Dýria responds to recent events in the Fantasia World

- Coups in both Ermy and Maronesia

The head of the department of foreign affairs, Siobhán Janasdóttir has stated that Dýria will not be involved in the conflict, however on behalf of the entire nation we send our deepest condolences to all those who got effected in the uprisings.

Subsequently, all flights to Ermy and Maronesia are grounded until further notice. A travel warning has been put in place for both countries and people from Dýria are strongly advised not to travel there. Those affected by this and have no way of getting home will be offered temporary accommodation. This includes tourists and natives who wish to travel back home. President Egilsdóttir has responded to the coups stating that the aftermath is worrying and that a solution must be found immediately."

Eldance wildfire
Dýria stands with Eldance during this time and although there have been no casualties just yet, we hope there will be none in the aftermath of these wildfires.

Lidonia

Dýrian president Ingibjörg Egilsdóttir has approved of the motion to finally host elections in the country. After her visit to Lidonia a few weeks ago, she stated that: It is very exciting and an extremely positive outcome. Hopefully with these elections Lidonia will not be in any more turmoil and the country will be able to operate with a stable government.

Perhaps the most trending picture in Dýria right now is the new baby Lanovian panda. It captured the hearts of many in the country and is possibly the cutest thing that has been seen in 2017.

Dýria recognizes Inotyol, Juliana and Llort as independent nations

The Dýrian government have confirmed that they have recognized the nations of Inotyol, Juliana and Llort as independent nations, welcoming into the world and hoping that relations will be established as soon as possible, although the president has stated that she wishes to allow the countries to settle into the Fantasia world first before making a move.

Change of flag in Orangina!

The Oranginian government has after many discussions decided to change the Flag of Orangina. There have been many drafts, but the final version is now ready. The change of the flag has been a controversial topic within the Oranginian population, but the referendum earlier this year proved that 62,2% of the population was in favor of a flag change, while 10,5% stayed neutral. The rest of the population were obviously against it. The government's reason for the change is that Orangina has for a very long time been going through a change and will, therefore, use a flag which represents today's Orangina. The colours remain the same, but each of them symbolizes one important thing each.

Blue symbolizes the ocean which has been important for Orangina in terms of transportation as well as resources.
Red symbolizes the sunset and the midnight sun which is something Orangina is known for. This also attracts tourists to the country.
Orange, on the other hand, symbolizes the people of the country which has contributed to building up Orangina as a wealthy and stable country which it is today.

However, the diagonal cross has been replaced with a circle which symbolizes the sun. An anchor similar to the ones in the flags of Lanovina and Fordia has been added as well to symbolize the fact that Orangina is located in the North. You might also notice the anchor is orange, which means that the anchor symbolizes People of the North.

Evämaian Government Responds to the Events of 13 August

MIDIMERI - While today's elections in Evämaa thankfully proceeded without incident (results to follow soon!), the outgoing President, Topi Niinisalo gave a statement on the steps of the Maidentalo ahead of the polls closing. In the speech, he gave the official responses of the Evämaian Government to the events that have unfolded across Fantasia today.

Ermian and Maronesian Coups

These two events are, of course, deeply unsettling in terms of the use of violence. However, like in past incidents, Evämaa will officially stay neutral on the issues facing the United Islands of Ermy and Maronesia. We seek to maintain diplomatic connections with the current governments of the two countries for as long as they would like.

In addition, President Niinisalo reaffirmed any citizens of UI Ermy and Maronesia who were in Evämaa that they would not be expelled from the country, but advised against anyone traveling to those countries until the situations deescalate. Koillisair has also cancelled all flights to UI Ermy indefinitely, and instead has increased the flights going to Eastern Lakadamia. 

Harish Islands School Bombing

Regardless of if an attack has or has not taken place, we stand by the people of the Harish Islands who are affected by the events unfolding in their country today. I speak for all of Evämaa when I say that we hope this event is not indicative of worse things that could happen in the future.

As news broke during the voting period in Evämaa, exit pollsters began asking voters about which bit of news was most upsetting to them. The Maronesian coup garnered the most concern from Evämaians, with the Ermian coup and Harish school bombing following close behind. However, many voters said that they were sorry for the citizens of those countries, but unconcerned with the events, since they have high confidence in the Evämaian government to protect the country.

Lidonian Transition

It's always a joy to see a country return to democracy, and the Government of Evämaa extends warm regards to the new transitional government of Lidonia. We've offered to help them organize elections at their convenience and to support them as their emerge from a period of military rule.

Eldance Wildfire

Evämaa officially stands with the United States of Eldance as they fight against a devastating wildfire affecting their country. I've made available relief resources should the Eldancan Government choose to accept them. 

Later in the speech, President Niinisalo called for greater efforts to fight climate change, saying that the region of Eldance that was affected had been in a severe drought for years, and that without careful efforts to preserve the planet, Evämaa, which is covered in 85% forests, could deal with a similar catastrophe.

After addressing the birth of a new baby panda in Lanovina and congratulating the Government of Fordia on a successful election, President Niinisalo began his final remarks as the President of Evämaa. He thanked the country for letting him lead Evämaa through a prosperous eight years, which saw expansions of protections to minorities and investments in technological infrastructure, which have lead Evämaa to be called the "Technological Heaven of Fantasia" by the UNF. Finally, he left a word of advice to his successor, who will be chosen in two weeks:

As the events of today prove, this is not the most hopeful time Fantasia has ever seen. The person who steps into this office after me will have the enormous responsibility of leading our country into this uncertain future, but I trust the people of Evämaa to choose the right person for the job. I hope that our prosperity continues and that we never succumb to an atrocity like those that have beset Fantasia in the past few years. Thank you for these eight years.

President Niinisalo retired to the Maidentalo to officially clear out his office and vacate the position while the new Government of Evämaa forms in the coming two weeks.

VOLCANO FINALLY ERUPTS IN JAREA
After 2 months of continuous tremors and a lava dome bulging on the flank of the Suodoon volcano, today the volcano finally erupted.
Jarean volcanologists say the eruption occured at 13:21pm local time and has erupted at 6 on the VEI (Volcano Explosivity Index)
Luckily only 10 scientists were hurt, with flying lava bombs hitting a camera crew and the scientists they were with. A pyroclastic flow also occurred, however scientists had predicted where it would be and had set up an exclusion zone around that area with absolutely no access to at all, due to the volcanos unpredictability.

The pyroclastic flow has destroyed around 100km of natural forest around the volcano, meaning that a massive clean up operation will have to start once the area is deemed safe so that it can be restored to its natural state. However, during the eruption around 250 million cubic metres of fine ash has been catapulted into the atmosphere, making it so that it will be carried over very long distances by the wind. The Jarean scientists have made the following map to show those nations at risk, especially those west of the island as the wind direction over Niatua is West, with some going to the North currently:

The Jarean government advises all nations who might be affected by the ash cloud to close their airspaces down in the interests of passenger safety.

EVÄMAA DECIDES
Paasi & 98 Arvotit Split Maidentalo, Leftists Go to Presidential Runoff, Evämaa says "No" to Nordos

MIDIMERI - For the first time in over 80 years, Evämaa will be controlled by a right-wing government. After an election that saw 63% of the electorate cast valid votes, for a total of 4,820,106 votes, Paasi and 98 Arvotit both saw gains that tied them with the most seats in the Maidentalo, at 17 apiece. Vasakollektiivit collapsed completely, losing five seats and being shut out of power, as the winning parties have announced their plans to form a coalition with every right-wing party. Because Paasi received the most votes overall, they have assumed leadership, and their leader, Aatto Seppänen, has taken over as Speaker of the House from Otto Kurkelä, and will begin forming the new government over the next two weeks. The new seat distribution in the Maidentalo looks like this:



The polls were generally seen to be accurate, aside from underestimating the collapse of the far-left. Despite picking up a seat, Evämaen Edistymis will also be exiting power at the expense of Puolustajianen. As the largest party on the left, they’re expected to begin assembling the other parties and preparing to enter into opposition. The full results of the election are posted below:



Meanwhile, the first round of the Presidential Election saw slightly fewer votes than the Maidentalo, 4,271,380. Presidential candidates have been campaigning independently of the Maidentalo candidates and do not align with a party until they take office, with almost every president in Evämaian history choosing to align with the ruling party of the Maidentalo. However, the two top vote getters of the public, former Speaker of the House from 2011-2013 Miikka Hahl and Premier of Suurislen Tuuli Myllyä, are both markedly left-wing. Hahl aligned himself with Vasakollektiivit during his time in the Maidentalo and Premier Myllyä is currently a member of Evämaen Edistymis. Both were noted to have shifted toward the center during their campaigns, and with Paasi leading the new government, it’s expected that Myllyä will win in the Maidentalo. Finally, the results of the Nordos referendum saw Evämaa break step with other Northern Union countries by rejecting the currency change by a wide margin. This election had 4,521,033 votes cast in it, and 64% of those votes were to keep the Evämaian Kulden. Speaker and President Pro Tempore Seppänen has said that the new government will work with the Northern Union to determine how to move forward.

  Zica virus: three returning Fordian travellers diagnosed  

All of them had returned to Fordia from Aquia, where they had been infected via mosquito bites

Three travellers who returned to Fordia from Aquia have been diagnosed with the Zica virus, a mosquito-borne illness that has been linked to brain deformities in babies. Public Health Aquia said in a statement on its website the three people had presented with the virus after travelling to  Poránea, the northern Aquian region which is experiencing Zica outbreaks.

The statement said Zica “does not occur naturally in Fordia” and said it can be transmitted only from the bite of a mosquito or, in rare cases “through sexual transmission or by transmission from mother to foetus via the placenta”.  It does “not spread directly from person to person”, the statement said. 

The three cases are believed to be the first to be confirmed inside the country. 

While the symptoms of Zica itself tend to be mild – they include joint pain and a rash – scientists believe it is linked to microcephaly, or abnormally small brains, in newborns. As a result, authorities in Aquia have advised women against becoming pregnant during the outbreak. 

Zica is a mosquito-borne virus that was first isolated from a monkey in the Zica forest in Poránea in 1947. The first important outbreak occurred in July 2017, when a case was reported in Aquia. Since then the disease hadn't spread to any other country before, this situation is disturbing for international health.

There is no vaccine to combat Zica, meaning the only way for travellers to protect themselves is to avoid getting bitten by a mosquito.

Metro explosion leaves 13 dead and dozens wounded!

13 people have been killed and 34 injured in an explosion between two underground stations in Clearbourne.

The head of Katsyria's National Anti-Terrorist Committee said the blast hit a train between Merrybrook and Diplo stations.
The committee said an explosive device was later found and made safe at another station nearby.
It is expected that the explosion was a "terrorist attack".
An anti-terror investigation has been opened, but other possible causes are being investigated.

The first images posted on social media showed a train at a platform in Merrybrook station with a number of casualties.
Initial reports suggested there had been two explosions, one each at Merrybrook and Diplo stations.
The Katsyrian National Anti-Terrorist Committee later confirmed there had been only one explosion, between the two stations, at about 15:48 local time (20:48 UTC).

The suspicions are likely to focus on two possible suspects, neither nationality yet confirmed.
Authorities are worried, especially that the attack came the next day after the two coups in Ermy and Maronesia.

Clearbourne is the third largest city in Katsyria.
City's metro system is one of the busiest in the country with more than two million passengers every day, but it has not suffered attacks before.

COMMUNISM VS ERMY?
On 14 August, Apostolis Hoe attended a United Nations Security Council meeting in Lakadamia and made a speech, in which he stated that Ermy is under attack. The newly established regime has been described as an extremist puppet regime of the Maronesian junta. On 15 August, between 8 am and 9 am, the coup leaders proclaimed their victory on the state channel of Ermy's 'Television of Ermy', saying "The national guard intervened in order to solve the problematical situation. The new government 'made' censored the press and left-wing newspapers stopped being printed, Apostolis did not openly announce his intention of enosis in the days following the coup. However, the tiny islands of Ermy are on their hardest time, we all want Fantasia's and especially Lakadamia's help.

New details about the explosion in Clearbourne!

The explosion happened last night in Clearbourne's underground, between 2 metro stations.
After investigating the cameras at the respective stations and after analyzing every suspect, the authorities have named the attacker.
His name is Ixion Demetrios, a 22 year old   Ermy-born man who held Katsyrian citizenship.

DNA analysis confirmed that remains found at the scene belonged to Demetrios, Katsyrian authorities said in a statement.
His DNA was also found on a second, unexploded device found at another station, suggesting he was acting alone rather than with an accomplice.
Images provided by police to Katsyrian television channels and redistributed by Reuters, which purport to show Demetrios, show a young man in a red parka and carrying a rucksack walking through a metro station.

Ermian and Katsyrian media, citing anonymous Katsyrian sources, said that he moved to Clearbourne with his family from Ermy in 2011.
His family moved back to Ermy while he remained in Katsyria.

He has been taken by police and he is in a temporary arrest for 30 days.
The attack has been qualified as a coup attempt from new communist movements which started in Ermy.
This is why the borders of the country are being kept closed and all suspicious people are banned from entering the country, at least until the situation calms down.
