WEEK 5 PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Baba Yaga The Pagans (are timeslots even necessary lol?)
Baba-Yaga is an ogre witch demon prominent in slavic folklore. She steals, cooks and eats kids. She lives in a house with chicken feet and is an overall scary bitch.
Living in a Russian & Icelandic household, i was scared with two witchy bitches, Baba Yaga & Grýla, which is why i am a scarred & ruined individual. But of course, i had to send a song about either mother figure.
Not much is known about this song, and there aren't any lyrics online, but thought it was fun to send a quintessential 60's American garage punk rock about a Russian witch.

WEEK 5 PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Trøllabundin Eivør (2:53+)
I selected Eivør's song "Trøllabundin". It is an absolute classic piece of modern music and totally belongs to this challenge. Not only does it have lyrics speaking about a curse by a wizard, but it also has that folk sound going along with it which makes it very authentic and more mysterious. Special regards to the amazing demonic sounds 3:24 onwards which describe her cursed soul from an inside perspective.
Spellbound I am, I am The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me Spellbound deep in my soul, in my soul In my heart burns a sizzling fire, a sizzling fire Spellbound I am, I am The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me Spellbound in my heart's root, my heart's root My eyes gaze to where the wizard stoodthanks fagni for the post layout

FONDALL KATS Austra - "Spellwork" (3:43+)
"Spellwork" is very clearly a song about the supernatural. While the lyrics do not explicitly state the form of supernatural, there is a strong indication of significant supernatural elements, most prominently witch-based (eg. "bleed for your potion, spellwork and lies").
Video: In the woods, people ride around menacingly on black steeds, witches decked out in black robes plot sinister acts, and a guy in a knock-off Guy Fawkes mask stalks the land. But the band appears to have fun here until vocalist Katie Stelmanis dies or whatever. This is, again, a clear depiction of the supernatural - enter the woods of your own accord by watching the video above.
Lyrics: Habit alone, when separate I moan Feeding on bones or anything grown I command post and nobody shows In mornings I rest here In evenings I work here My debt isn't spent till the rest of me's left All I adore...
You must be the call The evil at night Speaking words of grace While spellwork delights Feel my desire, it burns like a fire Feel my desire, it burns like a fire
I work alone saving my soul If yesterday hurts, tomorrow is worse Send me a sign, for my body's aligned I'm ready to waste all my limbs and my face My pores are wide open And bleed for your potion Spellwork and lies!
You must be the call The evil at night Speaking words of grace While spellwork delights Feel my desire, it burns like a fire Feel my desire, it burns like a fire
You must be the call The evil at night Speaking words of grace While spellwork delights Feel my desire, it burns like a fire Feel my desire, it burns like a fire

"Female Vampire" by Jenny Hval Week 5: Paranormal Activity
1:07+
As some of the other contestants took this challenge in a more literal way, I choose to go for another perspective, in this song called ''Female Vampire'' Jenny Hval take all of this vampire theme into a metaphore about herself. This song she turns compares herself into a vampire, like she says ''not an all-knowing and ancient creature combining violence, aggressive sexuality and deceitful youth'' but is more like powerful, mysterious and enchanting. Like Jenny says: “Female Vampire” is a hunting song, a scene in which a vampire looks for fresh blood on the dancefloor. This vampire is timeless, but also contemporary. She feels old, but is also struck by restlessness and boredom. She’s tired of killing but can’t help feeling bloodlust. Its more a like an empowering way that she compares this supernatural qualities with a female sexually empowerment, she goes like a hunter to it's prey
'' Here it comes Here it comes''
She compares this vampire awakening with a hollow night to a sexually or empowering awakening, what makes this song more enchanting and atmospheric. I think this it's a great choice to represent cause it's not only dark but mysterious, it has an amazing supernatural theme with a deep meaning behind it. Also not only sexual awakening but she compares it with a situation where she now it's the hunter against all this man creeps that had tried to going after her. Now they are the prey
| LYRICS
Transient, restless
I'm not there, or not there yet
But if I'm coming I must be hollow enough
I follow the body, I mustn't rest
When I'm near you become someone else
I'm so tired of subjectivity
I must justify my presence by losing it
Must not keep a steady gaze
Keep a steady gaze
When I'm near you become someone else
Here it comes, here it comes
Here it comes
A strange slow rhythm, not exactly creating a rhythm
Here it comes
In and out of focus, vulnerable, the original crevasse
In a moment of confusion I don't know what to say
And I hear myself ask:
Where does it hurt to create curves for the gaze?
The body as a subconscious
And desire takes place somewhere, everywhere
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes (In the dampness of)
Here it comes (Winter air between us)
Here it comes (In the restlessness of hotel rooms)
Here it comes (The smell of Spanish wetlands)
Here it comes
In the way you say:
It hurts everywhere

(sorry for the lacking post but it's the best i can do rn) Mathew HorrodSopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadow - “Children of the Corn” 3:27+ There's not a shred of beauty here, Residing in the human flesh There's only sadness and confusion, And the stench of shit and death.
In moments dull of self-pity, Of insufficiency and doubt, I catch myself black handed thief, Wishing that there'd be someone else.
Sometimes ghosts are passing through, The mind both labyrinth and tomb, And yet its still unrivaled here, Because things aren't born, Only ideas Are sleeping safely Far beyond the horrors of decay. And they are sacred and immortal Because they never have to fade.
Thumbing at times half-heartedly Through flipbooks of a lonely child, Old silent movies shake and flicker, In the dark theater between my thighs, Then countless are the handsome limbs, That wildly jump and hop Soulless bodies unspecified As they are numberless and cropped.
When you close your tired eyes Does he then join you in this place? Will he cross over, share your dream Or does he vanish on the doorstep All to quickly disappear. Alas! Reality is such a crippled whore All mortal things are sick and rotten to the core, Only the mind, a frail but kingly jewel, Gives birth to beauty love and truth.
So why not stay and forever make a home, In the darkness of the only place, You never can belong? In a land, sublime that some call fantasy Our only hope of love Or immortality.
There's not a shred of beauty here, Residing in the human flesh There's only sadness and confusion, And the stench of shit and death.
(i quickly put the lyrics where paranormal activity is showcased the best in bold)

Pisa GarbitsRebekka Karijord The OrbitThe Orbit focuses on using space as a metaphor for drawing two people together which I find to be supernatural. It also incorporates contradictory biological processes (i.e "a symbiosis drawn apart") and also refers to general religious references such as "the sign". Whiel it doesn't explicitly go supernatural, it's easily got a supernatural vibe.
also there's no text copy of the lyrics anywhere. y'all think i'm arsed enough to type them out when i'm ill and in bed? didn't think so sorry sweaties x

carmen goett - la llorona (2:07+)
the story of "la llorona" has been illustrated pretty frequently in the latin american folklore, especially in mexico. it tells the story of a girl named maria, who supposedly had the perfect life untill her husband left her for another woman - and the legend ends in an abrupt moment, when the girl murders her two sons before killing herself. therefore, maria committed two wrongful sins: murder and suicide.
back to the song... while it doesn't portray the supernatural vibe in the first glance, the artist makes sure the song shines through its heartwrenching delivery towards the woman who had sinned and cannot enter the afterlife unless she finds her sons. carmen doesn't seem scared of this paranormal ghost, but rather offers comfort and praise towards the so-called "weeping woman" - reaching all the way to forgiveness. (aunque la vida me cueste, llorona / no dejaré de quererte - although the life will cost me, weeping woman / i'll never stop loving you)
unlike the classical version of "la llorona", this one offers closure. the closure which maria desperately needed.

DONNA THE DYKE WEEK 5 PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 遇见飞天 (Meeting the Fēitiān) Han Hong (---)
I've decided to take a different direction from all the other queens this week. Whilst they have decided to send songs about more secular contexts for the supernatural, I've instead decided to send a song that is focused on the religious Chinese Buddhist supernatural, a supernatural form that we rarely hear about not just on this forum, but in the western cultural hemisphere as well.
The Apsara, or Fēitiān as they are referred to in China, are beautiful female supernatural beings that are often depicted as flying figures within Buddhist caves such as the Mogao and Yulin caves. The Fēitiān are youthful, ethereal beings that inhabit the skies, often depicted taking flight (flying is a supernatural occurrence). Apsaras are said to be able to change their shape at well. Western equivalents to apsaras include "nymph", "fairy", and "celestial maiden".
遇见飞天 speaks diligently to the supernatural being that is the Fēitiān, with many darker elements spread out throughout the song. The song reads as a poem between the writer and the supernatural Fēitiān as it speaks about the person wishing to fly through the supernatural body.
It speaks of the wait and struggle that was undertaken in order to reach this climax. "In a flash, the beauty re-emerged, meeting you" is quite clearly a supernatural occurrence brought after the "pleading" to meet in our "tale", all links to what the supernatural represents.
With lyrics such as "souls dragged into the past" and "the suffering along the journey", serve the placement of the feitian as dividers between a border of historical events and sublime higher realities.
The concept of supernaturalism as a whole relates to anything that is scientifically inexplicable but nevertheless argued by its believers, which perfectly explains the Feitian as featured in a religious context.
| Traveling west across, this road of thousand miles Following the step of Lèzūn the Shamen, Śramaṇa, gaining enlightenment For generations, no fear for the dust of Govi, making statues and digging out caves Guarding for thousand years, the nation of Buddha, I devote The suffering along the journey, you never give up For eternity, longing for the glory, I gaze from above The culture of Huáxià, for us to carry on, to remake the extraordinary Clap with me, the honor and glory, Let's venture again The conviction I have dedicated, for the past thousand years, never changed In a flash, the beauty re-emerged, meeting you, Fēitiān(Aspara) My devoted meditation, relentlessly practicing Pleading with Fēitiān(Aspara), to meet in our tale In the mural, who started dancing, the Mogao Caves, greets the sunrise Across the silk road, not alone, you are here, I am sure Out west past the Yángguān, the bustling stops In the sounds of Sanskrit, writing down thousand lines, of peace Souls dragged into the past, dreams tied to Dūnhuáng, like my imagination On the Singing Sand Dunes, gazing upon, the dazzling moonlight
