Welcome back to Jamaica! This is the third country in the contest to win twice. The Caribbean awaits us for another wonderful summer edition. The confirmations and submissions period is expected to end in a couple weeks.

As of 4 July 2022, there are currently 55 active players, which means that 0 spots are free. Here is our waiting list. People on the waiting list can get a spot as permanent participants in case any of the 55 currently active players withdraws from the contest. Anyone (waiting list users and non-waiting list users) can claim one of the three remaining free countries and join for one edition as an associate member if we get less than 48 participating countries.
To the 55 active players: please specify whether you're withdrawing for one edition or permanently. Any further questions will be answered by the council.

Puerto Rican entry revealed!

Born and growing up in Galloway Township, New Jersey in a Puerto Rican family, Janesa Jaida Barrett, known professionally as Nessa Barrett is a singer and songwriter. She cites artists like Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, Melanie Martinez, and The Neighbourhood as influences on both her sound and her aesthetic as a musician.

In 2019, Barrett joined the social media platform TikTok, accumulating over 16.5 million followers as of August 2021 and over 197.8 million likes on the platform. Despite difficulties she has faced as a public figure, she explains that she is "very passionate about being authentic and staying true to herself" in the digital realm.

Barrett began her music career in July 2020, when she released her piano-based ballad debut single "Pain". Barrett's debut single was released shortly after signing with Warner Records, the label reaching out and eventually signing her after discovering clips of her singing on TikTok. Barrett continued her music career, intending to embody a "dark, punk rock kind of vibe", with the release of her second single "If U Love Me" in October 2020.

She was selected to represent the nation with her song "Dying on the Inside". We wish her best of luck and hopefully she continue our qualification streak!

Following a second top 6 finish, ironically again in Canada, we will be sending yet another aq to Jamaica. The next  Grenadian representative who will get a chance to fly with our flag to  Jamaica has been found! The Grenadian head of delegation  Miho Muise affirms that the song was officially verified by the GBN broadcasters and the Grenadian song has been confirmed. Now, it may be the time for us to introduce our next entrant.

Meet the artists

Gaika Tavares, known mononomously by his first name, GAIKA, is a rapper, vocalist, writer, activist, and sculptor born in Brixton, South London to parents from Grenada and Jamaica. GAIKA got his start as a member of the Manchester based arts organisation, Murkage Cartel. In the Murkage Cartel, he was one of the creative visionaries, as well as one of the primary vocalists of the collective as a whole. After the Cartel ceased opperations, he went on his own road, merging several genres together in a way that only he has done. Some magazines have dubbed him "electronic music's answer to Basquiat", while he simply refers to the style he creates as "ghettofuturism". He has written several articles as a political essayist, including one describing how important it is to honour the cultures behind major festivities in reference to Notting Hill Carnival, as well as an article bashing the London Metropolitan Police for essentially banning drill music, a style created predominantly by young black men. He will not be alone, as Mexican producer Omar Rodrigo Suarez Machuca, better known as Omaar, will join him on the track.

Meet the entry

As mentioned earlier, GAIKA and Omaar will be representing us. The pair collaborated on GAIKA's 2020 album Seguridad, on two tracks. The one that they'll represent the spice island is entitled "Maria". This track is an alternative electronic bop that will make you dance. If not, you hate small nations and you are basic as hell : bebe :

Grenadian History in OAmSC

The spice island made our debut in the 1st edition of the Own Americavision Song Contest, with Grenadian songstress Laura Lisa's song "Awaken". Sadly, the Americas didn't awaken to the track, netting the nation a last overall finish in our debut edition. Next edition the nation qualified for the first time with Zhavea going to  "Shut It Down", getting a 25th place. Following a non-qualification in E3, Ameena Caesar started a 3 edition qualification streak with "My Way Out", getting the best placement of a Grenadian under the first head of delegation. However, the other 2 in the streak didn't fare well, as both only managed to get 26th. The 3 editions after got progressively worse, with a 13th, 15th and 17th place in the semi respectively. In response, the GBN fired the head of delegation they've had since E1, and took edition 10 off. Going into the 11th edition, they hired the then Saint Lucian head of delegation, and instantly saw better results, with the nation getting an AQ (the nation's first lefthand side finish) with the new delegation's first entry, "I Could Be Yours" by Roses Gabor. Shygirl took the AQ banner in Montreal, where she placed 23rd in the final. Mr Killa followed Shygirl, where he couldn't infect enough of the Americas with "Macopolaritis", placing 14th in the semi. The role of representative was passed back to Shygirl, and this time, she brought Zebra Katz to Canada, with the song "LICK IT N SPLIT", where the duo brought a second AQ to the spice island, with a new record finish of 5th in the final, besting the record set by Roses Gabor, ironically also set in Canada, with the following act, an automatic qualifier, going to Jamaica. That act was Gaika, who brought along Mexican producer Omaar, with the pair finishing xxth in the final.
