Let's kick off the 80's with some 80's! And for this occasion Latvia will be sending the "wrong song" This pretty much is a serious joke song Dālderi - "Nepareizā Dziesma" (eng. "The Wrong Song") (1:36+ for recap, please!) PICS: One of these 2 will have to do, because there are no better pictures... USSR times were pretty serious times and songs like these weren't recorded a lot (for multiple reasons). To see, how serious were USSR times (massive censorship was a thing), look at the crowd in this live video in spoiler - nowadays you wouldn't see crowd like this (maybe only in North Korea or somewhere similar), especially, when a cheerful song like this is being played. Everything was so serious, that people were afraid to let go and enjoy songs, like we do nowadays, when we can dance, jump, scream or do whatever when a song is playing (back then any wrong move (not always literally) and you'd be a suspect for jail).

My recent entries were mainly serious love songs so it's time for something a bit different. I'm just happy that it's on youtube. Werner Thomas - Der Ententanz(It translates to The Chicken Dance - and yes it is exactly what you're thinking right now.)
I once read about it on the newspaper otherwise I wouldn't know that it's originally Swiss. Let me tell you (in short) what I know about the history of The Chicken Dance: Werner Thomas (originally from the North-Eastern parts of Switzerland) worked as a musical teacher in Davos (it's a city in the mountains if you don't know that place) back in the 1950s. In his free time he also composed own songs to play on the accordion since he also toured as an entertainer. He and his wife were owners of 150+ ducks and gooses (imagine that noise ) - which is probably also where the name of the track comes from. If I understood it correctly, the melody was was more like an experiment for a jingle (or kind of at least) to use in order to announce the beginnings / endings of the break during his shows. The idea for the dance however, came to his mind at an evening a few years later when he went to feed the animals. The ducks' flapping when they run to him brought the thought of imitating them to his mind. Werner is still alive! Now aged 90, he's living in an old people's home in Locarno, Ticino (not to be confused with Lugano).

Actually, these are ducks, not chickens. And here is the French version of it (you can't avoid this in any marriage party - especially after a few drinks)...
