Willkommen zu der Deutsche Auswahl !
First of all, thank you for your votes in previous edition, so we're going to have our next representative directly qualified to the Grand Final in Iceland! We have selected four possible entries, and you'll be able to choose between them. The rule is very simple: vote for your favourite song (it will get 2 points) and your second favourite (it will get 1 point). The song with the highest amount of points wins!
Let's introduce our contestants...
Sarah Lesch is a 32 year old singer-songwriter from Altenburg (near Leipzig). She has a very original style and plays ukulele. Her song is Da Draussen (There Outside), an entry with high quality lyrics. The main idea of the song is that Sarah perhaps can't solve the problems of our world (violence, wars...) but she can make it a bit better by writing songs. Here is the translation of the lyrics that are lightened in the video:
Ich weiss, dass man die Angst vergisst, wenn man singt: I know that people forget their fear when they sing
Mut heisst nicht, keine Angst zu haben: Courage doesn't mean being fearless
Weniger ich, mehr wir: Less I, more we
Ich weiss keine Lösung, nur Lieder: I don't know any solution, only songs.
The next singer also comes from former East Germany. Franziska Wiese is 31 years old and she has roots in a little town near the Polish border. She became famous two years ago with her hit Ich bin frei and she is back with a new album. With Ich tanz im Regen (I'm dancing in the rain), we discover a new Franziska. Her violin is still there but the romantic and a bit shy girl has become a femme fatale who clearly claims the title of new princess of German Schlager.
Born in Frankfurt in 1993, the next candidate has spent most of her early life in Canada. Alice Merton now shares her life between Germany and United Kingdom. The guilty pleasure (at least) is guaranteed with her latest song Lash Out. She says in the lyrics that she intends to start a riot... Well, we can at least say that she dropped a bomb on the European pop rock stage.
Our selection would be incomplete without a metal entry. Here comes the band Beyond the Black (formed in 2014 in Mannheim) with their brand new song Million Lightyears. The frontsinger Jennifer Haben (23 years old) shows us that there is definitely a place for mezzo soprano voices in symphonic metal bands.
