日本は第40版を確認します。 Japan confirms its presence in the ABF! Shibuya-ku, Tōkyō-tō, 3 January 2023
Aimer performing in the ABF for Edition 30 in Hong Kong with her song “Brave Shine”
After Aimer placed 7th from the opening spot in the prior ABF, the joint Japanese broadcasters, NHK and Fuji TV have confirmed their intention to participate in the upcoming ABF. The broadcasters have selected their entry, and are ready to present it to you. The song will be revealed in the spoiler below.
"they told me this is it
what you see is what you get
there's nothing else here left for you
but when we dream at night
we go someplace
you feel it too" It's Cryalot for Japan Following Aimer's successful 7th place in the previous ABF - giving Japan our best result in the contest to date - the joint Japanese broadcasters NHK & Fuji TV have revealed their next hopeful for the upcoming jubilee edition held in Greece.
Sarah Midori Perry (セーラ緑・ペリー), better known by the stage name of Cryalot, is a hāfu Japanese-English DJ and Vocalist. Born on March 4th, 1991 in Nagoya and raised in Otaru, Hokkaido until she was 13, Cryalot is currently based in London, England. She is best known as the vocalist and face of the English band Kero Kero Bonito. The band is best known for their song "Flamingo". Despite this, Cryalot's solo work is of a much darker hue than the band's usual vibrant sound.
LyricsLaying in bed at 6 AM
Thinking the same thing all day (oh)
I drew a circle in the ground
Thinking the same thing all day (oh)
Wish we can find escape to some other place
Somewhere far away
The tunnels and chambers with blind alleyways
Underneath the palace lost in a maze
They both look the same, I won't go either way
So turn back before it's too late
It's too late
Trapped in a labyrinth, don't know where to begin
I can't fight this feeling away
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in this?
Do you know?
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in this?
Do you know?
Why dream?
Why dream?
Why dream?
Why dream?
Wish we could find escape to some other place
Somewhere far away
A witness on the land, saw a bird go by
Wooden frames caught in waves in the night
I open my eyes, I see nothing inside
Sometimes I stop and wonder why
Wonder why
Trapped in a labyrinth, all the walls are closing in
I can't fight this feeling away
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in this?
Do you know?
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in this?
Do you know?
Icarus rising
Nothing will stop him
So fly high to the light
Icarus rising
Nothing will stop him
So fly high to the light
They told me this is it
Watch you see is what you get
There's nothing else here left for you
But when we dream at night
We go someplace, you feel it too
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why-why-why- dream- only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in this?
Do you know?
Why do we dream if we only believe in
Why-why dream if we only believe in
Why do we dream if we only believe in this?
Do you know?

Thailand confirms! ประเทศไทยจะเข้าร่วมชิงตั๋วไปแข่งนอร์ทวิชั่นอีกครั้ง
Posted | Nakorn Ratchasima • 5 January 2023 |
On 5 January, the national broadcaster National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) lead by Kinoshita Poom Hisashi as the head of delegation, announced that the Southeast Asian nation of Thailand will make its appearance at the upcoming Associate Broadcasters Final. Since the thirty-seventh edition, Thai creative team has been invited by ERT to cooperate with the Greek delegation and to produce the two latest NorthSong series, which one of them ended up giving Greece the Northvision trophy. With the news of North Broadcasting Union giving an opportunity for an associate broadcaster to specially participate in the continent-wide contest, it is almost impossible for us to not try out. Thailand had participated in the Associate Broadcasters Final twice before, with Kratae Rsiam's Stay Cool and Violette Wautier's Smoke back then in correspondingly twentieth and thirtieth editions. Despite not doing so well in the actual competition, the two aforementioned artists are becoming big names here right now thanks to the fame gained from it. Now, we are ready to present you our next artist who we hope they will bring us to Greece in this winter. Please give a warm welcome for...
Helen Ganya
Helen Ganya, Thai representative for the third Associate Broadcasters Final
Helen Ganya Brown is a Scottish-Thai singer. She was born to a Thai mother and Scottish father. She spent her formative years in Singapore before returning to the UK, settling in Brighton. According to Ganya herself, her mother actually originated from the Northeastern part (Isan region) of the country, surprisingly like the current head of Thai broadcaster team's family. As a teenager, learning guitar and discovering GarageBand simultaneously became a gateway into songwriting. Ganja absorbed influences such as Sufjan Stevens, flagusflaguk Scott Walker, David Lynch, Clint Mansell and Brian Eno: brooding, immersive and filmic universes that helped transcend her ongoing sense of fragmented identity, of being mixed race. Elsewhere the songwriter explores her own background in Mirror, which sees her locked in an identity struggle as she ponders her Thai roots and differing perspectives of it. "The white man sees me Asian, the Asian sees me white". - said Ganya.
Approaching a new decade in age can bring with it a sort of existential search for meaning. As we grasp at reflections and try to draw a line into a new phase, expectations can be amplified, leaving us reeling in the wake of some unobtainable self. For Helen Ganya, entering her thirties made her question and pull away from the heteronormative social constructs that surround us. On her new album polish the machine, the Brighton-based songwriter stretches away from the suburban nightmare, seeking a cathartic reprieve that looks beyond the ordinary. “I was looking to the truth of removing any expectations that we’ve acquired along the way,” she said.
On 5 January, she was announced as the third Thai representative at the Associate Broadcasters Final organized by the North Broadcasting Union. Despite spending most of her time in Europe, Ganya stated that she is honestly pleasured to be trusted by her motherland to present them in such a big international stage. She might or might not take us to Europe, but she will definitely bring all of us, Europeans, Asians, Africans, Americans, Oceanians to her very own ...
“afterparty” Thailand in the Associate Broadcasters Final for NVSC 40
『 Produced by Helen Ganya Brown and Rob Flynn 』
Previously performing under the moniker Dog in the Snow, Ganya’s 2017 album Consume Me (Battle Worldwide) introduced a meticulous and elegant voice, while 2019 album Vanishing Lands (Bella Union) – inspired by the striking imagery in a period of vivid dreams – utilised swirling dream-pop and haunting post-punk to present an eerie, unflinching look at the often-nightmarish reality of the present world. polish the machine leans further into Ganya’s interiority, but refuses to succumb to despondency, instead pursuing a platform for community and tentative optimism. Here, the constraints of societal roles are loosened to encourage a different route: a wandering, ever-evolving path. “I’ve always slightly feared the ordinary,” Ganya explains. “It never really represented how I feel and how many people feel."
Elsewhere, Thailand's entry "afterparty" further advocates vulnerability, while brooding horns and a climactic sonic crescendo imitate the overwhelming feelings that often overtake us during those moments of in-between, of unknowing. "I envisioned this actual space of disappointment," she adds. "But I'm here, still hoping for something better and that thing should be to make my motherland proud in the international stage."
We wish every participant and our Ganya the best of luck. Ganya Susu! | National Broadcasting Services of Thailand • NBT Official representative Thai broadcaster for Northvision Song Contest |
