SHIVA KINDETT EPISODE 7 • The Clownery
Halloweenie III: Seven Days Ashnikko 1:16+
Fore this week's challenge I have chosen "Halloweenie III: Seven Days" by Ashnikko, which I actually accidentally stumbled upon while trying to find another song. Ashnikko's song represents the whole evil clown theme very well. She is telling the story of a crazy person's Halloween week, going through all kinds of creepy situations while also staying very humourful of themself, as presented in several verse lyrics like "On the seventh day of Halloween I howled at the moon, I stripped myself butt naked and showed the world my boobs".
<<< Fourth day of Halloween woke up without a face Accidentally baked my facial features into a cake >>>
The creepy clown theme is met with constant, childish laughing and a music box melody. Apart from that, the song has a banger music video that contains clown and childish costumes, which is worth watching.
Lyrics
On the first day of halloween my enemy and me Duelled in the moonlight, i got flesh in my teeth On the second day of halloween i found a vat of acid I spelled my name in finger bones full name Ashton Third day of halloween i promised him a treat Caught him in my spiderweb and started on his feet Fourth day of Halloween woke up without a face Accidentally baked my facial features into a cake
I don’t feel like myself anymore I can smell blood and it’s trailing out the door What if i’m rotten, worms eating at my core Malibu barbie bodies are washing up on the shore
On the Fifth of day halloween i bathed in menstrual blood Then I took a nap cuz being evils tiresome On the sixth day of halloween i hunted down the witches So we could be bezzie friends those are my bestest bitches On the seventh day of Halloween I howled at the moon I stripped myself butt naked and showed the world my boobs
I don’t feel like myself anymore I can smell blood and it’s trailing out the door What if i’m rotten, worms eating at my core Malibu barbie bodies are washing up on the shore
I don’t feel like myself anymore I can smell blood and it’s trailing out the door What if i’m rotten, worms eating at my core Malibu barbie bodies are washing up on the shore
Don’t wake the beast Debutante deceased Blood on the sheets All hallows' eve Don’t wake the beast She likes to eat Blueberry sweet All hallows’ eve
I don’t feel like myself anymore I can smell blood and it’s trailing out the door What if i’m rotten, worms eating at my core Malibu barbie bodies are washing up on the shore
DEMIDEVIL demon little gargoyle girl everybody’s bleeding on the marble floor

WEEK 7: THE CLOWNERY
That Laughing Track Crookers ft. Style of Eye & Carli
One of the most iconic things about creepy clowns? Their maniacal laughter. This track embodies creepy clownery at its finest. Beyond the fact that it's a bop, it's so odd. The producer warped simple laughter into such variations of length, tone, and pitch to disturbing lengths; it's quite an achievement. It's definitely not your ordinary club banger. This is for the deranged, disturbing, and daring. And if I may add, though it's a 4-minute track, with so much going in, it feels longer than it actually is.
Performances by notable drag performers like Mayhem Miller, Pangina Heals, and most iconic of all, Evah Destruction have truly cemented this banger into the style that is suitable for this floorshow.
This is truly a "creepy clown" song.

WEEK 7: THE CLOWNERY
"clown sh*t / (up the wall)" (by BABYNYMPH, BAYLI, SOPHIE)
(Watch until 2:23, unless if you would like to listen to the full mix)
I've decided to take a risk this week and send this electronic 'hyperpop'* entry, as it embodies the creepy clown spirit. The iconography in the video presents BAYLI wearing some clown make-up and holding a knife in some of the edits. The lyric "these bitches be on some clown sh*t", indicates these "bitches" are insane and very irritated, which is stereotype commonly associated with creepy killer crowns, reminiscent of some clowns in popular culture, including The Joker, Harley Quinn & Pennywise. The "up the wall" part indicates a popular saying "drive you up the wall", reinforcing the insanity associated with killer clowns. Other lyrics which embody this creepy spirit, includes "got me staring like I'm Hannibal", reminiscent of the fictional serial killer, Hannibal Lecter, and the line below it, "I get down and eat you like a cannibal", which is self-explanatory of the creepy spirit. The electronic beat creates a feeling of happiness, which evokes the feelings being at a circus; thus, reinforcing the binary of good and evil associated with clowns.
*The term "hyperpop" is often contested in the community, that is the reason why it is in quotation marks.

WEEK 7: THE CLOWNERY
Gravediggress CocoRosie
For this week, we have to send a clown-themed song! Purrfect because that's right up my alley!
I'm going with the song Gravediggress by the freak-folk sister duo CocoRosie, whose music I find very unsettling. The lyrics deal with the mental state of the person in the video, a clown, who begs the gravediggress for a whole where they can bury all their love and all their holy. They are hopeless.
I could explain more, but I would rather let Bianca Cassady (one part of CocoRosie) explain!!
The last sentence is what really capitavtes the full definition of a clown. Clowns entertain people. Clowns are sad and miserable people. Clowns are underdogs. Clowns are made fun of. Clowns are not taken seriously. Clowns scare people. But clowns are more human than some people.
I am a clown.
Here is a short extract from the Wikipedia article about the sad clown paradox
Sad clown paradox is the contradictory association between comedy and mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. These comedic performers are characterised by feelings of deprivation and isolation in their early lives, where comedy evolves as a release for tension, removing feelings of suppressed physical rage through a verbal outlet.
LYRICS
Gravediggress, dig me A hole I can bury All of my love in All of my holy
Gravediggress, dig me A hole I can bury All of my love in All of my holy
Old gravediggress by the dried up brook Whose babble turned to gravel And my company too I used to watch the butterflies Pretend that it's spring When December can't remember Not a damn cold thing
Old gravedigger-r by the burnt out tree Who held a hive, a murmur But no more bees I used to hear the wind Made speak and sing the leaves— Seems so long I've felt but a shy and tender breeze
Gravediggress, dig me A hole I can bury All of my love in All of my holy
Old scarecrow wounded at the knee Lost your button eyes And most of your stuffing Hay for a heart And hay for a brain If your momma was sweeter, then you might be sane
Gravediggress, dig me A hole I can bury All of my love in All of my holy

WEEK 7: THE CLOWNERY
Spring Rounds Igor Stravinsky 2:03+
This week, we had to come up with a song based on a killer clown. Back in 2016, there was a craze of people dressing up as creepy clowns, and harassing (and sometimes injuring and even killing) people. Starting in August, the craze reached fever pitch by October, with clown sightings and attacks had been reported in nearly all U.S. states, 9 out of 13 provinces and territories of Canada, and 18 other countries. This craze was terrifying, explosive and out of nowhere.
"Spring Rounds" is the fourth movement of Russian-Ukrainian composer Igor Stravinsky's third ballet, The Rite of Spring. This ballet followed the success and notoriety of his previous two, The Firebird and Petrushka. The Rite of Spring was a ballet that first premired back in 1913 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, in Paris. The orchestra thought there were mistakes in the scores due to how mad it was for the time. This piece was so unorthodox, that when the first showing was underway, a riot ensued, with Camille Saint-Saens making a sarcastic joke and leaving, one man is slapped in the face by another while he boos, someone yelled that the music was a fraud, an Austrian ambassador laughed aloud, two factions of the audience began to yell at each other while Maurice Ravel was yelling "Genius!" and Claude Debussy was pleading for silence, and one person spat in the face of another and no one really heard the orchestra after that. Prior to this movement, the ballet conducts a mock abduction, which is reminicent of not only the abduction the clowns of 2016 had on the American populus, but also of the 1960s serial killer John Wayne Gacy, also known as the Killer Clown.
The movement starts off with a clarinet & bass clarinet duet over a trilling flute, showcasing the time before the craze. Immediately following that, a tuba and violin line persists, mimicing August, when the craze started. Oboes, Flutes and French horns peep into the melody, giving a feeling of something being off. A lengthy trill from the flutes also perpetuates this notion. Then, the timpani signals the change into October, the month with the most sightings of the clowns. The dissonant chords and fortissimo volume of the piece calls back to the time where these clowns were the only things that were being shown on the news. The music reaches a fever pitch, and the piccolos shriek, much like any rational human would do upon seeing one of them. The noise was reaching a level almost completely unseen or unheard of prior to 1913. At 3:02, the noise drops, and we come back to a slightly altered melody from the beginning. Just like this piece, once November rolled around, there were virtually no more sightings of killer clowns. It felt like the clowns just vanished, much like the original choreography to this ballet vanishing due to conspirations following the inital run in Paris and a subsequent run in London. The original choreography wasn't immitated to a high enough degree to put back on the stage until the 1980s.
This piece is reminicent of the Killer Clown craze that followed over 100 years later; out of nowhere, terrifying, cacophonous, and attention gripping.

WEEK 7: THE CLOWNERY
The Clown Beecake
Beecake was formed in 2006 by Billy Boyd, Rick Martin and Billy Johnston. Although they’d been playing, both together and separately, in many musical projects – the three friends really only found our voice when they put together the band. The band was conceived as a purely studio based project to experiment with songwriting and recording but the guys soon realized they really loved playing these new songs together and got excited about playing them live.
Despite not giving us the usual "creepy" vibe, this song captures the darkness by its slow yet mysterious build-up, which eventually... gives us the creepy vibe to some extent? In the music video, we see the band, dressed as clowns, rowing a boat in an empty lake. It seems like they've collected all the things they find valuable, meaning they are leaving the place for good. One detail that caught my attention was that none of the characters in the video are truly happy, just pretending to be happy to the outside, which feels weird because clowns are normally people that entertain people around them with their cheerful and caring nature, like the guy with the red nose and oversize polka dotted tie? Yet, here, they seem depressed, given up, and just continuing on with their boring and worthless life. Accompanied with a slow and steady accordion rhythm, they express their true personality by becoming clowns: using their usual "happiness" mask to hide their dark past, and possibly the present.
Give it up you know just what you’ve got It’s pulling you down to that hole in the ground It fills you with fear, It’s all that you hear As the night takes away, say goodbye to the day that you’ve lost
And finally, in the end, the boat that I've interpreted to be a gateway to loneliness actually sinks deep into the lake, which confuses me for a bit, yet I understand. "The sad sad tears of a clown." echoes at the back of my head. Their mask is finally washed off by the water and their true identity is revealed, but there is no place for them on earth. All those things they have heard in the past, all those things that influenced them to become what their current sad self, results in perhaps a peaceful closure for them. This creepy masterpiece ends with a final shot with the empty water, the water that sucked in all three of the clowns who wanted to escape. At least, the most important objects of the clowns are secured with them.
LYRICS
This Ancient Rot Makes you hold what you’ve got Makes you hold on tight … Makes you plan for the fight
But the sweetest sound When it all comes tumbling down Can you still sing along When you don’t know the song Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on
(Chorus) Give it up you know just what you’ve got It’s pulling you down to that hole in the ground It fills you with fear, It’s all that you hear As the night takes away, say goodbye to the day that you’ve lost
When you can’t find your feet Taste the Honey, still as sweet But you won’t take a hand You’d rather crash than have help land
And you’re strong as a Bear But you weep when nobody’s there You see you’re not in control Smile and Hope Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on
(Chorus) x4 Give it up you know just what you’ve got It’s pulling you down to that hole in the ground It fills you with fear, It’s all that you hear As the night takes away, say goodbye to the day that you’ve lost
Choosing the love over fear Knowing the truth is so near Cheer Up!… Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold

WEEK 7: THE CLOWNERY
Do U Like Me Now? Dana Dentata
For this week, I decided to send the Canadian-born artist Dana Dentata with her new 2020 single "Do U Like Me Now?". Initially I had a different idea in mind of what I wanted to do this week, but I decided to take a risk with an interpretation that's a bit unusual for this theme.
While taking a look at the lyrics, we can see that the song delves into a topic that sadly many women are all too familiar with, that of the sexual assault. From my point of view, it portrays how women might be feeling when treated badly by m*n. They don't get treated like actual human beings, but like "clowns". In addition, this is also supported by the single cover which depicts the singer having half of her face painted like a clown.
<<Too drunk to say no, it must have been a dream I'll just go away without making a scene Paint my face for you like a fucking clown No matter what you sayin', dude, I'm down, do you like me now?>>
Finally, I think that the instrumental and the general aggressive and loud vibe of the song, give it exactly the creepiness that is asked and needed for this challenge.
Lyrics:
Tell me that I'm batshit, yeah, I know what trash is Baby lookin' at you batting fake eyelashes While you're out wildin', committing all the violence I'll sit here and I'll stay silent Too drunk to say no, it must have been a dream I'll just go away without making a scene Paint my face for you like a fucking clown No matter what you sayin', dude, I'm down, do you like me now? Do you like me now? Do you like me now?
Ass shots, boob job, titties out I stick needles in my mouth, do you like me now? Don't say shit, don't ever snitch Nice as fuck and I'm never a bitch Do you like me now? Do you like me now? Do you? Do you?
If you say that bitch is psycho Onе more time then I'll go Michaеl Didn't plan for this, didn't come prepared Over a bitch you're fucking scared? I'm just tryna give you what you're asking for Give you what you want when you lock the door No one gives a shit about you anymore You're just another body on my floor Do you like me now? Do you like me now?
Ass, boob job, titties out I stick needles in my mouth, do you like me now? Don't say shit, don't never snitch Nice as fuck and I'm never a bitch Do you like me now? Do you like me now, bitch? Do you like me now, bitch? Do you like me now, bitch? Do you like me now, bitch?
Ass shots, boob job, titties out I stick needles in my mouth, do you like me now? Don't say shit, don't never snitch Nice as fuck and I'm never a bitch
