Tulen Darussalam Reports Increase in Crime

With in the past few months crime in Tulen Darussalam has risen by 32%! This has resulted in the country's police forces being strained and have even lead to minor involvement of the Royal Army. Let's see what crime has been causing this problem.


Murder and Kidnappings

The Rise of Murder and Kidnappings in the country has always been a problem with the primary targets being immigrants and upper class citizens. With few cases of tourists being kidnapped and m*rded. These Kidnappings are often for ransom and murder is only carried out when the ransom requirements are not met.

Corruption

Ever since the war which lead to the unification of Tule Darussalam there has been serious corriissues with the countries governing body. This has lead to the people in power only being there for the money with the country seeing staggered improvement in aspects such as healthcare and safety which seriously lack behind countries of similar population.

Human Trafficking and Drug Crime
The trade of drugs has never seen any market in Tulen Darussalam as it does not appeal to the population however a slight increase yet notable increase has been seen in the trade of drugs in the central mountain region of the country. However the trade was ended when 5 military personnel on standard duty cought a group of people trading Cannabis which is only permitted for medical usage. The approximate group of 9 were taken into custody with an alleged 5 facing capital punishment.

On the other hand with human trafficking many of the population in Tulen Darussalam sit below the poverty line and as the country has seen a steady decline these people have seemed to human trafficking to move to the richer neighbouring country Katsyria and Llort

CONSTITUTIONAL REFORM IN KHORIZEM

QUMEKHSH - Today marks a victory for the incumbent Socialist Unity Party in Khorizian politics today as by a margin of 62.4% to 37.6%, the Khorizian citzenry voted to abandon their long-standing policy of isolationism and autarkic economic policy, now seeking to establish more well-defined international relations with its neighbours both in Serica and beyond. 

The plebiscite passed the 60% supermajority needed for enactment, and garnered support from 26 of the 32 regional zoviyets (union's councils) nationwide. 

Advocates for the referendum hope that this will allow greater foreign relations and begin to put the country on the world map, competing in more international events such as the FANA World Cup, and the Fantasia Contest. Those who wished against the move feared this could lead to external intervention in domestic affairs, alongside a shift in economic fortunes, and among conservatives, immigration. However, the government claims that they will not officially open its relations outwards until a full outline of a new system is agreed by the zoviyets and the people in multiple rounds of public vote.

Baffin is an island nation located in North Serica, made up of 4 islands: Dyflinn, Eldaginn, Sapphire and Strigiformes. The capital, Bluelight, is located on Dyflinn Island, the easternmost island.

Baffin's native people, the Ojibwashinaa (real life: the Anishinaabe people), sailed from Northern Flirskmasto and landed in Strigiformes Island, the smallest and westernmost of the islands. They later inhabited Eldaginn Island, the biggest island in Baffin. Centuries later, colonists from Evergreen, US Eldance and Decoria claimed an island each, those being Sapphire, Eldaginn and Dyflinn, respectively. Once Dyria gained independence, they were given control of Dyflinn Island. They named it "Dyflinn" after their capital, Dyflinnjaborg. In the summer of 1919, protests started happening in Eldaginn and Sapphire islands, demanding independence. It spread to Dyflinn Island, though, not as strongly. Those three islands finally gained independence on August 17, 1920, with Strigiformes Island deciding to join the newly-formed Baffin.

The official languages of Baffin are Everish and Indigann, with Everish being the most spoken. Baffin also has 3 recognized minority languages, those being Astalan, Lakadamian and Ojibwashinaa.

Foreign Relations Update
On August 20, 2024, Baffin met with Hikyoto and established relations. Hikyoto's embassy is located in Bluelight. No visa is required to enter either country.

Host City Revealed
On August 30, 2024, OBMACT revealed the host city for the October Festival. 5 cities had been shortlisted, with Taurinno emerging as the winner. Preparations have started already. Baskets will be revealed at a later time, sometime in the first two weeks of September.

What is October Festival?
October Festival is a month-long festival that runs exclusively in Baffin. It is not related to Oktoberfest. October Festival is all about friends, loved ones and winning. Throughout the month of October, people can participate in the all-around tournament, where you have to gather as many points as you can before the end of the month. You can gather points by doing many different tasks, visiting places, etc. There is also a nationwide scavenger hunt, with a few select players being able to take part in it. The host city that is revealed is where the scavenger hunt starts and ends.

Baffin met with both Ydiwealth and Qasentria and established relations. We started trade with Qasentria.

Baskets Revealed
On September 5, 2024, OBMACT revealed the baskets for October Festival. They are the following: 

Iris - The Iris represents wisdom, hope, trust and new beginnings. During the Iris Basket, individuals are encouraged to wear purple, in honor of the Dwarf Lake Iris, the national flower of Baffin.

Gemstone - The national gemstone, the Eldaginn greenstone (real life: Isle Royale greenstone), encapsulates the beauties of nature.

Moon - The moon represents the cycle of life.

Cafe - Cafes, restaurants and diners all share the qualities many Baffiners love most: good food and a friendly community.

What are Baskets?
In the October Festival, baskets are themed events. It comes from a tradition during Independence Day where people would gift each other baskets full of snacks, flowers and other small items. Mini Baskets last three days, from Wednesday to Friday. Regular Baskets last a week, from Tuesday to Monday. These themed events are chosen to represent different stuff from around Baffin, with the intent of inciting patriotism, celebration of culture and unity.

Foreign Relations Update
On September 7, 2024,  Baffin met with Acharovia and established relations.

Small Forest Fire
On September 8, 2024, a forest fire was set in the state of Yttrunium, near the city of Osadale. It spread to southeastern Tuthazod. Both states managed to get it under control and put it out in about 3 days. An investigation was launched by both Yttrun and Tuthan police, with the suspect being found in only 5 hours.

It was discovered that Lynn Tabor, an Osadale local, had set fire to the forest because she saw a squirrel steal her earrings. In her court trial, she stated, "Those earrings are very precious, they were my mom's! I thought it would be a good idea to set fire to the squirrel's house, as revenge." Lynn was given a 3-year jail sentence and multiple therapy sessions.

Election Shock
The state of Montfort held its elections for governor on September 9th. Current governor Kevin Singh was expected to win, but it was announced that a candidate called "Stan Yseult" had won with a 73% majority vote. It was later revealed that 'Stan Yseult' was submitted by a 17-year-old from the Montfortian capital of Alsina. The 17-year-old, Phoenix Tomlin, was interviewed by Baffin News. This was their statement:

"I wanted something different in Montfortian politics. Everyone was tired of seeing Kevin Singh govern for the past 6 years, but I don't think anyone would be able to win against Singh and his little bribery tactics. So, I submitted my candidacy during Calculus class, as a joke. I wasn't expecting anything of it, until I saw 'Stan Yseult' on the voting ballot my dad had left out. I'm still shocked that I won the election."

According to an old document from Montfortian legislation, governors and state officials can run for office if they are at least 17 years old. Phoenix Tomlin will be the youngest Baffiner governor ever and the first non-binary governor in Baffin.

A Hero's Welcome to an Unlikely Hero

Singing Man Namisentria 7 winner Iolanda Costa (competing as iolanda) mid-performance at the Torcell Arena in Estambla

Following not just the incredible ratings boost that the QBA's primary channel had during Singing Man Namisentria 6, but also the continued success that the winners have had in the Fantasia Contest, Singing Man Namisentria returned with a bang. Not only did Qasentrian-Aquian singer iolanda break the record for points received in the national final, being the first artist to break the 100 point mark, but also became the most successful Qasentrian artist at the Fantasia Contest. 

Prior to the 35th edition, Qasentria made only one appearance in the final. This was back in the 28th edition, where Nekota Netako finished in 9th place with "Minimize." iolanda made it 8 straight qualifications for Qasentria, and managed to finish in 7th place, a mere 7 points from finally bringing Qasentria their first automatic qualification to next edition's final. 

Her participation in Singing Man Namisentria came as a bit of a shock to many Qasentrian netizens, as a song that wasn't in an officially recognised language of Qasentria had not been included in the national final before. When asked about the inclusion of iolanda, the QBA's Director of Program Coordination Nzabava Fatoumata Asifiwe said, "I mean, if Wilfried [ Lova Lova, the Qasentrian representative in the 33rd edition of the Fantasia Contest] was able to place a singular point away from the top 10 with a song in a language that's only spoken regionally in Qasentria, why shouldn't we showcase our incredible artists from all aspects of Qasentrian culture?" 

Aquian is spoken in Qasentria by a large Aquian community in Willowbrook. When iolanda came home from Torlova, which she stayed longer than anticipated due to a large demand for her performances in the nation, leading to an impromptu tour of Torlova, parties lasted for multiple days to celebrate her. Mayor of Willowbrook, Carolina-Adelaide Souza Coelho, declared that the 12th of August would be iolanda Day in the city. The celebrations were also present in Marianne, with her alma matter, Sarnia College of the Arts, dedicating their songwriting building as the Iolanda Costa Songwriting Pavilion. 

While this means that the soonest we could see another member of that Aquian songwriting community is in edition 38, the growing influence of minority communities in Qasentria's participation in the contest could see more pushback from conservative politicians. 

Singing Man Namisentria 9 Rumours

Eagle-eyed netizens in Marianne have noticed a large number of politicians and community leaders from Ceris and St. Ann have been filing in and out of the QBA's main headquarters in LaSalle, Marianne. Two of these politicians are Ayanna Webster-Roy (EIS, Iacos & Scarborough) and Shamfa Cudjoe (ÉTR, Valsyan). The pair have been prominent advocates for the highlighting and preservation of Eisan arts and culture on the international stage. When Cudjoe was asked about these recent meetings, she acknowledged that they happened, but refused to divulge any information. Webster-Roy said the exact same, but specified that she met with Asifiwe specifically. 

This revelation seems to indicate that Qasentria's participation in Singing Man Namisentria 9 would have a heavy Eisan influence. This caused fellow House of Swallows representative Brian Shaw (RPC, Aires) to say that the QBA is racist, and doesn't want to have "true Qasentrians competing, pushing our nation to be more woke than it already is." When asked about Shaw's comments, Asifiwe laughed, and said, "I love that everything I don't like is woke. It's my favourite flavour of shitpost." Shaw has been reprimanded numerous times in the past for racist comments in the House of Swallows, and was threatened with having his positions in the government stripped before. 

When Kwak Chaeyoung, Director of Live Events, was asked about this, she declined to comment. Head of Delegation Homma Miho also didn't answer the question directly, but did say that the Eisan community has brought their a game for this submission period, and are making it hard to turn all of them down.

Baffin met with both Dýria and Werdiana and established relations. We started trading with Dýria.

Concert Tours
Singers Elinborg and Lova Lova announced that they will be on tour around Baffin. Elinborg told Baffin News that her last concert of the tour, located in The Rapids, will have Lova Lova performing alongside her.

Lova Lova was also interviewed by Baffin News about his upcoming concert tour. Here's what he said:
"After Qasentria [and Baffin] established relations, I thought it would be a good idea to do a small tour. I'm getting popular in Baffin, probably from my song "Mambu." I also have many YouTube comments begging me to do a concert in Baffin, it only makes sense to! Besides, it's a good excuse to visit [Baffin]."

Improvement in the Capital
Earlier this week, there was a city council meeting about improving the condition of the nation's capital, Bluelight. Most complaints were about the small amount of public bike racks and the mediocre quality of the underground subway. A vote was held, with 85% of the city council members voting in favor of improvement. More public bike racks will be added during the first full week of November and the subway will get their improvements starting in December.
