WEEK 1: PICK YOUR POISON
Bernadette (Post Romanian Storm) IAMX
3:05+
Fuhlei Sheeo assigned to me the "Play It Again, Dan" challenge from the third season of DSR. The premise of this challenge was to send a song in which the title contains a person's name. After some researching in between my busy schedule this week, I was stuck between two songs. Ultimately, I've decided to send the song "Bernadette" by IAMX. This is the "Post Romanian Storm" version of the song.
A dark cabaret, "Bernadette" has multiple but similar meanings. One interpretation is Bernadette as a woman the singer desires so much. Or could it be a delusional idealization that the man fantasizes? Another interpretation is Bernadette as a form of solace from the troubles of the world, a comfortable solitude... or a shared loneliness? There is so much more melancholy felt here in contrast to the original version. It's slower, darker, more dramatic, and more somber tonally. It would certainly fulfill the challenge in DSR, but this is the kind of song that is right at home in HMH.
LYRICS
You and me in our playhouse Living in a veil We never need to go without Memories bring no joy or peace We are alone And all we need
Tuning out of the poison Every waking day Intolerance to overcome Fortunes won by the boys with the guns We are alone Nowhere to run
Bernadette You are my liberty I celebrate the day That you changed my history of Life and death Will always lead you into love and regret But you have answers And I have the key for the door to Bernadette
Winding down your emotions Family and friends Becoming ghosts to dream of and pass on Time will erase every face every name We are alone No-one to blame
Bernadette You are my liberty I celebrate the day That you changed my history of Life and death Will always lead you into love and regret But you have answers And I have the key To Bernadette

WEEK 1: PICK YOUR POISON
Ladies of the Woods from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (composed by Marcin Przybyłowicz & Percival)
For the first week, since I had the pleasure to assign the challenges, I decided to treat myself with "Queen of Nerds" from Season 4 of DSR. The reason for this pick is because as a gaymer, I know what to search for this category and I know I am going to have fun while doing so. I chose a song from the universally acclaimed "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt", a video game praised for nearly everything it packed, starting from its narrative and all the way to the soundtrack, this game is considered one of the best RPG games ever made or even one of the best games of all time.
"Ladies of the Woods" is one of the numerous fantastic tracks coming from an incredible and unique video game soundtrack. Starting off quite straightforward, more elements are gradually piled on top of the track, until it graduates from portentous background music to full-blown nightmare fuel. With a propulsive drumbeat and out-of-tune violin scratches, you get the sense that everything is descending into madness, a feeling that culminates with the introduction of a meaning chant. It’s like nothing you’d hear in any another RPG, which is what makes it so damn frightening.
Additionally, I would also encourage you to check out the live version of the song. In my opinion, it makes the song even more intense and it really passes the vibe HMH is asking for.

WEEK 1: PICK YOUR POISON
Water Sudan Archives 1.36+
This week, I was assigned Queens for Africa from Season 5. I was sceptical about this as I didn't know if I should send an african artist or a song that has an african vibes. I decided to send a black artist that takes inspiration from african sounds while also having a horror/dark theme.
"Water" is from Sudan Archive's 2017 EP with the same name. Violinist and vocalist Brittney Denise Parks better known as Sudan Archives writes, plays, and produces her own music. Drawing inspiration from Sudanese fiddlers, she is self-taught on the violin, and her unique songs also fold in elements of R&B and experimental electronic music. Song gives tribal feels like a ritual that celebrates the Water. As a Water witch dedicated to the cult of Hecate, I pray to water often and that what I am doing this week with this choice.
"Na Na Drink from the water"
I think this was a risky choice knowing she's not born in Sudan nor Africa but I feel it's right as the artist/song showcases the african sound as well as it has witch elements needed for House of Musical Horrors.
LYRICS
