Söngvakeppni Sjönvarpsins (Northvision 09)

For the third time in a row, RUV will organize the National Selection "Söngvakeppni Sjönvarpsins" that will be held on Sunday, 8th June live from the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik. 

The format will remain more or less the same as in the previous edition: eight songs, but only one winner. Voting method will be 50/50 (Jury & Televoting), but instead of "messages", default points will be used (, , , & points, with two songs getting ) and there won't be international judges, but judges from each of the eight Icelandic regions. 

Jury Panel:

Users can apply for one of the free regions: Höfuðborgarsvæði, Suðurnes, Vesturland, Vestfirðir, Norðurland vestra, Norðurland eystra, Austurland and Suðurland. The placement of each region are shown in the map, with numbers denoting regions in order of their appearance above.

Out of the 73 submitted songs, only 8 were selected to compete on the 8th of June, live in Reykjavik.

Voting Procedure:

The voting style will remain the same for both Jury and Televoting. The 8 jury members and the televoters will have to vote by giving , , , and points to the songs. However, two songs will receive points from each voter.

Results:

As Iceland has now the right to take part in the spin-off "Nordisk Melodi Grand Prix", the second placed of the National Selection will be sent to Torshavn for the contest. The winner will win a monetary prize of 1.000.000 Icelandic Kr. and the right to represent Iceland in the Northvision Song Contest 09, held in Norway.
