Last edition in Muscat, Budda Lhendup and Karma Wangyel did not qualify to the semi finals, placing 8th in the quarter final, Bhutan's joint worst result in the Own Asiavision Song Contest. This also meant that Bhutan became the first country to fail the qualify from the quarter final twice. A poll on twitter indicated that the people of Bhutan felt disheartened and humiliated by the country's constant failure in the contest. Viewing figures also dropped lower than that of the 25th edition, where they had been steadily increasing since the country's return in the 23rd edition. This prompted many figures in the country to demand Bhutan's withdrawal from the contest.
The future of Bhutan in the contest Following many calls for Bhutan's withdrawal from many significant figures such as Lama Gyurme and Kunzang Choden, BBS decided to host a televised debate concerning the future of Bhutanese participation. A panel of 3 high profile celebrities who favoured a Bhutanese withdrawal would debate against a panel of 3 other celebrities who wanted Bhutan to keep trying.

Sonam Max Choki Sonam Wangchen Kezang Wangmo Two-Time Representative of Bhutan Popular Bhutanese Singer OASC Runner Up from Bhutan
Sonam Max Choki argued that there is "so much talent in Bhutan, such as upcoming rapper Karma Euden Norbu, and one day Bhutan would reach the final if the delegation puts in 100% effort", however CEO of BBS, Tshering Wangchuk argued that "the financial cost of participating was too much if Bhutan was always going to place in the bottom 3". Choki responded, "participation can't be too much of a financial strain if you only spend $10 on a performance". After 3 hours of heated debate and a glass of water thrown across the room, it was decided that Bhutan will indeed participate in the 27th edition in Fiji.Change in approach to contest Following this decision, BBS held a press conference to discuss what had gone wrong with previous Bhutanese entrants and how these challenges could be overcome. it was decided that an internal selection with 4 songs would take place, with support from other broadcasters. Sonam Max Choki was rumoured to return to the contest, however after she landed the country in the quarter final twice and threw a glass of water at the CEO of BBS, it was decided that another artist will be the Bhutanese representative. After the amazing 2nd place that Mona Haydar and Drea D'Nur brought us in Muscat. Syria can confirm its presence in the 27th edition in Fiji, where our nation will be performing directly in the Grand Final.

Despite Shabnam Surayo getting the 2nd non-qualification for her country, and the worst result for her country so far in the contest, Tajikistan will be present in Fiji. The artist and song have been selected internally, and there are rumours that a returning artist will represent the nation.
