台灣 Taiwan will be there of course. And oh, I want to thank everyone who voted for us last edition so we can mark our second best result! 感謝呀! Before I reveal my next entry, I will tell something that willmake you want to hear it (at least I think so) And what I say is: have you ever heard chinese with latvian accent? If not, then you'll hear it soon (most likely tomorrow) And also I want to send it because I want to show my respect to other cultures (this time chinese). All I hope is that at least Gloria will like it That's my goal in this edition Is it in Mandarin? I'm curious too. I don't know about it. I think it should be, because it's the most popular dialect in China, but as I'm not an expert in chinese language, then you'll just have to wait few more hours till I publish the song The song itself is in latvian, but the refrain is in chinese

This is Latvia's surprise for our "neighbour" China (and our entry ofc)! Latvia will be represented by a band called "U.K." And they will sing a song called "Pekinā ir auksti" ("It's cold in Beijing" in english) Please, have a listen: (1:57 onwards) I already want to apologize to Gloria & Wen-hsuan for this video with latvian people "trying" to sing this song (making funny faces), because it's not a way to show your respect, but I hope you can understand their acting, because for us latvians chinese, japanese and korean languages sound a bit funny, that why some of them make funny faces). But that's not meant as an offence or something. The real respect is showed at 3:32-3:38 Here's the pic: This is the best pic I can offer: What this song is about: As the author of this song said: "To tell the truth "It's Cold In Beijing" is a short course in chinese history, culture and politics. It was crazy here in Latvia in Stalin's time, but it was way worse in China. In Máo Zédōng's time in China opera, theater and other cultural entertainment was forbidden. All the previous books were burned and it was allowed to read only "Mao's book". Allowed were only military operas and theater and only one song, which says: "East is getting red and sun is rising, Mao appears over the China". The refrain of this song means: "I know that East is getting red, I know that sun rises, but why it's so cold in my heart?". I hope Gloria or Wen-hsuan can confirm that what they said really is the truth It will be hard for me to translate the whole lyrics, but if you want, then I can do it (hopefully).

Oh yeah an interesting song, and yes a surprise To be honest I'm not sure if "The Red East" was the only song allowed at that time. I'll ask my father tomorrow because he lived through a good part of the Mao Age. Mao was one of the most important people to the founding of New China in 1949, so it's no wonder that he was highly respected even if he seemed to be leading an oppressive regime. So much about the political topic.
