WEEK 8: MONSTERS & MONSTERS
Yakeru Kawa (eng. Burning River) Onitsuka Chihiro 4:15+
This week, Miss Gonorrhea Diarrhoea assigned us different phobias. I was happy ironic i know to be given the phobia of Cherophobia. Cherophobia is described as "a phobia where a person has an irrational aversion to being happy". According to a pair of psycologists, Joshanloo & Weijers, noted that 4 reasons which one would aquire cherophobia are "(1) a belief that happiness will cause bad things to happen; (2) that happiness will cause you to become a bad person; (3) that expressing happiness is somehow bad for you and others; and (4) that pursuing happiness is bad for you and others". This fear is way more common in East Asia than anywhere else.
before y'all read me for sending another japanese song, heres what i have to say about that
"Yakegu Kawa" is one of two pre-released singles that were a part of Miyazakian singer Onitsuka Chihiro's most recent album, Hysteria. The song was first concieved back in September 2010, as Onitsuka was recovering from an assault in where her boyfriend of nearly a year, Komiya Yūsuke, punched her in between her eyes while she was sleeping. She then slapped Komiya in retaliation, and he became increasingly irate. In the fight that ensued, Onitsuka suffered multiple broken ribs, an orbital floor fracture, and a host of other injuries. Following the assault, she stated that she has a fear of men, and "as a woman, it's terrifying to think that I won't be able to fall in love again because of my fear, no matter how happy just being in love made me". This attack shattered her already broken psyche, as she had struggled with anxiety and depression prior to the assault. It took over a decade for her to come to terms with her fear and to release the song as a part of Hysteria, which follows her struggles with her mental health through songs she made in the decade following the assault. "You are always on the other side
Of the burning river in the setting sun
Unable to wait without looking away
I don't need a tomorrow like that
Just go away with your lies
I'm so terrified"
The song starts off with a simple solo piano melody, with Onitsuka's vocals over that piano. Pizzicato strings hop into the melody into the second verse, eventually turning into a string orchestra, with the melodies melding together like butter in a hot pan. A snare drum adds into a string solo, leading into a key change. The final chorus is has been described as "Onitsuka returning to her form", with her powerful vocals showing off her feelings better than the lyrics could in any other style. Finishing off the chorus, the solo piano comes back to the front, with some string augmentations finalizing the feelings she held within herself.
This piece shows Onitsuka's feelings about her abuse ruining her happiness and how she is scared of falling in love again because of the abuse she suffered a decade ago. She's burning the rivers she and her boyfriend once sailed because of the happy memories they had together haunting her memories. She's burning the rivers to wipe herself clean from the stain of the men that ruined her. She's burning the rivers as a way to show that her fear has consumed her and that she's done trying to be happy.

SHIVA KINDETT EPISODE 8 • Monsters & Monsters Neophobia
The Light ECKOES 2:08+
Neophobia: A tendency to dislike anything new; fear of novelty
<<< I’m just finding this broken road Nowhere to go >>>
I chose this song for its stunning melancholic feeling and lyrics. The subject the song is talking about is unable to open up to new things and cannot make important choices by themself as seen in "Show me the way, That I couldn't find on my own". They are instead stuck and unable to move forward in life, therefore they "wait". I think this a great indirect and subtle way to describe neophobia.
Lyrics
Open me into the light Give me direction tonight I wait, I wait Who’s there? Show me the way That I couldn't find on my own I’m just finding this broken road Nowhere to go
So I wait, I wait Lead me on the earth I wait , I wait.
Who’s there? Show me the way That I couldn't find on my own I’m just finding this broken road Nowhere to go
So I wait, I wait Lead me on the earth I wait , oh I wait. Lead me on the earth I wait , I wait.

WEEK 8: MONSTERS & MONSTERS
Panphobia Occult Bass
Of the different phobias presented to us, I was assigned Panphobia. Panphobia is defined as either "the fear of everything" or "a state of general anxiety" or "a persistent dread of an unknown evil". Wikipedia says there's not even a medical classification for it. These several meanings intertwine seamlessly as they all have the similarity of the individual being in constant fear. Paranoia is a state of mind that is similar to this.
This is a phobia I'm not very familiar with, so I had to stick to the meanings as best as I could. I was looking for a song that captured the essence of my assigned phobia, and then lo and behold, I found a track called "Panphobia." There were several other tracks of the same title, but I thought how this particular track sounded the best for what I was looking for. Right away, the track begins with a blood-curdling beat which gradually builds up to a chilling rhythm. Halfway through, the beat starts to pick up, faster and faster and faster, a representation of the constant state anxiety manifesting the fearful individual. I'm presenting you a phobia, and I'm giving you a song that represents my assigned phobia.

WEEK 8: MONSTERS & MONSTERS
Sulk TR/ST
For this week, I had the pleasure to assign different phobias to the remaining queens. I picked agoraphobia for myself because I felt like I had a strong connection to it.
Let's start with a basic definition of agoraphobia The song I chose is 'Sulk' by Canadian dark-wave artist TR/ST. I think some of you might be familiar with him from Fantasia Contest. The overall theme is self-loathing and longing for isolations from the others. I'm no stranger to those things.
Now, let's inspect the lyrics a bit more, shall we?
Fold your heels and skip the whys Honestly, I can't take tonight Here's living proof from my fingertips When you melt beside I know you're it
The protagonist is not feeling well and needs to vent his feelings out. The last line symbolizes empathy and understanding from the other person.
Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted scenes I pray to my sulk Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted means With fists to the ground Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted me I'm safe with my sulk
Here we can observe the wishes of the protagonist. A lot of people want to talk with him but he is very cautious about letting people too close. People want 'scenes' from him. People want emotions from him for whatever reasons they may have, maybe they want a quick gaggle and laugh at someone else's expenses? Now, what the fuck is a sulk? That's a big English word for me!
sulk (noun): a period of time when someone refuses to smile or be pleasant because they are angry about something
sulk (verb): be silent, morose, and bad-tempered out of annoyance or disappointment.
He finds himself in a bad situation. Surrounded by people, desperately wanting to escape. He prays down to his sulk. He finds that difficult hence the use of force - fists to the ground. He is safe when he is alone.
Now I fill up without weight of warmth
He doesn't feel good because he has no one, either willingly or not by his will.
More so, the song sounds like something you could hear at a rave. You are being surrounded by people. Drugs are getting popped left and right. You want to escape. This is not the place you should be at.
LYRICS
Fold your heels and skip the whys Honestly, I can't take tonight Here's living proof from my fingertips When you melt beside I know you're it
Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted scenes I pray to my sulk Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted means With fists to the ground Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted me I'm safe with my sulk Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted me
Now I fill up without weight of warmth
Moving your hips too literal Deem him high, he's bound to fall Heart and soul like I knew you would When you say "love" it sounds so good
Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted scenes I pray to my sulk Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted means With fists to the ground Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted me I'm safe with my sulk Everybody wanted calm, everybody wanted means
Now I fill up without weight of warmth It's not too (wrong) to let it low

WEEK 8: MONSTERS & MONSTERS
Bite The Hand boygenius
This week, I was assigned the fear Philophobia, by my dear sister Gonorrhea Diarrhoea I decided to represent this fear with the song "Bite The Hand" by boygenius, a supergroup formed in 2018 by American singers-songwriters Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. “Bite The Hand” is the opening track of boygenius' self-titled debut EP. While Lucy Dacus takes the lead, Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker provide backing vocals.
Philophobia is described as the fear of love or becoming emotionally connected with another person. In "Bite The Hand", the singer expresses her insecurities when it comes to loving another person. She thinks she can't love the other person the way that they want her to. I feel like you can definitely show signs of Philophobia when you are under the impression that you aren't enough for the other person and this is exactly what this song is describing in my opinion.
<<I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to>>
Once again, as suggested by the phrase "Bite the hand that feeds me", the singer thinks that she is going to hurt the other person which is what keeps her away from relationship and love.
<<I'll bite the hand that feeds me Bite the hand that feeds me Bite the hand Bite the hand Bite the hand that needs me Bite the hand that needs me>>
Finally, the feeling of fear can also be found in the following lines. This part sounds a lot like two lovers quarreling, with one asking a vague question and the other replying in the same vague way. The argument is settled when they realize they’re both afraid of loving each other.
<<Who do you think you are? Who do you think I am? What do you want to say? What do you think will change? Maybe I'm afraid of you Maybe I'm afraid of you>>
Lyrics:I can't hear you, you're too far away I can't see you, the light is in my face I can't touch you, I wouldn't if I could
I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to
Here's the best part, distilled for you But you want what I can't give to you Your hands are grabbing while my hands are tied
I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to
Who do you think you are? Who do you think I am? What do you want to say? What do you think will change? Maybe I'm afraid of you Maybe I'm afraid of you I'll bite the hand that feeds me Bite the hand that feeds me Bite the hand Bite the hand Bite the hand that needs me Bite the hand that needs me Bite the hand Bite the hand
I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to I can't love you how you want me to
I can't love you how you want me to

WEEK 8: MONSTERS & MONSTERS
szczelina marta bijan
For several decades, people have been disappearing in the mysterious Trybecz mountain range in Slovakia in the cold months. they just dissolve into thin air. according to most it is a mere legend, others say that in the mountains there is a passage among the trees - it may even be a small c-word, as thin as a hair - to worlds that we would rather not know exist.
"szczelina" is an altpop, mesmerizing piece about a place where time does not exist, and where silence can look through thousands of pairs of eyes. The lyrics refer to the novel of the same title by the Slovak writer Józef Karika.
I want to disappear I want to and find oneself, find oneself I want to disappear I want to and find yourselves, seek me
Claustrophobia is the irrational fear of confined spaces. People affected by claustrophobia will often go out of their way to avoid confined spaces, such as lifts, tunnels, tube trains and public toilets. But avoiding these places may reinforce the fear. The most common experience is a feeling or fear of losing control. We all move around in a protective bubble of "near space," more commonly known as "personal space." But not everyone's bubble is the same size. People who project their personal space too far beyond their bodies, or the norm of arm's reach, are more likely to experience claustrophobic fear. And this song, in my interpretation, focuses on the perceptual mechanisms of claustrophobic fear.
suddenly silence has moving eyes the eyes of silence eat up time, silent the heavy ceiling of the forest falls on me I feel fear deeper than I would like I come out of the vestibule of the body the night will come deaf and in silence I will know the chill and it was probably right who said that you can disappear in the forest, but me
Let's be real, claustrophobia was probably one of the most difficult phobias assigned this week. However, I tried my best to find a song that carried similar elements of it. When you listen to this song and watch the music video for the first time, you notice how she has this sense of being lost in the woods. Now, a forest isn't really a confined space, but the one feature of this forest is that, as Józef Karika (a Slovak experimental publicist and writer) says, is "a large accumulation of small, strange things in a small area". Meaning the main character is trapped between the trees and even if she is in an anxious state and in fear; she kind of appreciates the silence.
LYRICS (translated from Polish)
here silence has green eyes the sun does not look into the eyes of silence you can call her, sign the pact in silence play green at the end see what it prompts the night will be deaf and in silence you will know the cold and I think it was right who said that you can disappear in the forest, but me
ref. I want to disappear I want to and find oneself, find oneself I want to disappear I want to and find yourselves, seek me
