk's character Isobel represents, as the character is "married to [herself]" and therefore, takes pride into solitude and being without a man. In Ancient Greece, virginity was a precondition to marriage and married women were often seen as property by their husbands.
Artemis was also often surrounded by nymphs, due her being known as the "leader of the nymphs". The lyric of "moth delivers her message", can be interpreted in this way, as moths and other insects can be used to symbolise nymphs.
Within the third verse of the song, there is a lyric "in a tower of steel, nature forges a deal, to raise wonderful hell". This indicates the power of nature and how it can be used to challenge against man made creations. Therefore, this part of the song helps solidify how Artemis is powerful goddess, fuelled by nature and is full of willing and commitment.
Lyrics:
In a forest pitch-dark Glowed the tiniest spark It burst into a flame Like me, like me
My name Isobel Married to myself My love Isobel Living by herself
In a heart full of dust Lives a creature called lust It surprises and scares Like me, like me
My name Isobel Married to myself My love Isobel Living by herself
When she does it, she means to Moth delivers her message Unexplained on your collar Crawling in silence, a simple excuse
Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na
In a tower of steel Nature forges a deal To raise wonderful hell Like me, like me
My name Isobel Married to myself My love Isobel Living by herself
When she does it, she means to Moth delivers her message Unexplained on your collar Crawling in silence, a simple excuse
Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na Na na na, na na

Season 9 - Episode 3 Hermes - "Messenger" by Ioanna Gika
Hermes is known as the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology. He is also associated with travel, trade, and transitions, often depicted with a caduceus (staff) and winged sandals. He moves freely between the mortal and divine realms, making him a bridge between different worlds.
At first I was finding a song about traveling, which is quite hard on its own, then an accidental discovery brought me and the song together. I want to make clear the symbolism and the lyrics as part of my reasoning.
The scenery of the song opens with a vivid image of the horizon rising of an "arched silver line", where someone is "sifting currency on the beach with hands made of sieves" is a strange and symbolic one. Someone is searching for something valuable among the detritus left by the tide when the "crane that has fallen down". The person is lost and is seeking guidance or answers to the questions "Are you the messenger / And is this home?". The person is uncertain. They need answers.
Everything in this song has strong movement and changes, which can be heard by the beat and the tempo changing very often. The lyrics are heavy on themes of movement, transition, and transformation, all of which are central to Hermes' identity. Hermes has gone through many evolutions since his conception as an early, pre-Olympian god. Hermes is the god of transitions (and changing its form) and boundaries (arched silver line).
In most mythological themes, Hermes takes place with the three most basic properties: the messenger, the soul carrier, and the companion and protector, and it can be seen in this song. The person is waiting for "the messenger", or exactly, a piece of information that they have been waiting for. Hermes also appears when "the seafoam are rising up", and the question of "home" touches on Hermes' role in guiding souls to their final resting place. Hermes is also a psychopomp, responsible for guiding the souls of the dead to the underworld. It ties into the idea of belonging and transition. As souls transition from the mortal world to the afterlife, guided by Hermes, this line captures the existential query of whether the afterlife is the ultimate destination, the true "home" for the soul.
~Kuchi-san~ | LYRICS
Cut into an arched silver line Horizon is rising Sifting currency on the beach With hands made of sieves
I see the seafoam rising up From way down Are you the messenger And is this home?
There's a crane that has fallen down Where the salt marsh is growing No more pension for Mother Or my stepdad
I see the seafoam rising up And changing its form Are you the messenger And is this home?

TOYLET SWIFFER SEASON 9 • EPISODE 3 OLYMPIAN SYMPOSIUM Send a song that fits the Olympian god/goddess that was assigned to you.
AURORA Starvation
For the third challenge, I was assigned by my lovely fellow competitor Mel A Tonin the god of fire, volcanoes, metalworking, carpenters, and blacksmiths named Hephaestus. Definitely not my favourite choice thematically since I personally find his story less interesting than others, but regardless here's a quick summary. According to myth, he was the son of Zeus and Hera and unlike the other gods, Hephaestus was born with a physical deformity, and his mother, Hera, threw him from Mount Olympus in shame. He then landed in the sea, where he was rescued and raised by the sea nymph Thetis and the oceanid Eurynome.
Despite his hardships, Hephaestus became a master blacksmith and craftsman, creating weapons, armor, and other items for the gods. He eventually returned to Olympus after Hera heard about his creations and begged him to come back. Hephaestus's marriage to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, was fraught with infidelity on her part, leading to various tales of Hephaestus's cunning and intelligence in dealing with her lovers, especially Ares.
The song I chose for this week is "Starvation" by AURORA. The song addresses the disconnection a person may feel from others, whether that comes from solitude, isolation etc., as well as having the strength to pull through despite that. While reading his story, I figured that Hephaestus fits this because he was thrown and rejected from Olympus from the beginning of his life, yet managed to find resilience and purpose through his craftmanship and by working in isolation, to the point where he was asked to return. The first verse where the song talks about "missing touch of human hands" could also be related to his wife Aphrodite cheating on him. I think the bridge is also one of the most fitting parts to his story as well, and I especially find interesting the "Got a deal with the devil, but I got the stamina" part. The devil in this instance could be Hera who threw him from Olympus but then proposed him to come back, especially since it is said that he gained revenge on her.
Lyrics:
[Verse 1] I miss the touch of human hands on my skin Miss the rush of beauty coming from within Do I need to be torn just to see who will care? I sleep on the floor, dreaming my life away
[Chorus] Why do we have to die For us to see the light? And we hunger for love Why do we touch the knife When we long to feel alive? And we hunger for love And my soul is starving
[Verse 2] Come on over, take a bite of the last apple here on Earth Will the virtual mind become stronger than mine? And when my ego dies, will I stay here forеver? When the wеb crashes down, will my life be better?
[Chorus] Why do we have to die For us to see the light? And we hunger for love And my soul is starving Why do we touch the knife When we long to feel alive? And we hunger for love And my soul is starving
[Bridge] Break me, break me, chasing the enemy Got a deal with the devil, but I got the stamina Higher than anything I've ever seen or been Right now, everything, everything's empty Starving, craving, chasing the remedy I got used to the torture, but no one deserves to be alone Break me, chasing the enemy And my soul is hurting, but I got the stamina
[Chorus] Why do we have to die For us to see the light? We are decorated bones And my soul is starving Why do we have to die For us to see the light? We are decorated bones And my soul is starving
[Outro] (My soul, my soul) (My soul is starving) (I'm dying)
