.: feralia :. episode 4 ~ extermination round
lia rox - hound (3:38+)
~ blood-curdling | causing or expressing terror or horror ~
in order to emphasize on the definition of the adjective given above, the song selected begins with a small narrative on "what is love?" and how menacing it can be over someone's general mindset. gradually, the song progresses into insanity and madness - words mentioned in the narrative by the artist, which in turn will finish it with the artist laughing like the villain.
the story is pretty simple - the girl and the boy and the girl obsessing over the guy so much that in the end it's all "if I can't have you, no one else will". the video is matching perfectly as well, subtle, yet relatively graphic and bloody.
the adjective's definition is mainly induced by the gradual insanity of the artist as the song progresses - untill the string breaks as a whole. (no one would take you away from me / and if they do I'm gonna get you anyway)
the final verse is where the desperation, combined with obsession, love and deceiving really shine - as the girl shows her true intentions and ends on a pretty creepy note, showing a beating heart, still covered in blood, suggesting that she most likely killed him. (I'm crazy? / you say I'm crazy? / I'm a crazy hound)

GENNA CIDE WEEK 4 • Extermination
"Oily Night" - Tom Waits
blood-curdling: adj. - causing terror or horror
A blood-curdling song makes the listener uncomfortable, tense, uncertain, and scared. It's an intense feeling caused by an unusual instrumental cacophony and a strange, low, monstrous vocal. Even worse, it creeps up on you and your level of anxiety rises. You want it to stop, but as the track continues, you're awaiting for a moment of relief. When is it gonna end? You want it to end! But you don't know when! Please! Make it stop! The constantly rising intensity and strangeness of noise does not give you that relief... until the very end. And once it's over, you're glad it's over.
