Iceland and Faroe Islands update: Iceland:Finally, I think the country is well and truly through the worst*. 9 new cases today, the lowest since they began rising, and decreasing so far every day. Almost 1000 recoveries out of 1700 cases now and only 8 left in intensive case Our press conference today said that the mass gathering ban will be eased soon to allow up to 50 people to gather instead of 20 prior, while schools, nurseries, massage parlours and other areas will be able to reopen from the 4th of May. Since we never had a true lockdown like other countries I feel this may actually be sustainable. Testing is still continuing en masse (36,000 latest I hear, 10% of the country) and will likely continue yet for some time. I hope this allows us to be able to return to normal in time for the 17. June National Day celebrations and most of all for Þjóðhátíð in August, would be so fitting to bring the country together after the worry and social distancing of the last few months. Faroe Islands:Probably the only country coping better than us right now, yet again down to the motto of test, test, test. There haven't been any new cases reported on the islands in several days now and of the 184 total cases I believe only 21 remain. This is partly thanks to the clever and fast thinking of a salmon veterinarian on the islands who was able to adapt one of his medical tests for COVID-19, saving vital time sending tests to and from Denmark for confirmation. Hopefully soon I can see them being the second country after Greenland becoming corona-free

Some news from Marseille. While in France the epidemic is still quite active, we can see that it is slowing down in Marseille. Translation of the titles: Number of tests/day, New positive cases/day, part of positive test for new persons tested [some persons were tested several times], total number of tests and total number of confirmed cases. There is also this... So 76768 tests were done so far in Marseille for 32068 persons (more than 3% of Marseille's population, which is way higher than most of the countries in the world - even if we take into account that some of them don't live in Marseille). 4296 cases were confirmed and 74 died. A bit more than 3000 were hospitalised in Pr Raoult's institute, and 2628 received his treatment (hydroxychloroquin+azythromicin). Among those who received this treatment during more than 3 days, only 10 died.

UK lockdown restrictions are to continue as they are for at least another 3 weeks. Was to be expected to be honest. They have now also just said that the R is now below 1 so each person infected is going on to infect less than one person.

Glad to see Romania green on that list. They say that if the number of cases per day will decrease by the end of the lockdown (15 May) then we might return to university at the end of May. Let’s hope that once this happens I will be able to leave Moldova

Finally, yesterday we had no cases in the Westfjords... For those unaware they are the most remote region of the country that somehow ended up being the worst hit area after it made its way to a nursing home there, out of about 7000 residents there are 92 cases and 2 deaths (both in the nursing home). In the rest of the country now I'd say its almost over also, hopefully things will reopen soon and I can begin to plan my return (well I'll have to wait for UK lockdown to ease first but still) Looking at the rest of the world its an interesting picture... what the hell happened to Singapore recently? I swear they had it so controlled
