Welcome to Phoenix, Arizona!
This is the official location for the 2nd annual 50 States Of Song contest, which is set to begin in mid-January of next year (2017). This is a contest in which 50 songs, from each of the 50 U.S. states (plus Puerto Rico) compete for the grand prize.
--------------
This is an OPEN CALL thread for any suggested entries for this year's contest!
--------------
The "Main" Rules. PLEASE READ:
- Songs must not be longer than 3 minutes, 30 seconds.
- The artist should be from the US state they represent, or have strong connections to that state (like, they grew up there.)
- Songs must have been "officially" released during the previous year (2016). Officially, meaning the CD release or the music video
- The artist must be 14 years or older as of 2016
- It's preferred that the song has some kind of music video release
- Charts Rule: The artist cannot have had a Top 40 hit on any of the following Billboard charts prior to the date of the contest:
The Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Pop Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Hot Country Songs, Hot Rock Songs, or Hot Latin Songs.
- The reason we enforce the Charts Rule is because we want lesser-known artists participating. Go away, Lady Gaga!
- The song must be originally composed/produced. No covers!

What's the purpose of this contest, exactly? Well, you have the chance to represent one (or more) of the states that will take part. Suggest any song that meets the rules above. You can suggest as many entries as you want, for multiple states, multiple songs for one state... whatever! We'll figure out what to do if we get a bunch of entries for a single state (some kind of vote).
Why do I care? Unlike most other music contests on this forum, any person here has a chance to participate, and any person can vote. You don't have to have a song in the contest to vote! If your song does get chosen to represent one of the states, you will represent their final vote in the official contest. So, we need at least 25 voters.
We also get attention from artists in the contest - despite any contest history - so that's kinda neat.

Indiana: bit.ly/2g76LjE
Mississippi: bit.ly/2g5UIzl

America is stupid right now! Yeah, I know... :/ any room in Europe? Humor me

There is myself and a couple other people (they don't have accounts here) who are running the contest behind the scenes, making sure we have a song for each of the States. This year's format changes a little bit: there will be two semifinals of 25 states. These include 49 states plus Puerto Rico (which should be a State anyways.) 12 qualify from each, and then there's one Grand Final of 25 states (the 24 entries + Arizona).
So, what say you? Let the search for songs begin!!
