Confirmations have closed
Greensboro - Unfortunately only 4 states confirmed within the (extended) deadline of the contest. Because of that I had to think about the future of this edition and this contest. Because I really like the idea behind this contest I quickly decided that I don't wanna let this contest die. I saw two possibilities with this contest:
1. Extend the deadline for this contest until we will have a decent amount of participants. 2. Change the structure of this contest so that it is still functional even with this little amount of participants.
Possibility number one was quickly ditched because extending the deadline over and over again will probably not bring any more contestants as of right now. With that said I thought about how I can change the format of the contest so that it works with a small amount of participants and after a bit of thinking and trying several ideas I came up with the following new structure:
From now on all 50 states plus the added territories of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands (might be extended in further editions) will participate in every edition. The US will be split into four regions: 1. The West 2. The Midwest 3. New England 4. The South and the Territories Because the original regions don't quite form a nice dividing of the country, some of the states were put into a region were the name doesn't quite fit. The final result looks like this:
Each region will have its own Semi-Final. All the thirteen states compete in the Semi with five of the states qualifying to the Grand Final which will consist of a total of 24 countries. The best state out of each region will be an Automatic Qualifier for the following edition. If we have 5 or less confirmed participants in one edition, these states will become Automatic Qualifiers. If we have more than 5 but less than 11 confirmed participants, the Top 5 participants will be Automatic Qualifiers. The voting process will change as well: Every participant will vote in each Semi-Final. The Automatic Qualifiers will decide one act from their assigned Semi-Final that will qualify no matter where they land in the end. If we have less than 10 confirmed participants, you can either send two different sets of votes OR have your votes count double. If we have less than 5 confirmed participants, you have to send two sets of votes AND we will have an additional set of votes provided by random.org. The Rest of the Rules will still be in place.
Because we only have four participants this edition, the Automatic Qualifiers are: Hawaii Illinois New York North Carolina Conveniently the AQs are from the four different regions, which means they are assigned to their regions. The Semi-Finals look like this:
I will start making the recap videos tomorrow. If you don't like the new format, but you already confirmed I would appreciate it if you could vote nonetheless.
