ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE RESULTS OF SEMI-FINAL 1

YLE’s Board of Directors and the directors responsible for Pohjoisviisut and Finland’s participation in North Vision Song Contest gathered this week to discuss the criticism YLE got due to the results of semi-final 1. Viewers complained that they couldn’t vote Hard to Love and that the voting time wasn’t long enough.

Even though voting procedures went according to the plan and no faults were detected, the votes given in the semi-final 1 were the lowest in the history of Pohjoisviisut. Thus, it is possible that Hard to Love, which was seen as a pre-favorite by the public could’ve got a disadvantage in the voting process.

After careful consideration, YLE and the team behind Pohjoisviisut have decided the following:

• Robin Packalen and Alex Mattson will be given a chance to compete in the Grand Final. This is due to the public's outrage and for the lower voting figures that could’ve given the pre-favorites a disadvantage.
• No one will lose their spot due to the decision, meaning the final will have 11 entries instead of 10.
• Pohjoisviisut will otherwise continue normally and YLE will learn from this mistake to make sure situations like this will never happen again.
