My top 20 of
Festival da Canção 2023:
(As of last week)
1.
Esse Povo - Sapatos de Cimento
It is a good song with enjoyable vocals.
2.
Bárbara Tinoco - Goodnight
Another good song that I can't really complain about in any way. She's a cute voice, but over the full song, it also vecomes a bit annoying.
3.
Cláudia Pascoal - Nasci Maria
Well, that's different from her previous entry.
A modern pop song that's fun and enjoyable. The song title is included a bit too often, but this is one of the cases it doesn't bother me.
4.
Teresinha Landeiro - Enquanto é tempo
Beautiful song and voice
5.
Mimicat - Ai Coração
This dong has a somewhat different instrumentation that's still catchy and inviting to clap along. Mimi also can sing - as we know - but here there's something in her vocals bothering me.
6.
April Ivy - Modo Voo
A very 80s sound here that's not done badly, still the song is lacking an actual highlight (hope that's the right word also for a song). Be ause of that ut comes across as a bit flat.
7.
Sal - Viver
It's not a bad song, but the longer it's on, the song becomes annoying.
8.
Voodoo Marmalade - Tormento
It's okay and I particularly like the instrumental.
9.
Inês Apenas - "Fim do Mundo
A very calm song, but in the first and last part it's too calm, I'm afraid. In between it's quite okay and one can actually clap along. It also happens to be a bit messy at times.
10.
Dapunksportif - World Needs Therapy
I like the chorus of this song, but in the verses it's quite powerless.
11.
Edmundo Inácio - A Festa
A rather unspectacular entry, but at least it's some good traditional elements.
12.
Churky - Encruzilhada
This song is quite momotonous I fear ... But towards the end it becomes better. He has a beautiful voice, though!
13.
Lara Li - Funâmbula
Both her vocals as well as the song are beautiful. The whole thing is sadly lengthy af and I wasn't able to listen to the end.
14.
Bolha - Sonhos de Liberdade
It starts off well with traditional elements. In spite of them staying throughout the full song, it sadly doesn't really go anywhere.
15.
You Can't Win, Charlie Brown - Contraste Mudo
This song has its beautiful elements, but overall, it's boring. The vocalist being rather monotonous doesn't quite help it either.
16.
MoYah - Too Much Sauce
Oh, I wasn't expecting a hip hop song here.
Sadly, it's underwhelming, although it's not difficult to go along. Also, what's the song title referring to? I don't mind the song being bilingual English and Portuguese.
17.
Bandua - Bandeiras
It's an original instrumentation, but overall, it is still difficult to listen. The corals being on the annoying side doesn't quite help it either.
18.
Ivandro - Povo
This song gives me basically nothing, and I dislike that voice a lot.
19.
The Happy Mess - O impossível
The male voice is weird. The song has no power, which only contributes to it being lengthy as well.
20.
Neon Soho - "Endless World
This entry is lengthy as well. On top of that, it's also repetitive, and I dislike the singing style.
I'm normally not following Festival da Canção at all, so idk about the song quality in a regular year. This edition is not bad. Most of the songs are in Portuguese and have at least some traditional elements.
Sadly, not all of the entries benefit from that, but to me, at least a bunch of them are enjoyable.
