Welcome all to the jubilee edition of our national selection!

You are going to vote for the host song of Selection Song Contest 11 that will perform in

Miami!

As announced last edition, the theme of this edition was People's Choice, which means that other delegations had the right to make suggestions for this theme.

We received two suggestions from the Romanian and the Irish delegations, and we decided to mix them up.

The theme proposed by Romania was "Beyond the 1990s": the goal was to submit songs by artists who started their carrer in the 1990s and are still active today.

The theme proposed by Ireland was "female-led rock bands".

Before presenting the songs, let's describe how we made this selection. First of all, we decided to choose two songs related to the first theme, two other songs to the second one, and one to both.

We also wanted to obtain some homogeneity through the selection so even the songs that are not related to the rock theme have some rock influences. For the first theme, we selected quite known artists that are not very known for their recent work, so exit obvious choices like JLo... For similar reasons, since the songs from the first theme are not well known, well known bands or bands already used before were excluded from the selection.

We made two minor concessions to the first theme, by selecting an artist who started her career in 1988 (so not exactly in the 1990s) and be choosing another one who started her career in 1977 for the common theme (by lack of strictly eligible songs), considering that the spirit of the theme was not too much altered by picking even older artists.

Melissa Etheridge - As Cool As You Try

Melissa Etheridge is an American singer and activist. Her song accidentally has a connection with last American entry, since MUNA's frontsinger wanted to dance in a gay bar, and we have a lesbian artist singing in a gay bar with people dancing there... Melissa Etheridge got nominated for the Grammys for her first single released in 1988:

KT Tunstall - Private Eyes

KT Tunstall is a Scottish artist who moved to Los Angeles in 2013. The funny fact is that she already made it to my selection but released a brand new song, just in time to compete with it (this reminds me somethong...). She started her career in the mid-1990s but became famous only in the 2000s thanks to this song:

Now for the two songs of the rock theme:

Meg Myers ft. Luna Shadows and Carmen Vandenberg - HTIS (Hiding That I'm Sexual)

Meg Myers is a pop/rock singer born in Nashville and based in Los Angeles. She started her career in 2012.
Luna Shadows is also based in Los Angeles. She started her career in 2016 but released her first album only in 2021.

Carmen Vandenberg (the guitarist in this song) is British. She is known as an actress, a singer and a guitarist.

Queen Kwong - Fool's Gold

Queen Kwong is an indie rock band based in... Los Angeles (pretends to be surprised). The frontsinger Carré Kwong Callaway started her career in 2005 at the age of 17.

And finally, for the common song we have:

Roadcase Royale - Cover Each Other

It's so good to see that Nancy Wilson is still active. Before becoming member of Roadcase Royale, this guitarist was part of a legendary rock band, famous for this anthem released in 1977:
