SUDAN ARCHIVES
The Cincinnati born and raised electronic r&b singer and violinist will represent the state in the upcoming contest. Since playing violin from fourth grade, she is now a critically acclaimed artist, creating two albums, Athena (2019) and Natural Brown Prom Queen (2022), which will be released this September. "SELFISH SOUL" 1:35+
The second single from her upcoming album, Natural Brown Prom Queen (2022), which discusses the relationship between Black women and their hair, due to the societal assumptions and ideals associated with it. She was also inspired by India Arie's 2005 Motown hit, "I Am Not My Hair" and wanted to present a diversity of hairstyles in the music video, challenging the dominant Eurocentric ideals surrounding hair.
If I cut my hair, hope I grow it long Back long back time like way before If I wear it straight will they like me more? Like those girls on front covers
Long hair make 'em stay little longer Stay hair, stay straight though we feel ashamed By the curls waves and natural things Curls waves and natural things Okay, one time if I grow it long Am I good enough, am I good enough? About time I embrace myself and soul Time I feed my selfish soul
It's been so long since I had a sew in With a frontal and some color If I cut it all off, will it even grow? It'll grow back real long Gotta prove them all wrong
I don't want no struggles, I don't want no fears I don't want no struggles, I don't want no fears I don't want no struggles, I don't want no Does it make sense to you Why I cut it off? Okay, one time if I grow it long Am I good enough, am I good enough? About time I embrace myself and soul Time I feed my selfish soul
Met a ***** last year, Jimmy Mac was his name And he told me that he wanna go and ride I was worried about the clip-ins in my hair coming out Couldn't even catch a vibe Hope he still loves me if he knows that this weave is getting old The extension that I had to offer He said, "Baby, don't you bother But when it's gone just don't act surprised"
'Cause I don't want no struggles, I don't want no fears I don't want no struggles, I don't want no fears I don't want no struggles, I don't want no Does it make sense to you Why I cut it off?
Okay, one time if I grow it long Am I good enough? Am I good enough? About time I embrace myself and soul Time I feed my selfish soul

MICHIGAN CONFIRMS & DROPS SONG Despite a disappointing nq of miss Siena Liggins and her Flowerbomb, Michigan confirmed to participate once again. With 3 of the 5 participants Michigan sent falling in the semi final, the state decided to adjust the state final for the contest. This led to MIVision 1 coming out. MIVision is one where every county in the state (with some being split up with certain cities getting their own song). After heats, a quarterfinal and a semi final, this led to a single final. This final would see one song crowned as the winning county and the song that will represent the state in [TBA]. The 12 counties in the final made up the jury, with the remaining states making up the televote. The points were tallied up Vidbir style. Tiebreaks were broken with the county with a higher score in the rest of MI vote. After several months, we are glad to unveil the results. Full splits will be posted in the wikia when I can be assed to do so.

She ran away from home at age fourteen and spent time in the foster care system before getting emancipated at seventeen. Growing up she felt immense pressure to act masculine, despite knowing early on that she identified as a woman. She was inspired to become a singer by Tina Turner and worked on her skills while directing her church choir, where she was often chastised for singing too high. At age 20 she robbed a convenience store at gunpoint to pay for gender affirmation surgery. Diamond was in and out of men's correctional facilities in Michigan between 1999 and 2009. It was in prison that she wrote her song "I Am Her." While incarcerated, Diamond faced discrimination specifically for her identity as a trans woman. She was kept in protective segregation and lost privileges often to keep her away from the male population. Humiliation, isolation, and misgendering were used as punishment. After watching a video of Diamond performing her song "I Am Her" a cappella at a Trans Lives Matter rally, pop songwriter Justin Tranter was so impressed by her honesty and raw vocal talent that they immediately got in contact with her and they began recording music together. Tranter went on to co-sign her to Asylum Records and executive produce and co-write her debut extended play Seen It All, released on June 29, 2018. In 2017, Diamond covered "I'd Love to Change the World" by the English rock band Ten Years After for the television miniseries When We Rise. In December 2018 Diamond joined the Human Rights Campaign's Equality Rocks campaign. In February 2019 she was nominated for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Artist. The same year her song "American Pie" was endorsed by 2020 United States presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and used in his campaign rallies. In June 2019 she was a headliner for the Washington, DC Capital Pride Concert. On June 7, 2019 Diamond released her single "Don't Shoot", a song that was described by Paper as containing "a message against America's ongoing gun violence epidemic while also being a reflection Diamond's experience as a Black trans woman who has been incarcerated and systemically discriminated against". Diamond's hand appeared on the original cover of Sam Smith's third studio album, back when it was known as To Die For. She also appears in the music video for their song "I'm Ready" with Demi Lovato. Diamond's song "I Am America" provides the theme song for the HBO series We're Here. The song was released as a single on April 23, 2020. "I Am America" was included on Billboard's list of the best LGBTQ songs of 2020. Also in 2020, she released the singles "Stand Up" and "So Lucky", and had two songs appear on the soundtrack to the Hulu original Christmas film Happiest Season.Shea marks a continuation of Michigan's showcase of the black LGBTQ community, with half of our songs being performed by members of the community (E3 with Tunde Olaniran [+Jax Anderson but they're white] and E5 with Siena Liggins). Her song "Don't Shoot" was written to highlight the gun violence epidemic in the United States. Despite the music video being unveiled in June of 2019, the message rings even more home now. In fact, Diamond initially was going to perform the song "I Am America", but when Patrick Lyoya was murdered by a Grand Rapids police officer, she decided that she would perform "Don't Shoot" as a tribute to Lyoya and the seemingly endless list of names of Black Americans murdered by the police. In an interview with PAPER Magazine, she said "These guns are registered to people, without a mental assessment. As a trans woman, before I have any type of surgery done, I get a whole mental evaluation for years before they even give me a hormone. They want to know if I'm sure and why I'm doing what I'm doing. Why don't we apply that same logic to gun owners? We already have officers with guns, why do civilians need them? Racists have them and are killing Black people every single day and are getting off. Because guess what? They are money. They are resources. And guess what? Black people are still marginalized. Black people are still demonized. So, until we can change that narrative, there need be no guns in these streets. Period. I want an assessment created. I want to know what that assessment was. I want to know if you're transphobic. I want to know if you're homophobic. I want to know if you are a rapist. That's what I have with "Don't Shoot." I want people to... because you know what is happening. People know what is being done to trans people, queer people, to people of color. Now, what are you gonna do to stop it?"
Having absolutely stormed through the competition, winning the heat for the Thumb of Michigan, quarterfinal 1, and placing second to Ontonagon county in semi 1, Shea Diamond, representing the city of Flint, is the winner of MIVision 1 and the official Michigander representative in OUSC 6. Let me hear you say "hey, we want to represent Maryland!"Baltimore, 24th July 2022
MPT, the state broadcaster for Maryland in the Own USAvision Song Contest, has revealed the entry that will represent the state in Minnesota.
The artists were very close to representing D.C. last edition, but they just fell short of the eventual winner of their NS, Ioanna Gika. Commenting on the choice, the HoD stated that:
The song in question was actually in another states' NS last time. However since one of the artists was raised in Maryland, we decided to give the song a second chance.
Rico Nasty is a singer that was born in D.C. but raised in Maryland to a mother from Puerto Rico and an African-American father, who is also a rapper and introduced her to rap music as a child. She has gained notable attention within the Baltimore music scene over the years, releasing her first song iCarly in 2016 and rose to prominence in 2018 with singles such as "Smack a Bitch" and "Poppin'".
Flo Milli is a rapper from Mobile, Alabama, who has been active since 2019. She is no stranger to the contest as she represented Alabama in the 4th edition of Own USAvision Song Contest with the song May I, ending 13th in the final.
They will perform the song Money in Minnesota.
Timeslot: 1:40- (could change)
Best of luck to our girls Rico Nasty and Flo Milli in Minnesota!

HAWAII After Bella Porch was announced as the next artist to represent the state, she later stated that she’s not eligible to participate due to a busy schedule. But she didn’t rule out a participation in the future if she gets a perfect song.
Therefore, the broadcaster which is very happy for achieving an AQ spot in the next edition has decided to send something risky to the contest.
Diana Wang will represent Hawaii together with Wang Lai and Khalil Fong. They will sing their song "Tomorrow". With this occasion, we’re also very excited to debut a new language, as the song is in Mandarin.
ts: 4:02Will this flop? Maybe. Do we care? Absolutely not. We’re just going camp.
