EVA CADO S07 E07 ~ Netflixpop and chill Lexie Liu - Hat Trick
For this challenge i focused on chosing a song that i associate with an iconic scene from a series. The song I chose was featured in the second season of the spanish netflix original series Élite. This song was featured in a scene Guzmán and Nadia shared together after there was some romantic/sexual tension between them since the beginning of the series and when this song played they finally gave in to the attraction towards each other. In my opinion this song really captures that feeling of knowing there is an attraction towards each other but you can't act on it. I hope the judges can see that I tried to find a more original song because the song is also partly sung in Chinese. And that I can step my pussy up after being safe for 3 episodes in a row.
I just want to be, want to be loved
Guess we're bound to be, bound to be lost
I could wait another night
Just to take another bite on you
I just want to be, want to be loved
Guess we're bound to be, bound to be lost
I could wait another night
Just to take another bite on you
Then wear the gold hat, like it would move me
If you can bounce high, bounce for me in one, two, three
For a day, day, day
The girl really worth having won't wait for anybody
The girl really worth having won't wait for anybody
I just want to be, want to be loved
Guess we're bound to be, bound to be lost
I could wait another night
Just to take another bite on you

"Familiar" by Agnes Obel Week 7: Netflixpop and Chill
1:05+
For this week's challenge I decided to got with Netflix's german original series ''DARK'', for the episode ''Past And Present'' [EP 3, S1]. This song by Agnes Obel looks like it was made specially for this scene. It's important to point out that the song is really important for the series as it complements one of the key scenes where (SPOILER ALERT) they do a montage of past and present of the characters, which is important as the series play with the timeline.
Here is the scene:
| LYRICS
[Verse 1]
Can you walk on the water if I, you and I?
Because your blood's running cold outside the familiar true to life
Can you walk on the water if I, you and I?
Or keep your eyes on the road and live in the familiar, without you and I
It glows with gates of gold, true to life
[Chorus]
For our love is a ghost that the others can't see
It's a danger
Every shade of us you fade down to keep
Them in the dark on who we are
(Oh, what you do to me)
Gonna be the death of me
It's a danger
'Cause our love is a ghost that the others can't see
[Verse 2]
We took a walk to the summit at night, you and I
To burn a hole in the old grip of the familiar, you and I
And the dark was opening wide, do or die
Under a mask of vermillion ruling eyes
[Chorus]
And our love is a ghost that the others can't see
It's a danger
Every shade of us you fade down to keep
Them in the dark on who we are
(Oh, what you do to me)
Gonna be the death of me
It's a danger
'Cause our love is a ghost that the others can't see

"Die 4 You" by Perfume Genius
3:14+
Netflix shows have a trend of either having dire soundtracks, or amazing soundtracks. The Rain (Netflix Denmark) has a sparse, but exceptional soundtrack that does a great job reinforcing the scenes the songs support. In the season finale of the first episode (S01EP08) , during the climax of the first season, the main Character, Simone, and her lover Martin are faced with the agonizing reality of separating. In the dystopian world they live, decimated by a disease of manmade origin, the two characters spent a long time growing completely dependent and trusting of the other (despite rocky beginnings). At this point in the episode, it has been revealed that Martin (along with most of Simone's other friends) had been injected with the Virus, while Simone had not. "Die 4 You" plays in the background as the two characters kiss, and softly argue about Simone leaving. Martin is encouraging her to abandon him for her to live, while Simone is insisting on Martin coming with her and that she would find the cure. In the end, Simone does not leave Martin (and her other friends) behind.
"Die 4 You" is a haunting song which displays your presence to a lover despite physical separation. The song's arrangement and mood adds to the melancholy created by the lyrics, often accompanied by the end of a relationship or a hard decision one has to make. The song was an absolute perfect choice to represent the state of Simone's mind at the time, as she was willing to (likely) die from the virus if Martin had tagged along with her. If only she had not been stopped by the guard taking her brother hostage...
| LYRICS
Limit every second left 'Til I'm off balance (Oh love) I'm there in spirit Each and every breath I spend You are collecting See it through I would die for you
Each and every breath I spend You are collecting Limit every second, left 'Til I'm off balance Each and every breath I spend
Oh my love, how I love Take your time How my love takes your time Whom I love, how I love
Oh my love, how I love Take your time How my love takes your time See it through |

"The End" by Daughter
2:54+
I love sci-fi shows, particularly ones set in the dystopian future because the main character(s) is always a fish out of water and I'm always interested in how the character adapts to an unfamiliar setting. "Altered Carbon" is a Netflix Original series that has piqued my interest for a long time. It's set in the far future when humanity has harnessed the technology to transfer human consciousness into different bodies in disks called stacks. Individuals who experience this drastic change adjust to their new bodies, also called sleeves. Some adjust easier than others.
In the first episode, the mind of our protagonist Takeshi Kovacs was placed into a new body. Killed in his first body 250 years ago for his involvement in a rebellion, he had been given a new lease in life by an extremely wealthy man if he assists him in solving a murder in exchange for freedom. Initially, he refused the offer, seeing it to be pointless.
Kovacs spent his first night in his new body immersing himself into the vices of dystopian society. As the episode progresses, thoughts of his past crept in. Viewers see flashbacks to when he was first killed, and how the rebellion took the lives of his sister Reileen and rebellion leader Quellcrist Falconer, both people he cared deeply about. He knows he is the sole survivor of the rebels, and feels defeated without anyone to turn to. With these depressing thoughts, he contemplated killing himself permanently by shooting at the back of his neck, where his stack is located. He knows destroying his stack will end his life for good. However, hallucinations of Falconer encouraged him to keep living, and more importantly, to "finish the mission." Ultimately, Kovacs decided against killing himself, and at the end of the episode, he decided to take up on the rich man's offer... and finish the centuries-old mission.
Appropriately, "The End" plays at the end of the episode. More importantly, it establishes Kovacs' humanity and is essential to the development of his character early in the series. It shows the internal struggle within him between moving on from his past and taking a chance on this new life. The soft, vulnerable vibe of the song evokes his humanity and serves as a contrast to the harsh and unfamiliar dystopian setting which surrounds him. It is the end of his past, and the beginning of another chapter in his life.
For context, this is the end of Episode 1 when "The End" plays. The clip is not in English.

LYRICS This is the end, this is the end You wait to find that I am still here And you've been waiting for the light to shine Wake up, wake up, wake up I'll be the answer to the question I can't answer It's a question you can't spit it out Can we find We find, we find a way out A way out
It's easier to understand We die, we're buried underground But I have stayed awake since then I'm trying to find a new best friend You instigate, come after chasing Oh, what the hell should I say then? I missed you Let's spend the future talking about the past How you said goodbye How I fucked your mind up
We really are something else I'd say you were sent here just to keep me in check My pulse is quick My neck is stretched Cruel lover says I need to just get over it Get over him Get over myself
They say there's something in the sky We should pay attention I don't care to realize I'm too busy moping They say there's something in our seas We should all be careful I'm not swimming anyway I'm too busy moping They say there's something in my house That I should just get out, get out I don't want to be escaping No, I'm too busy moping around I'm too busy moping around I'm too busy moping around I'm too busy moping around I'm too busy moping around
Take a run home, I don’t like where you’re going Run home, I don’t like the words you're saying Run home, I don’t like where you’re going Run home, I don’t like the words you're saying Take a run home, I don’t like where you’re going Run home, I don’t like the words you're saying Run home, I don’t like where you’re going Run home, I don’t like the words you're saying

"Torna a casa" (Come back home) by Måneskin
tba
This week challenge I have decided to go with a song from the Italian Netflix series called "Baby".
The characters of the series are all Roman teenagers, as well as the four young members of the band, Damiano, Victoria, Ethan and Thomas: they live similar experiences in a sort of training novel that, as it goes on throughout the series, is also told in the lyrics of the Maneskin. Baby tells in 6 episodes a story of formation that explores the secret lives of some Roman teenagers.
Inspired by a true story, the series follows the story of a group of kids from the Parioli district who challenge society by seeking their own identity and independence, against the background of forbidden loves, family pressures and shared secrets. What happened in Rome a few years ago is just the frame of this story. Baby talks about teenagers who desperately need love. All the characters need it differently, both adults and children. Baby is above all a story of love and misunderstanding, romantic and dark at the same time. Each character embarks on his or her journey in search of love and happiness.
| LYRICS
English translation:
I'm walking through my city, the wind is blowing hard I left everything behind, the sun's on the horizon I see houses from afar, they closed the doors But luckily I've got her hand and her red cheeks She pulled me up from the ground covered with thorns With a thousand snakes' bites, motionless through the coils She didn't listen to those bastards and their cursing With one look she convinced me to pack my bags and leave And this is a journey no one's ever made before Alice and her wonders, the mad hatter We'll walk along this road and I'll never be tired Until time brings white onto your hair Just a paper sheet and half a cigarette are left in my hand Let's stay a little longer, we're not in a hurry Because I've got a sentence written in my head, but I've never said it Because life without you can't be perfect So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, I don't want to wait anymore So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I'm afraid I'll disappear And the sky is slowly becoming transparent here The sun is illuminating the people's weaknesses A salty tear wets my cheek, while She sweetly caresses my face with her hand With blood on my hands I'll climb all the peaks I want to get where the human eye stops In order to learn to forgive all of my sins Because sometimes even angels are afraid of death Just a paper sheet and half a cigarette are left in my hand Let's run away from those who are too thirsty for revenge From this motionless land, because I'm feeling it stifling now Yesterday I was quiet because today I'll be the storm So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, I don't want to wait anymore So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I don't want anymore... Before you I was just a lunatic, let me tell you now I wore a creased jacket and cuts on my wrists Today I feel blessed and can't find anything else to add This city will look out when it sees us arrive I was in the balance between being the victim and being the judge I was a shiver that brings light to darkness And sets you free from these bright shiny chains And I'm in doubt, whether they were deaths or rebirths So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, I don't want to wait anymore So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I don't want to disappear anymore, ah ah ah Ah ah, nai nai nai nai So, Marlena, come back home, I feel it's getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I'm afraid I'll disappear

"Preciso Me Encontrar" "I Need To Find Me" by Liniker S7E06: Netflixpop and Chill
"Preciso Me Encontrar" is a cover of a famous Brazilian song (and, in my opinion, one of the greatest Brazilian songs) written by a songwriter called Candeia and made famous by Cartola's 1976 recording.
It's a melancholy, wistful, simple, beautiful song about self-searching, about trying to find oneself.
The song was featured in the 2nd season of the Netflix Original 3%, and I fell in love with the song the second I heard it. While I was searching for Netflix Originals I instantly thought of Black Mirror (cough Dan cough) but in the end I wanted to try something risky so I went with this Portuguese bop, so I am praying that it works.
3% is a Brazilian dystopian thriller web television series that currently has 3 season, with the 4th to come. Developed from a 2009 independent pilot episode, it is the first Portuguese-language Netflix original series and the second non-English production, after the Spanish-language series Club de Cuervos.
The series is set in an unspecified future when 20-year-old individuals of the impoverished "Inland" have the single opportunity to complete "The Process" and advance to the affluence of the distant "Offshore" society. While most of the unsuccessful candidates are simply eliminated, some fail to survive, leading to only 3% of the candidates succeeding.
Hope you enjoy! | LYRICS (english)
Let me go I need to walk I'm going there to look for Laugh not to cry
Let me go I need to walk I'm going there to look for Smile not to cry
Watching the sunrise See how waters of the rivers Hear the rivers sing I want to be born I want to live
Let me go I need to walk I'm going there to look for
Laugh not to cry If someone asks me Say I just came back After I find myself Watching the sunrise
See how waters of the rivers Hear the rivers sing I want to be born I want to live
Let me go I need to walk I'm going there to look for Smile not to cry
(Let me go, I need to walk I'm going there to look for Smile not to cry)
Come on, let me go. I'm going there to look for Smile not to cry
(Let me go, I need to walk I'm going there to look for Smile not to cry)

"PISTOLS AT DAWN" by Seinabo Sey S7E07: Netflixpop and Chill
Timeslot: 3:15
"Pistols at Dawn" is a song by Gambian-born and Sweden-based singer Seinabo Sey. It was released as part of her debut studio album For Madeleine.
Seinabo Sey sings coolly over harrowing piano chords and thunderous beats. Even while vocally restrained, Sey’s bluesy rasp is an eerily intoxicating and commanding force.
My initial thought was to go for a song from Orange Is The New Black, which is my favorite Netflix series. Eventually, I decided to go for the Sense8, as I've heard of its great soundtrack, which I realized myself while going through it, which included this song.
Sense8 (a play on the word sensate) is an American science fiction drama web television series created for Netflix. Despite its popularity, the series was cancelled after its 2nd season which caused an outrage. The song appeared in the 2nd season of the series, at the end of the 11th episode called "You Want a War?", the second last episode of the season.
| LYRICS
Hear the wind calling me to leave this place Yet here we are standing 'round face to face This burning sky witnessed the greatest of love Now it waits patiently to draw from our blood The time has come to show and prove or be one With all you thought you knew, coming undone Is that you reaching or you wanting to run Stand down or show down baby let's get this done
You looking at me Me looking at you We could've have it all A world of our own I never thought we could be Pistols at dawn
I was the emperor and you owned the son Invincible, I can't believe what we've done Surely we must be more than love on the run Dancing in darkness to the sound of a drum Can’t help but wonder what you thought I would do Lay down and play dead boy you know that ain't true This is me reaching and you wanting to run Stand down or show down baby let's get this done
You looking at me Me looking at you We could've have it all A world of our own I never thought we could be Pistols at dawn
I'd rather die tonight If I have to What would you ever think that I'd take a bullet for you I'd rather die tonight If I have to What would you ever think that I'd take a bullet for you You looking at me Me looking at you We could've have it all A world of our own I never thought we could be Pistols at dawn
Pistols at dawn Pistols at dawn

Sorry for yet another terribly laid out post, free time hasn't been the most plentiful thing I've had this week I've decided to just say "You know what? Fuck it" and send something from Black Mirror: Bandersnatch... yes, you guessed it, the absolutely iconic Miss Laurie Anderson.

"Into The Black" by Chromatics
3:44+
“Into the Black,” first track off Chromatics' fourth album Kill For Love, is a cover of Neil Young’s “Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)”. Chromatics shortens the title to the simpler “Into the Black.”
This week, I decided to opt for something popular, that being a song from the soundtrack of 13 Reasons Why. It might be an obvious choice, but when I saw the concept I thought to myself, "which song made a scene even more special than it was supposed to be" and "Into The Black" was the first that came to my mind.
13 Reasons Why is based on the New York Times bestselling YA book by Jay Asher, was created by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey, who also wrote the pilot. 13 Reasons Why is the story of Hannah Baker, a high schooler who commits suicide. Clay receives a box of tapes from Hannah, his late classmate and crush after she kills herself. On the tapes, which get passed along to other students based on Hannah's instructions, Hannah reveals the 13 reasons why she took her own life.
In this particular scene, Alex (one of the 13 reasons) decides to jump into the pool with all his clothes on after concluding that his new friends have only made his life miserable. He stars to feel guilt for everything he has done and we posssibly see the first signs of him being suicidal (which works as a premonition of his suicide attempt at the end of the season). In my opinion, this song makes the scene much more powerful, emotional and memorable.
The scene:

My, my Hey, hey Rock and Roll Is here to stay It's better to burn out Than to fade away
My, my Hey, hey Out of the blue Into the black They give you this But you pay for that Once you're gone You can never come back When you're Out of the blue Into the black
The King is gone But he's not forgotten This is the story of Johnny Rotten It's better to burn out than it is to rust The King is gone but he's not forgotten
