WEEK 9: YOU BETTER WORK BITCH!
Mannequin Factory Porcelain Black
For this week, we have the task to send a song in the industrial genre.
Industrial is a very broad term. Industrial in intself is a sub-genre of electronic music falling under the experimental category alongside other genres such as glitch.
I think it'd be fair to clear the waters and define industrial music. AllMusic (which is the largest music database) defines industrial music as the following: Of course, there is plenty of room for interpretations. Lots of derivative forms exist.
But without further ado, the song I'm presenting you is Mannequin Factory by Porcelain Black. The song is best described as industrial-pop - a fusion of pop music and industrial-metal. The sound is a continuation of her previous music released on MySpace under the name Porcelain & the Tramps. Her MySpace era is best described as industrial-rock, metalcore and emo. Her iconic raspy growls can be heard throughout the song. The song mixes industrial themes with conventional pop elements such as the earworming synths in the chorus. She is often described as the love child of Marilyn Manson and Britney Spears.
However, the song is not officialy released. It was intended for Porcelain's debut album, bearing the same name, released under RedOne's label. A lot of parallels between Porcelain and Lady Gaga were drawn, most notably describing Porcelain as an edgier manufactured version of Gaga.
RedOne did her dirty and leaked all of the recorded songs intended for the album resulting in her departure from the label and going independent. The long-anticipated album was never released. It's a shame because the recorded songs are really good. I recommend Naughty Naughty, Pretty Little Psycho, Swallow My Bullet, Fuck Like a Star if you're interested.
The lyrics of the song are the classic don't-give-a-fuck type of lyricism. She sings about wearing what she wants and how superficial society is.
It's sad because we would never see the return of Porcelain Black as she has turned into a hip-hop direction.
homegirl is kinda problematic on twitter and is a trump supporter but we don't talk about that THE MUSIC BOPS
LYRICS

WEEK 9: YOU BETTER WORK BITCH
Shoot UP the Amazon Warehouse (Untitled_0026) JOHNNASCUS 2:56+
The song itself starts in this vid at 1:07, so enjoy. Also, TW for shooting & suicide
This week, we were tasked with sending an industrial song. Miss AllMusic refers to this style as the "most abrasive and aggressive fusion of rock and electronic music" that was 'initially a blend of avant-garde electronics experiments (tape music, musique concrète, white noise, synthesizers, sequencers, etc.) and punk provocation.'" Additionally, "The first industrial artists experimented with noise and aesthetically controversial topics, musically and visually, such as fascism, sexual perversion, and the occult. Prominent industrial musicians include Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazazza, SPK, Boyd Rice, Cabaret Voltaire, and Z'EV."
"Shoot UP the Amazon Warehouse (Untitled_0026)" is a song created by Austin, Texas-based rapper JOHNNASCUS. The rapper is a part of the larger collective known as Spider Gang. No stranger to controversial topics, as one of his most popular songs, made with his collective member Lil Darkie, is deadass called "SOUND OF GRINDING A POLITICIAN’S SKULL INTO A FINE POWDER". Cheers I'll drink to that. JOHNNASCUS has been described as "a true chaos incarnate", with his style being all over the map, but completely crazy regardless. "I get depressed from pushing fucking boxes
I feel trapped in a box, bitch
My only option to be used up then thrown in the garbage
Disposable, like my income"
The song features a unique beat laced with a modified Amber Alert sound. This song was made to highlight the desperation which plague many people who have to work in dehumanizing jobs, including those at Amazon warehouses, with enviornments so miserable and dehumanizing that it makes people turn to violence. JOHNNASCUS has built his career alongside Spider Gang's trademark throwing away of musical rules, which is what industrial music sought to do at its inception. The song takes so many twists that I'll let the beats of this song speak for itself.
LYRICS
English
Hello John, welcome to work today at Amazon, how's it going? Wait what are you doing with that gun? Please don't sh- I'ma shoot up this motherfuckin' warehouse Then I'ma kill myself with a bullet to the mouth And my death won't be forgotten, I have planned this out Already sent a hitman to Jeff Bezos' house

I'ma shoot up this motherfuckin' warehouse Then I'ma kill myself with a bullet to the mouth I'ma shoot up this motherfuckin' warehouse Then I'ma kill myself with a bullet to the mouth

WEEK 9: YOU BETTER WORK BITCH!
OFF THE GRID Rein
The Stockholm based electro artist, producer and label owner REIN was kicking off her career in 2016 with her self-titled EP and following through with the "FREEDOOM" EP in 2017, were she collaborated with the death electro founder (Owl Vision). REIN has since amassed positive critical reception in her home country and got signed by Playground Music Scandinavia. Her unique sound and style led to two P3 Guld nominations (Swedish National Radio P3) in the categories "Newcomer of the Year" and "Dance of the Year" in 2017. Her hard-edged, explicitly anti-authoritarian, woman empowerment music has drawn influences from various styles, including old school EBM a la (Nitzer Ebb), electro house and techno.
"Throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony." – Morpheus, The Matrix
The machines pulse and buzz with tension. Rein straps into the producer’s chair, jacks into the Matrix, and engages with her whole being. “Off the Grid” is the first sign of the new sound that the Swedish hard dance warrior has been developing together with co-producer, Carli Löf. The power of the bass is inspired by the proto-balearic sequences of Nitzer Ebb, but the combination of rhythm and rebellion is uniquely Rein. As she breaks the chains that bind her, Rein emerges as herself; more authentic and more melodic. “Off the Grid” finds her waking up to the Matrix and engaging the machines. It is the sound of the red pill being swallowed.
When industrial music first started to gain popularity, it caught the attention of the public because of its never-seen-before qualities. More extreme than punk, industrial music revolted against the very ideas of order and reason: it sought to strip away the brainwashing that was identity itself. It aspired to provoke, bewilder, and roar with independence. The core of industrial, is that the basic sound is just noise, converted into a rhythmic pattern. Common elements are noisy samples, for example machine noise, instead of musical instruments. It becomes a matter of appreciating the esthetic value of this modified noise. It is music where the bulk of the average person would likely consider it extremely ugly. In 1983, Jon Savage was one of the first people to suggest elements embodied in industrial culture. He proposed five aspects that he considered purely industrial: organizational autonomy, access to information, the use of synthesizers (anti-music), extra-musical elements, and shock tactics. To me, this song exactly captures each of the indutrial elements described by Jon - ugly yet upbeat, shocking, and serves us a powerful message.
I'm connected Too blind to see That my freedom is denied They've tried to force me Into a mold Until I slowly suffocate The lie I've lived Held me controlled Time to disintegrate
LYRICS
Gotta get away Gotta get away Gotta get away, get off the grid Gotta get away Gotta get away Gotta get away, get off the grid I'm injected Where will I be? When my memories collide
I'm connected Too blind to see That my freedom is denied They've tried to force me Into a mold Until I slowly suffocate The lie I've lived Held me controlled Time to disintegrate
Gotta get away Gotta get away Gotta get away, get off the grid Gotta get away Gotta get away Gotta get away, get off the grid
There's a network Underground That is waiting to be found A pleasant life And a vicious lie Is it too tangled to untie
Gotta get away Gotta get away Gotta get away, get off the grid Gotta get away Gotta get away Gotta get away, get off the grid
Is there a better fate That isn't hollow? I gotta get away to seek the truth inside of me Yes, there are better ways Blue pills to swallow I gotta get away to be the one I was meant to be
Gotta get off the grid Gotta get off the grid Gotta get off the grid I gotta get away Gotta get off the grid Gotta get off the grid Gotta get off the grid
I gotta get away I gotta get away I gotta get away

SHIVA KINDETT EPISODE 9 • You better work, bitch!
Fleece Crystal Castles 1:41+
Industrial music is a genre of music that draws on harsh, transgressive or provocative sounds and themes.
<<< Freedom is honesty Freedom is hostility >>>
I chose "Fleece" by Crystal Castle for it is a perfect representation for the sub-genre of Electro-industrial. The harsh electronic sounds, distorted voices and sudden choruses just completely bang and the lyrics are representative of the Industrial theme aswell.
Lyrics
I lo-, I lo- I need your fabrication It's my pleasure to concede Shear the false expectancy Fueling their complacency I love your- I love your ambiguity Revise antiquity I love your- I love your ambiguity Revise antiquity Freedom is honesty Freedom is hostility Take her from her diocese Place her on the mantelpiece I love your- I love your ambiguity Revise antiquity I love your- I love your ambiguity Revise antiquity I love your ambiguity Revise antiquity I love your- I love your ambiguity Revise antiquity Place her on the mantelpiece Place her on the mantelpiece Place her on the mantelpiece Place her on the- Revise antiquity Revise antiquity

WEEK 9: YOU BETTER WORK BITCH!
Thrasher SASSY 009
Originally a trio comprising of Sunniva Lindgaard, Teodora Georgijevic and Johanna Scheie Orellana, who released their hypnotic debut EP ‘Do You Mind’ back in 2017, Sassy 009 is now the solo project of Sunniva Lindgaard. One year ago, Sassy 009 shared her debut single ‘Thrasher’. In a bit less than three minutes, the artist is experimenting with so many textures and genres, sounding like if JPEGMAFIA, Smerz and Death Grips founded a supergroup
So what am I representing with this song?
► Industrial techno is a subgenre of techno and industrial dance music that originated in the 1990s. Characteristically, it incorporates influences from the bleak, noisy sound and aesthetics of early industrial music acts, particularly Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle. It is not to be mistaken with Techno Industrial, which is in essence similar to the power noise/rhythmic noise subgenre. The different terminology is used depending if one is coming from a techno perspective or industrial perspective, with Industrial Techno having more techno-inspired rhythmic section with many reverb and wall-of-noise or sci-fi effects, while Techno Industrial is closer to rhythmic noise in composition, with a distorted rhythmic section. ► Electronic body music (commonly abbreviated as EBM, also known as industrial dance music) is a genre of electronic music that combines elements of industrial music with dance music.
My fellow sisters already presented interesting representations of Industrial sub-genres such as Industrial Hip-Hop, Industrial Pop etc., so I decided to send a track that in my opinion (and from what I've read), is serving Industrial Techno/EBM flavour.
Lyrics:I thought I was lonely I did, I did Put my hands in the sand and all of me Will be gone By morning By morning
I'm flowing my tears out I'm flowing Leaning on the edge Freestyle (me-method)
I thought I was lonely (was-was) I did, I did You push my hands against the bottom Soakin' in
Don't you come any closer I'm about to go down Stick with it Push my button Float with me on the ground You got a reputation that's easy to kill I'm seeking for the bottom of this Natural skill Leaning on the edge Freestyle (freesty-style)
I'm about to go down, down (down down down) All of me I'm about to go down, down (down down down) You did, you did It's a trap, it's a trap (It's a trap, it's a trap) I thought I was lonely I did, I did
