"Quarrel" by Moses Sumney
3:13+
"Quarrel" is a song about power. Written aboard a cruise ship Sumney was on focusing on climate change, he was startled to find that many of the attendees were passionate about the climate but very dismissive of racial discrimination from even existing. Sumney wrote the song about the dynamic between two groups on such an abstract subject. He says not to "call it a lover's quarrel" because it is not something to be uninvolved in.
Musically, the song is very timid and soft for the first half, before shifting to a dramatic instrumental sound in the second half. The Harp is one of the predominant instruments used in the first half of the song, but also makes an appearance in the second half. The harp is used to convey peacefulness and serenity in the second half, the prelude for the large conflict to come in the remaining portion of the song.
| LYRICS
He who asks for much Has much to give I don't ask for much Just enough to live But in the light Morning will reveal the spoils of night Through the walls of Jericho Lies a heart of stone With you, half the battle Is proving that we're at war I would give my life just for the privilege to ignore
Don't call it a Lovers' Quarrel Don't call it a Lovers' Quarrel
To whom much is given Much is required Luxurious liver You never inquire It ain't right, you see Who is your family? If I don't have tools to fight Calling this a quarrel isn't right Quoting this a quarrel So immorally implies We're equal opponents And we both antagonize
Don't call it a Lovers' Quarrel Don't call it a Lovers' Quarrel Don't call it a Lovers' Quarrel Don't call it a Lovers' Quarrel
We cannot be lovers 'Cause I am the other We cannot be lovers Long as I'm the other |

| LYRICS
I'll live for you I'd die for you Do what you want me to
I'll cry for you My tears will show That I, Can't Let, You Go
It's not over, It's not over, It's not over yet, You still want me don't you, It's not over, It's not over, It's not over yet, Cuz I can see through you
Don't let me down Don't make a sound Don't throw it all away
Remember me, So tenderly Don't let it slip away
It's not over, It's not over, It's not over yet, You still want me don't you, It's not over, It's not over, It's not over yet, Cuz I can see through you
I'll live for you I'd die for you Do what you want me to |

"No Mercy in the Night" by Natalie Lurie
Timeslot: TBA
Natalie Lurie is a Nashville-based songwriter with a style that’s a little different to what you might be expecting. Taking the harp as her weapon of choice, her brand of indie-pop is closer to the work of Joanna Newsom than Willie Nelson.
Beginning with twinkling finger-picking and controlled vocals, No Mercy In The Night takes pity on your ears. It’s gentle, delicate and – like the work of indie’s most renowned harpist – full of pop charm.
There’s a real grace and effortlessness to Lurie’s songwriting; nothing is forced about No Mercy In The Night and it will catch your ear with complete ease. Sitting firmly in the poppier camp of indie, this is a song in which you’ll find much to like, if your poison is melody and harmony.

"Triángulo" by iLe Week 3: Queen Of Harps
1:49+
For this week's challenge I decided to go with a more ethnic song, Triángulo (Triangle) it's a beautiful song that represents my culture, about a woman who is feels all these feelings about his partner but she feels a storm inside her, she describes all the emotions that this heartbreak is inflicting inside her. This is a very organic song, where the harps and classic guitars open a space for her vocals to express all the emotions.
Credits: Harps by Ileana Colón | LYRICS

"Island" by Emilie Kahn
2:01+
"In the early stages of this record I threw out a bunch of songs that I decided weren’t good enough and in my despair daydreamed about dropping everything and disappearing to an island; instead I wrote this and everything opened up."
- Emilie Kahn about her experience making her latest record "Outro"
| LYRICS
Just the luck of the draw, I guess I'm no better than all the rest But you told me I was special Shouldn't have said I was special at all
So I've given it thought I should just go away to an island I'll disappear You'll never have to think of me again Oh please tell me I'm wrong, tell me I'm fine Say it's all good, I'll be alright Tell me you want me to stay forever
Just the way things are meant to be, I guess Got no sway on my destiny, I guess you could say But I can't make sense of every time you pick me up and you put me down Every time you take me back and then you throw me out I can't make sense, I can't make sense of it
So I've given it thought I should just go away to an island I'll disappear You'll never have to think of me again Oh please tell me I'm wrong, tell me I'm fine Say it's all good, I'll be alright Tell me you want me to stay forever
Oh please say you forgive me Can we just go back to the way it was? Can we just go back, can we just go back to the way it was?
Cause I've given it thought I should just go away to an island I'll disappear You'll never have to think of me again I know I'm right, know I'll be fine and it's all good I just need to get away from everyone I've ever met
So I've given it thought I should just go away to an island I'll disappear You'll never have to think of me again I know I'm right, know I'll be fine and it's all good I just need to get away from everyone I've ever met
But tell me you want me to stay and I'll forget all of this |

LYRICS
"Couvre l'enfant Manteau d'argent"
Refrain:
English
It is a story About the old From a dream An ordinary lie Or truth For those who want to hear it By an oak-tree Foresaken A child lies On a wool scarf And the dozing tree Is stretching its branches "Cradling the child Right against itself" Can you hear from up above? This song like a symphony Will they remain closed The gates to heaven? The child is falling asleep Closed eyes So far from his home All the stars in the sky Are to watch over him together From the dead of the night "Cover the child up With a silver overcoat" Can you hear from up above? This song like a symphony Will they remain closed The gates to heaven? Can you hear from up above? This song like a symphony Will they remain closed The gates to heaven? Messire Wind I beg you Hear my cause Since you blow outside Lead the child On the breeze's back "Take the child Into his crib" Can you hear from up above? This song like a symphony Will they remain closed The gates to heaven? Can you hear from up above? This song like a symphony Will they remain closed The gates to heaven?

EVA CADO S07 E03 ~ Queen of harps Elvis Costello - Any Kings’s Shilling So for this week I chose a song wich features a prominent harp like the challenge asked us to do! But I also chose this song because of the personal message it contains! The song tells the tale of Elvis Costello’s Grandfather who was working as a military bandleader during World War I. His grandfather was a soldier who was stationed in Dublin, and just before the Irish uprising of 1916, his friends on the rebel side warned him to stay out of the way. On the surface, it just seems to tell the story of one person pleading with another and not to go marching headlong into a dangerous situation. this mournful, Celtic-ballad is not only inherently tied to Irish history, it’s also very much tied to Elvis’s own Irish roots! And I love all the etnic Irish instruments it contains with the (Irish) Harp as the main melody line of the song. I also must say I’ve been interested in both World Wars my whole life and this is a story that is completely new for me and I feel the upmost respect for the Irish soldiers that have been through not only a war but also an upcoming uprising in Ireland wich was about to happen (the so called Easter Rising) ! Lyrics You're a fine one, oh yes you are You're a fine one just like me And we're friends now, oh wouldn't you say? We've been friends now, oh haven't we? Stay at home tonight if you know what's good for you I can't say more it would be telling For if you don't what will become of you Just isn't worth any king's shilling I will answer when they make that call, pull upon this ragged uniform Up 'til now I know it's been your trade Spit and polish the potato parade Stay at home tonight if you know what's good for you I can't say more it would be telling For if you don't what will become of you Just isn't worth any king's shilling Please don't put your silly head in that pretty soldier's hat You've done your duty, that's enough of that I don't know if what I'm doing is right I don't know if you should be forgiving But for me it seems it means my life While for you it could just be a living Stay at home tonight if you know what's good for you I can't say more it would be telling For if you don't what will become of you Just isn't worth any king's shilling Please don't put your silly head in that British soldier's hat You've done your duty that's enough of that You're a fine one, oh yes you are You're a fine one, just like me

"DOWN TO THE MINUTE" by Nearly Oratorio Queen of Harps in S7E3
1:03+
"Down To The Minute", is a hypnotizing song by Nearly Oratorio. The song uses prominent harp, and his voice is soothing and it relaxes you and let you enjoy the talent of the singer as well as the song.
This week was probably the most difficult for me, as I am not really the best at finding instrumentals. Though finding this song it's a great chance to show that I can be different, every week, even when you feel lost in a challenge!
| LYRICS
From my seat I've heard enough I can't be the frame this falls upon Stand in doorway half undone This could be the end you always want And when I'm messing up And the way we're fraying up Couldn't hear me saying stop You don't think I've said enough Couldn't tell you from the top Cut the sequence back to front By the way I'm fraying We're down to the minute but I couldn't give a fuck I was only in it for us Do we take me out or not Hours to the minute You're forcing it I could make the edge more sharp I swear I have made the air more or less a friend I could be the end of your heart as you know From your seat you've cared enough This could be the prayer you called upon I'm a head-case I'm a front You should take the door I always blocked And there's a point Arrows miss the head and miss the mark Courage is a coin I spent too fast Taking myself out isn't a point I'm making I'm saying You know that I'm fraying You know that I'm aiming And I'm missing the mark 'Cause we're down to the minute but I couldn't give a fuck I was only in it for us Do we take me out or not Hours to the minute You're forcing it I could make the edge for sharp I swear I have made the air more or less a friend I could be the end of your heart as you know But you mustn't know But you mustn't know But you mustn't know |

Tas HarareEvi Vine Colours of the Night2:30+ "Colours of the Night" is a sweet song in principle - on the surface it's just Evi and the harp contributing to a cute ballad, but with dark lyricism and its complex buildup, there's an ominously haunting atmosphere.
The harp itself is featured right from the beginning of the song to the end, with no break at all, encapsulating the very essence of this challenge.
Lyrics: The colours of the night are swimming in your eyes And I can't turn away Try as I might, it's a losing battle this I find Flawed in some many ways.
The consequence of loving you is all too obvious And yes it's true to say it's destroying me And I've no defence, no argument to keep you from my door I'm so drawn into this perverse catastrophe
And it's enough to tear my heart in two Enough to lead me back to you It's enough as all our dreams falls through
The echoes of the night, leave me hypnotised And I am far away Try as I might, it's a losing battle this I find Flawed in some many ways.
The consequence of loving you is all too obvious And yes it's true to say it's destroying me And I've no defence, no argument to keep you from my door I'm so drawn into this perverse catastrophe
And it's enough to tear my heart in two Enough to lead me back to you And it's enough as all our dreams fall through
And it's enough to tear my heart in two Enough to lead me back to you And it's enough as all our dreams fall through
The colours of the night are swimming in your eyes And I can't turn away
