First semi-final



Hello, I am Sara La Fountain. Welcome to Masterch... Suomen Rauta Festivaalit, our Finnish selection for Mysterious Song Contest. We have selected ten entries, and tonight we are going to discover the five first songs. The two or three most popular songs of each semi-final will reach the Grand Final. It is time to discover the draw for the first semi-final.

Firstly, we have a brand new song by a quite old Finnish rock band. The Rasmus became famous with their international hit "In the Shadows" in 2003. Five years after their last album, they are back and enter in competition with a strong melodic rock entry, "Wonderman".



The name of the following group is a torture for non-Finnish people: Tuure Kilpeläinen Ja Kaihon Karavaani. Tuure Kilpeläinen is the leader of this poprock Finnish band. They will sing "Autosiaari", a very entertaining reggae entry with a mythical choreography!



Now we have The Dark Element. This new melodic metal band is born by the association between the former Nightwish vocalist Anette Olzon together with Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen.
Their song is called "My sweet Mystery".



Who's next? Oh, we really like her! Please warmly welcome Christel Martina Sundberg aka Chisu, a 35 year old pop singer. She will sing for us "Tuu mua vastaan", a magnetic association between her sweet voice and electro pop instrumentals.

 

We will finish our first semi-final with Angel Nation, a British melodic metal band fronted by the soprano singer Elina Siirala, whose voice is quite similar to Sharon von Adel's. They are going to interprete "Burn the Witch", a quite soft entry with an efficient chorus.

Second semi-final



We are back for the second semi-final of Suomen Rauta Festivaalit! First of all, let's have a look on the results of the first semi-final. Angel Nation finished first with 10 votes, followed by The Rasmus and The Dark Element (both with 9 votes). Then we have Tuure Kilpeläinen Ja Kaihon Karavaani with 6 votes and finally Chisu (5 votes). Considering the gaps between the contestants, we decided that the three rock entries would reach the Grand Final. Congratulations to them!



Now let's discover the last five entries in competition. 

Here are Beast in Black, a metal band founded by the guitarist Anton Kabanen after he got fired decided to leave Battle Beast. The other members are Yannis Papadopoulos (front singer), Kasperi Heikkinen (guitar), Mate Molnar (bass) and Sami Hänninen (drums). They begin this semi-final with their first single that they recently released: "Blind and frozen".



The next song begins with these words: "They say we are crazy people. But actually we're not. We are just from Finland." Well, we cannot say that every Finnish people are like them... But you must be warned that you will either love or hate this song. Click on the button "play" only when you are sure to be perfectly ready. Otherwise, you could have a serious psychological trauma...
Here are the Portion Boys with "Loma"!



Anni Ellinoora Leikas aka Ellinoora is not like them. She is 24 years old and she is from Oulu, a quite big city on the west coast. Her song "Elefantin paino" is a beautiful ballad. The beginning of the song is slow while the end is more dynamic.



There are many reasons to love the next entry. One of them is the voice of Noora Louhimo (frontsinger of Battle Beast) - by the way, you must be prepared to what happens at 0:44. Another reason is that "Black Ninja" is an excellent autoparody. In the lyrics, for example, we have the sentence: "She's a black ninja/You can't see her in the night". Of course, she is wearing a black suit! The comments on YouTube are also very funny.



And last but not least, the pop rock group Haloo Helsinki! is also in competition. Their last entry "Tuntematon" is slower than their previous singles but Eili Haloo's wonderful voice is still there. This song refers to "those who fell" (during the wars) and is a message of peace.

Grand Final



This is the moment we were waiting for! The Grand Final! But before the beginning, let's have a look on the results of the second semi-final. They are pretty clear: two contestants finished on top with a quite large gap: the bands Beast in Black (8 votes) and Haloo Helsinki! (7 votes). Let's thank Ellinoora (5 votes), Battle Beast (5 votes) and Portion Boys (2 courageous votes) for their participation.

Before the Grand Final even begins, we can announce that Finland will be represented at MSC #36 by a rock band! They were six in competition, and five of them are in Grand Final right now!

Now, it's your time for the final vote! You can give one vote for your favourite song (it will get 2 points) and one additional vote for your second choice (it will get 1 point). The song with the biggest total wins!
