Alright time for a serious comment of mine now. It's probably a mess and since it's long I put it into a spoiler.
Omg I almost freaked out yesterday night and got so happy I actually destroyed the glass mug standing in front of me on the floor lol.
Gjon achieved
Switzerland's best result in 30 years. I always knew that this was to go well, but absolutely didn't expect him to win the juries. Hearing "Switzerland 12 points" was an experience at its own as well (since that never happened since I'm watching the contest) and especially so many times.
When the reveal of the televoting began I had hopes it may end up with a win as some thought, but the doubts came over me as soon as several others had received 200 points. What made me laugh towards the end however was him just sitting there being like "Wtf is going on?" and appearing like "I don't care anymore." Let me tell you that evening was such an experience for me.
About the results:
Italy: Finally Italy won after that could have happened already 4x within the last 5 years lol. I didn't find the group's performance that special, but they deserved this. Personally I had doubts about this however, and particularly when "enemy"
Finland received 200 televoting points. If I may also say this: I know they probably had stuff to do, but it was so weird when they were all on their phones ...
Maybe we'll see a backup win incoming?
France: Barbara gave a really good vocal performance and you could totally see how much she was feeling her song. Generally a deserved runner up outcome. It looks so weird seeing
France in top 3 though. But congrats for a new best result in also 30 years to our neighbours as well. And I hope that they will be able to keep that up because I actually have the feeling
France is on the right way.
Lol we didn't just get 2 of the 6 Aqs top 2-ing and all the others bottom 4-ing.
Iceland: It was an entertaining performance and they deserved it. BTW. I just found out that this is
Iceland's third best result. 😱 If the group achieved
that with this song, then imagine what the much stronger Thinking about things would've done.
The only drop of bitterness is that they weren't able to attend the show in the arena, but at least it looks like they had fun gathered in their room. Also I love that
Iceland is usually a rather weak Eurovision country, but is now on to a top 10 streak.
The guy who gave the points was amazing btw. - unlike
Australia's with his champagne ...
Ukraine: Just like I wrote on Wednesday this was a really good staging and a really good vocal performance from Kateryna. Therefore
Ukraine deserved it's top 3 in the televoting - and I loved their reaction about 260+ points. To me that was a shock too because just like written on Saturday afternoon I hadn't expected Western Europe to like her singing style. Yet it's always been clear to me that this was going to be good, but haven't expected it to become a top 5.
Finland: Now that's a surprise.
I absolutely didn't see
Finland to get even on the left side let alone almost top 5. Not the biggest fan of both song and staging, but congrats for the first top 10 in 15 years. I also love that now the entire
Finnish top 3 is made of rock bands
Malta: Wow! Destiny was really good. Her staging may have been a bit too colourful, but she totally killed this.
Malta's usual issue is that the island has hardly any "voting friends" for the televoting so it was clear Destiny was never going to get another 200 points there, but 47 really hurt ... :/
Lithuania: I never really fell for this song, but 8th place seems about right. What bothers me the most here however is the fact that The Roop didn't get a new best result for
Lithuania so that we still have to live with the horrid 2006 one ...
Russia: I'm not a fan of that song at all, but seeing this getting top 10 makes me happy. And that's just for the lyrics and what Manizha has underwent in the past.
Greece: Positive charisma and a good vocal performance. I imagine especially the high note in "dance" to be really hard to hit and she did it several times. The full staging is rather discussable, but thanks to her singing Stefania imo deserved her top 10. Also congrats to
Greece for returning there are 8 years.
A very few "honourable mentions":
Sweden: 14th place was about okay for this song. However looking at the redults of the last few
Swedish songs this is underrated. It was so weird warching a Eurovision voting and not hearing 1'000 times "12 points to Sweden".
Serbia: Yeah, they got where and what I thought them to. Getting the
from the countries that are always doing so and basically nothing from everyone else.
Speaking of the televoting only ofc.
Albania: Wow and I thought this would get
Albania another one of its 16th / 17th ranks, but apparently not.
San Marino: I just love that we all were expecting a possible top 10 and said stuff like "Yeah this will surely get a new best result for the country." And then it didn't even beat the 2019 result.
The televoting sequence this year was the absolutely most exciting one since it's introduction in 2016. I particularly loved how everyone was applauding each other. And the reactions to the
were really cute - especially
the UK. And
Germany was hilarious.
The show itself was good although I didn't quite get the opening. Afrojack's interval act was amazing and I actually felt that little love story.
The previous winners was a disappointment to me though. And the countdown shown by the dancers was an amazing idea. How did no one else ever come up with that idea?
And finally I would like to point out that it's amazing seeing for once the non-English songs dominating (4 / 5 of the top 5) and the top 7 were so owned by the Western countries. Both feel so weird when a) in the middle of the last decade (until
Portugal won) everyone (including even
Spain,
Israel and
Serbia) sang in English (Peak: 2015 / 2016) and b) in the 2000s they were literally invincible. E. g. remember 2008 when
Norway was the only one in top 10?.
Btw. I just found this link where all the jury members are shown:
